  • "The cottage is really comfortable and has everything you need for a short stay."

The locality has stunning views and lots of pubs, restaurants and places to visit. We used the cottage mainly as a base for walking, so many places to go. Although we didn't meet the owners they were helpful and readily available to answer any queries.

Thanks for your feedback Jane , we are glad you had a good time Property Owner

  • "This is my second stay at Rivendell, and yet again, it did not disappoint."

The cottage is lovely, welcoming, and clean with stunning views. The kitchen is big and very well equipped with lots of extras, including a coffee machine and coffee pods. I loved that both bedrooms have their own bathroom, with one being an on suite, which I absolutely loved. They are both spacious, and the beds are very comfortable. My favourite place to sit with a coffee in the morning was the snug just off the lounge. I felt very relaxed staying here and am already looking at dates later in the year to go back.

  • "Uncomfortable bed and poor quality bedding and pillows that had seen better days."

Ensuite had no door, the bathroom door at top of steep staircase but had to use for toilet privacy. Landing window had only a net curtain. No blinds or curtains on the entrance to the house so clear view of the kitchen. The access road was quite difficult which was not stated on the information on the website. Perhaps this letting is suited to walkers and hikers who are used to a more basic form of accommodation. On the plus side the kitchen was very well equipped (other than no oven mits). The field at the rear of the property was not suitable for walking the dog as too much dog fouling. Sorry to be so negative but that is how we found it. Hence the reason we cut short our stay and returned home after only 2 days. Generally a disappointing trip to Yorkshire.

Thank you for your Feed Back the bedding we have was only recently replaced with new shortly before your visit , however after your feed back we have replaced it again. We have never had a poor review before so we take your comments very seriously at the time you left early we were under the impression that you were leaving early because your message stated you wanted to get home before the weather got colder if we had known of your concerns at the time we would have done everything we could to make your stay more enjoyable. With regard to the en-suite in the main bedroom we have had several guests who prefer the layout as it is more accessible given the nature and age of the cottage and the photographs on the website clearly show how the main bedroom and en-suite are laid out, We have since inspected the path to the fishing lake at the rear of the property and the dog fouling does not seem to be an issue atm. However it is a right of way so we are not in control of that issue at all times, however we will inspect it weekly from now on to ensure people are picking it up. Thanks again for your feedback and we take your comments on board. Property Owner

  • "What a beautiful cottage!"

! It was immaculately clean, had all the "mod cons" and some stunning views. The kitchen has been well thought out with everything you could possibly wish for. Bedrooms were very comfortable and very clean. The "Snug" was a dream, a lovely place to read a book or just chill with a book and admire the wonderful view. I would not hesitate to book this cottage again in the future. Thank you to Andrew & Linda for such a wonderful stay.

  • "We could not fault this property."

It has everything that is needed for a very comfortable stay for two couples. The property was very clean and inviting with everything that you could possibly need for a holiday home. We found the welcome pack very useful, as we were ready for a cuppa when we arrived. As stated it is a 15 minute walk into the centre of Holmfirth where you will find plenty of lovely restaurants .We especially loved Harvey's. We also enjoyed the Last of the Summer Wine bus tour and found this excellent value for money.

  • "We found Rivendell a 'home from home', with a large fitted kitchen including fridge, freezer, dish washer, coffee maker etc."

and a cosy sitting room with television, gas 'log' fire and easy chairs - even a 'snug' for those who prefer to curl up with a book! Two double bedrooms, one with an en-suite and a bathroom with both bath and shower. The 'welcome pack' was very generously filled, and there were coffee and hot chocolate capsules for the coffee maker, fresh milk and tea available. The cottage is situated on a hillside with a wonderful view of the Holme Valley, and just 15 minutes walk to Holmfirth centre (alternatively, a bus-stop is nearby). A garden area and large parking space are on the other side of the road (adjacent to no.32). There are plenty of places to eat out in Holmfirth, and the White Horse at nearby Jackson Bridge serves wholesome meals from 4 o'clock, or from midday on Fridays and the weekend (it's closed on Mondays). All in all, Rivendell offers an ideal base to return to each day after exploring this fascinating and beautiful part of Yorkshire and we would thoroughly recommend it. James, Rose and Thomas

About the location

HOLMFIRTH

Peak District National Park 3 miles; Meltham 4 miles

The old traditional Pennine town of Holmfirth is situated in the heart of the beautiful Holme Valley, on the edge of the West Yorkshire Pennines. Made famous by The Last of The Summer Wine TV series, there is more to Holmfirth than Compo and Nora Batty’s stockings! The ‘Picturedrome’, the North of England’s finest live music venue attracts many famous bands and is located right in the centre of the town. The pelotons from the Tour de France 2014 and the Tour de Yorkshire have both been through this quaint Holme Valley town en route to the iconic 524 metre Holme Moss climb two miles away. It is in these hills where cycling’s triple Olympic Medalist Ed Clancy grew up. Holmfirth also has a good public swimming pool and fitness centre, parks and some super shops and restaurants. The people here are friendly, the streets are quaint and the scenery is breathtaking. The Peak District National Park with its moors, dales, forests, lakes and reservoirs is also easily accessible. The Upper Derwent Valley, home to the spectacular Ladybower and Derwent reservoirs, and where the famous 617 ‘Dambusters’ Squadron practiced the audacious bombing raid on the Ruhr valley in 1943, is only a short scenic drive away. Slightly further is Chatsworth, the stately home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire, and situated close to the market town of Bakewell, the home of Bakewell Puddings. The Yorkshire Sculpture Park, The National Coal Mining Museum, Wentworth Castle, and the Hepworth Gallery are also within short drives away and well worth a visit. For a spot of culture, Holmfirth has annual festivals with many more attractions that bring visitors back for more; such as the Folk, Arts, and Food & Drink Festivals. Also not to be missed, is Holmfirth Vineyard and Restaurant, where you can book wine tasting tours and enjoy a lovely meal in the restaurant.
