"Just had a great stay at this cottage."

Very comfortable beds. Good kitchen with great sharp knives and good utensils. Great sitting area with super views of the sea. Excellent facilities. Star gazed from outside deck on the clear night we had. Good situation for sea walks and access to the village. Some nice shops to look in Friendly welcoming pub and hotel bar. Great cottage, great hosts great stay

"23 Seaside Place lived up to, and even exceeded, all of our expectations."

Sykes info indicated that the views from the property would be very attractive. We were not disappointed. The sun rising over the Forth (7.15ish at the beginning of October) was spectacular and replaced our alarm clock. In the evening, we enjoyed the distant lights of Edinburgh. The place was sparklingly clean and very easy to maintain so. The beds were comfortable and the whole home was cosy (no draughts). The kitchen equipment was in very good working order, some of it appearing virtually new. Anne had ensured we had the usual essentials and even left a very generous welcome pack. Parking at the property is on the road but we never had a problem parking directly outside number 23 (an unspoken agreement between neighbours?) Aberdour is a pretty village with its own castle (a worthwhile visit), free parking at the Station and some interesting independent shops (we particularly liked the Deli). We preferred to eat at home (mostly) but were particularly impressed with the willingness of the Bistro, in the main street, to cater for those with special dietary needs. We would highly recommend this property - all positives, no negatives. Many thanks for making it available, Anne. So many places of interest and good walks are easily accessed from Aberdour.

The historic coastal village of Aberdour sits across the Firth of Forth from Edinburgh with its main street just inland and connected by narrow lanes to the coastal part of the village. Originally built up around the harbour where the Dour Burn runs into the River Forth, the village was essentially in fact two: Wester Aberdour and Easter Aberdour, however the connection was made with the coming of the railway at the end of the 19th century. What remains of Aberdour Castle is one of the oldest surviving stone castles in Scotland dating from the 12th century. Much added to over the centuries by the Douglases, the site is now managed by Historic Scotland and visitors can enjoy the walled garden and terraces and the distinctive beehive shaped dovecot. Known by the Victorians as the Fife Riviera, the secluded Silver Sands and Black Sands beaches have always been favourites and remain so to this day. The village holds a popular annual festival in late July and early August, including cultural and musical highlights, as well as a regatta and a run. With many lovely walks and a golf course, as well as excellent train links to both Edinburgh and further north into Fife, Aberdour remains an attractive and excellently located getaway destination.
