Barlow is a pretty village situated on the edge of the Peak District National Park. An old mining village on the River Derwent dating back to the Domesday Book, it now boasts three pubs and a church. The village is situated in a rural location, surrounded by undulating countryside with deep valleys and high moors and is convenient for exploring the attractions of the Peak District. There are many stately homes to visit including Chatsworth House, and its 1000-acre estate, magnificent gardens, farm and craft shop, children’s farmyard, play area and restaurant, and also nearby are Haddon Hall and Hardwick Hall. The historic market town of Chesterfield, with its famous 14th century church with a crooked spire, along with the lively city of Sheffield, are both within a short drive, as are the amenities of Matlock and Bakewell, or the opera at Buxton. An ideal location whatever the time of year.
