  • "This is an excellent property, comfortable and very well equipped."

    The owner personally made sure that we had everything we needed and had also provided some little extras in the form of fresh milk, eggs and welsh cakes. We enjoyed our stay here very much and would stay here again.

  • "Lovely very clean comfortable cottage on quiet caravan park."

    10 minute walk to pub and shop with Harlech centre close by. Easy access to various beaches. Barmouth a 20 minute drive away. All in all a very relaxing week away. Will definitely be going back. Would not hesitate to recommend this property.

  • "This cottage was everything as described."

    Cosy and warm (has central heating but we had no need to use it. Finding milk,tea bags and coffee there on our arrival was brilliant. The Welsh cakes also went down well with the cuppa. Only thing missing was some oven gloves. Brilliant stay will be booking again. Have also recommend the cottage to friends.

  • "Very lovely stay at Tan Llech."

    Chris was brilliant and text us before we arrived with lots of helpful information and was also super helpful in getting the WiFi to work. Thank you. It was super clean and comfortable and a short walk from the train station, which was perfect as we arrived by train and spent the weekend exploring the beautiful area by train. It’s also at the bottom of the world’s steepest street which we were relieved about! We did climb it but without our bags and visited Y Groser at the top to get a very nice tea and other Welsh food goodies. There is also a shop opposite the train station if you don’t fancy climbing up the world’s steepest street. The only additions to the cottage we would suggest would be a cafeteria and a dust pan and brush (both very minor). We would definitely return for another visit. Thank you.

  • "Property was lovely just missing a washing machine, hoover and sweeping brush but overall really nice"

  • "The cottage was absolutely superb."

    It was spotlessly clean with brand new appliances and lovely shower. It is in a great location and lovely and warm. I personally could not fault the cottage and providing us with milk, eggs and welsh cakes was a lovely and unexpected surprise and a great touch. I would recommend this cottage to friends/family.

  • "We really enjoyed our week's stay in Tan Lech, this gorgeous newly-built cottage, though it would have been helpful if the name had actually been on the cottage, as there are two cottages adjoining each other and it was slightly confusing on arrival (I believe the owners are going to do this soon!"

    ). The cottage is tastefully and comfortably decorated. The double bed was very comfortable. There were two single beds in a second bedroom (we did not use this room), which was small but with plenty of room to move. There was plenty of wardrobe space in the double bedroom and a hanging rail and chest of drawers in the smaller bedroom. The kitchen was well equipped and the sofa and armchair were comfortable. There is plenty of space for two cars right next to the cottage. The cottage is actually in a small caravan park and I might not have booked if I had known that in advance, but in fact it was really gorgeous, peaceful surroundings with greenery and a small waterfall, situated just behind Harlech railway station and right underneath the cliff with Harlech Castle on top. The site is privately owned, and we were visited on our first day by one of the owners to check that everything was ok, and another of the owners was on-site another day. They were friendly and contactable if needed (we didn't need them). There is a very attractive garden area right outside the cottage, with table/chairs and a parasol. Right next to the caravan park is 'the world's steepest street', although apparently there is some argument with a street in New Zealand about which is actually the steepest! This street leads up to Harlech town centre, which is not that big. There is another street just a little way along leading up to the top, which was itself pretty steep, but easier to walk up to the top. We walked down the steepest hill, which certainly was steep. I would not attempt to drive up or down it, though it must be possible as there are houses on the way with cars there. Harlech itself is a very small town, up the hill above main road level. Having strolled round it for an hour or so, we felt that we had 'done' Harlech. There was a smart deli selling really nice ready-meals if you’re self-catering, as well as a selection of ordinary grocery goods and some delicious looking deli cheeses, meats, etc. The castle is worth a wander around, though apart from some display boards with some history and information, it's basically the remains of a castle. The visitor centre and cafe are even more worth a look - the food in the cafe was fabulous, with a big terrace to sit on overlooking the wonderful view. There is a beach in Harlech, but it was about a half mile walk along a quiet road nearby and we never actually got there. We visited Harlech and the surrounding areas in mid-September 2023. Harlech is very peaceful, and it's quite a good location from which to drive to other local sites. The hills and valleys covered with grass and forests are wild and beautiful, and the remains of the slate mines are fascinating. We drove to the Lakeside Café at Blaenau Ffestiniog (follow the signs for the Power Station!), where we had a great cooked breakfast. Then we drove up a track to a small car park and walked along a trail that took us up past a rushing river and waterfalls, to a lake at the top and the remains of some slate workers’ cottages. Amazing scenery, and very atmospheric, especially on the cloudy day we were there. We visited Portmeirion, which was quirky and brilliant. A day out there is fun. You can walk around the resort, as well as stroll through the surrounding woodland and paths - we did a short, fairly easy half hour stroll. The food in the restaurant/café is excellent. You can also walk alongside the wide estuary at the bottom of the village, which looks like a massive sandy beach. The tide was out while we were there, but they do warn you not to get caught by the incoming tide. We also parked our car in the Nant Mor National Trust car park, then walked/clambered along the rocks alongside the river, ending up in Beddgelert. This was a pretty village, with cafes, shops, and the river running through it. The river walk took about 1.5 hours, probably best done with some hefty trainers or proper walking boots and not flip-flops, but it is certainly manageable for most fit people. Definitely not wheelchair accessible! We then found Bedgellert railway station, where we were lucky enough to arrive in time to catch the train back just one station to Nant Mor for a £5 single ticket, which enabled us to enjoy the train ride and the scenery without paying for a rather pricey ticket for the whole Welsh Highland Railway route. Another larger, interesting town was Porthmadog, with plenty of shops, surrounding fantastic scenery, and the heritage railway running right through it. A good spot to take photos of the old steam trains.

  • "This was an amazing cottage!"

    It had everything we needed for our family break, it was like home from home! We were soo touched by the gesture of milk, eggs and welsh cakes together with tea coffee and sugar left by the owner a lovely touch! Also soo grateful that there was a hairdryer as I forgot mine…… life saver! The owner Chris met us when we arrived and was very helpful giving advice on local places to eat! Would highly recommend this cottage to anyone!
