A lovely unspoilt hamlet, Moneystone is an ideal base for the Churnet Valley and Staffordshire Moorlands or as a year-round destination to explore the Peak District National Park just to the north. Hills and valleys surround the hamlet and it is possible to walk for miles without crossing any roads. Moneystone overlooks the Churnet Valley in the heart of the Staffordshire Moorlands, at the south end of the Peak District. The area is a delight for walkers and cyclists, including two former railway routes: the 'Manifold Trail' following the route of the old Leek-to-Manifold Light Railway and the picturesque ‘Oakamoor to Denstone Greenway’. Nearby are Oakamoor, Ipstones, Ilam, good pubs and village shops, whilst further afield are the market towns of Ashbourne and Leek and of course Alton Towers theme park, just 3 miles away.

We loved the cottage - the location was beautiful. It was bigger than we were expecting and we had plenty of room. The kitchen was very well equipped and we very much enjoyed the open fire in the lounge.

We all had a really lovely holiday. The cottage was perfect, very comfortable. I haven't slept so well for ages. Our hosts were very kind and helpful in suggesting places to visit. They have thought of everything to make Barks Cottage a great place to stay and we shall certainly be booking up again to stay there next year.
