  • "Wheatlow Brooks Barn is a really surprising delight."

The Barn is a beautiful space, and the atmosphere is completely relaxing. We have stayed in many properties over the years, and this is definitely one of the best. We didn't have very good weather during our stay, but in the end it didn't matter as we enjoyed being in the Barn so much. Eliot was incredibly thoughtful and nice to chat to, and was brilliant with our ten-year old. He made some great suggestions for where we could visit locally, and we found the surrounding area is interesting, with easy access to good towns. We would really recommend this property to others!

Thank you Allison, Mark, and Molly, It was lovely to meet you all and a pleasure to have Molly learn some drumming during your stay. Thank you for your wonderful comments, I'm glad you had a good time despite the weather, the area has more to offer than first meets the eye so it's good you braved the floods and ventured out. The fire and candles gave out an amazing atmosphere. The gentleman who lit the fires in the morning and runs this this house is really friendly and helped us make the weekend just perfect, gift basket was a really nice touch, all in all we could not have been happier. Will defiantly come back :) thank you

Thanks folks, it was a pleasure meeting you and your wonderful little boy. So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for choosing the barn as your escape for a few nights. It would be lovely to have you back, it's beautiful here in spring and summer. Property Owner

  • "Having stayed in several wonderful Sykes cottages l can honestly say we found perfection at Wheatlow Brooks Barn."

From the warm welcome from Eliot ( he even drove my car in when l got stuck in the snow!) to the last evening everything was excellent. After arriving on a cold dark evening to walk into the barn and find not only a truly stunning lounge but a lovely fire burning brightly in the log burner was just so welcoming and appreciated. The barn is fabulous and the facilities are wonderful. Nothing is too much trouble for Eliot and Shirley who are simply the best hosts you could wish for. The barn is new to Sykes cottages and l can only see it getting busier and busier as word spreads. The owners have got eveything perfect and deserve to do well in their venture If you are looking for a secluded break in this area but still want to be near to all the amenities then look no further than Wheatlow Brooks Barn. I cannot recommend this holiday accomodation highly enough. We are already lookng to book again later in the year.

Hi Sue and thank you, I'm so glad you had a good time with us despite the snow and I see you've booked for next year already, so thanks again, it says a lot and is most appreciated. So, we'll look forward to your return visit and hopefully, your hubby can join you next time and enjoy the break as well. Eliot Property Owner

Everything was perfect and Elliot was on hand morning and evening to help with the log fires. We will be coming back next year. Would highly recommend staying here

  • "Arrived at 9pm on a dark wet cold November night."

Worried about finding it in the dark but Sat nav worked a treat. Expected barn to be cold and unwelcoming and for us to have to light the fire to heat it up. How wrong were we! The most wonderful surprise awaited when we pulled back the curtain to reveal the magnificent lounge area. Fire glowing. Toasty warm. Faux candles flickering as if real. So cosy and inviting. And even better than the pictures! Made a stressful day just melt away. Barn finished to high standard throughout. Plenty of room and all very tasteful. Could have done with a bit more kitchen equipment (eg, to cook a roast dinner, and also more wine glasses) but otherwise very well equipped. Eliot was very attentive - almost too attentive! Some guest instructions for the two log burners might make his life easier! Highly recommended! Will return!

Thank you for your lovely and honest comments I'm so glad you enjoyed your stay, albeit a brief and rather busy few days for you both on this occasion, perhaps you can enjoy a more relaxed visit next time....you'll have a roasting dish by then too, promise! Property Owner

  • "What an absolute delight, from start to finish, an absolute pleasure being there."

The property is first class, finished to a high standard but with personal traits that are wonderful. Seclusion and peace and quiet abound but not far from things to do....and there are plenty. The host was nothing short of brilliant, always there to help and advise if necessary. We arrived as strangers but felt we left as friends.......you can't say better than that! Would we return? In a heartbeat!! You may have tried the rest but you should now try the best! Well done Eliot, you should be very proud!

Hi Folks, thank you for the fantastic review and lovely comments i really do appreciate it. It was lovely to meet you both and uncanny we had so much in common to talk about and be able to direct you to a few places of interest while you were here. Hopefully, you'll stay again and we can catch up. Property Owner

  • "We were welcomed by Eliot and he was so friendly, gave us a quick tour."

It didn't end there, Eliot could not have looked after us any better - he made sure we were comfortable and warm throughout our stay. The Barn is absolutely gorgeous, very spacious and fitted out to the highest standard. We wanted for nothing and enjoyed our stay just chilling out. This is a new adventure for him but he must be very proud that he is doing all the right things to make this business a success. The Barn is very spacious even if there were four people. We would put this Barn equal to our top favourites and would recommend a quiet and peaceful stay here. We would love to experience a summer here and enjoy the outside courtyard - one to plan for the future! Give this Barn a chance you won't regret it, an excellent find for us! All the very best for the future Eliot you deserve every success.

Thanks ever so much to you both, Julie and Paul, it was an absolute pleasure having you stay and you're most welcome back at any time. I am so glad you both enjoyed your week away in the middle of nowhere and thank you for your lovely comments, it's early days for me but I'm learning more with every guest. I must also thank you for the wonderful chili you made for me too, i need that recipe, chocolate and all, absolutely yummy. Have a lovely Xmas you guys, see you in 2024 perhaps. Property Owner

  • "The barn is beautiful and the owner, Eliot is very attentive."

I have given 4 stars for our stay as there are some things that could do with a little improvement. The radiators are controlled by a coal stove in the dining area, which my partner tried to light but failed - there should be clear instructions on how to use this as the barn was very cold and we have 2 small children. We couldn’t use the dining area on the second night as it was far too cold. Given this, blankets in the lounge would have been useful.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm so sorry you found the place cold, I am always on hand to sort out these issues since I live on-site, for the sake of asking I could have saved you the inconvenience, it's something I always make all guests aware of upon arrival. I can only apologize if there has been a breakdown in communication. However, blankets are a very great idea so thank you for the heads up there. Property Owner

The barn is stunning and maintained to a high standard. It provides a welcoming cosy environment, surrounded by the country side but within short distance to surrounding towns. The host was very kind, thoughtful & attentive, ensuring we had everything we needed - as well as a little gift for our little one which she was very happy with! A perfect place for a family/ couple wanting a cosy peaceful retreat.

The owners live next door and could not be more helpful and welcoming. The price is very reasonable for what is on offer. Would highly recommend this to anyone. Although it is in a lovely secluded area it is also near a lot of attractions. (Alton Towers is only a short drive away). Brilliant.

Thank you folks, I'm so glad you had a good time with us, and i think you landed the best week of British weather for 2023, a huge boost to your stay im sure. Good to hear you found plenty to do for a whole week too, there's actually more to do than first meets the eye. Property Owner

The only sounds were from birds and other than the owners we didn't see anyone else nearby. The cottage was furnished beautifully, filled with the owner's handmade furniture and items and the stove was a warm welcome after a rainy day that dried our clothes quickly. The lovely owners couldn't do enough to make us feel at home and also shared their local knowledge of the surrounding footpaths and local attractions e.g. Alton Towers, Dovedale, many National Trust places and pottery places. We would definitely love to visit again. A hidden gem.
