  • "A lovely cottage for our annual stay in Newport, in a beautiful setting with amazing views and a fantastic garden."

The home is comfortable and nicely laid out, with a great power shower and wood burners in the kitchen and sitting room and a generous supply of wood. We were very comfortable as a family of 7 with a dog - although the property would benefit from a second toilet. It's a great base, with Newport's pubs and shops a 10-minute walk away, the beach a 15-20 minute walk away, and we enjoyed a 40-minute trek up to Carn Ingli from the cottage. The owner's instruction manual is very helpful and welcoming, and there are lovely touches throughout. Overall the property is well stocked, however there is an insufficient amount of cutlery for a family of 7 (only 7 knives and 8 forks!) - which was odd and frustrating! We made use of the air dryer in the house as we were unable to put up the washing line in the garden (there is not a suitable hole for doing so) and the extractor in the bathroom did not work - so a little attention is needed in places to ensure everything works as intended, especially as the bathroom gets very damp and there is no tumble dryer. However, these are small frustrations in what was otherwise a very enjoyable stay.

  • "This was one of the best cottages we've ever visited."

The location was stunning, with beautiful beaches and cliff walks every day. The mountain walks straight from the back gate were a highlight, especially early in the morning, or at sunset with the sheep and wild horses. The cottage is really comfortable and cosy, lovely sofas, lots of room for a larger family to be together or find their own space, lush gardens.

  • "If you as property agent take such a huge cut in the price the actual person pays to stay over a high season time then at least you should have made sure that there was soap , hand towels and tea towels available to use ."

There were none of these things . We were happy to take bath towels but we would expect these basic items to be provided as they are in other holiday properties . Also there was no wood provided in the basket as mentioned in the listing . We were unsure as to how much wood to take for the wood burner . On the whole we love this house , it is not fussy and it has a great garden . It is light and friendly. , easy to use . It’s quiet . Good location . Great place for a family holiday by the sea .

  • "We loved our stay!"

We were a large group with my parents in their 70’s and 80’s, myself and husband, our children ages 13,11 & 7 and our dog and we all found it accessible, spacious and comfortable. The garden was beautiful and a big hit with the children and dog and the cosy cottage was just what we were looking for. The beautiful location was also fantastic,

  • "Beautiful house and garden."

Great location. Very high quality kitchen utensils. Could have done with a few more items of cutlery for six adults. One toilet and bathroom a bit limited for six adults but the reasonable rental price compensated. Feedback to Sykes - marketd as 7 only for recommending Sykes to others because of the way you dealt with our initial query on the discounted price. Not satisfactory. Otherwise the booking arrangements were good.

  • "This is our second visit, just as lovely as last year."

House is both cosy and spacious, unusual and very lovingly appointed. The garden is also beautiful as it is the walk from the back gate up to the Mountain. The only problem was that we struggled with quirky back door and front door keys, but Bob the owner came straight round and he’s on the case. Pembrokeshire is wonderful and there are lots more places to visit next time we come.

  • "Great great great."

All was ideal! It's important to note that if you're having baths to put the immersion heater on continuous (over ride the timer with the side switch of the timer, in the corner of the dining room on the boxed off bit) and leave it on until you've all been washed as you will run out of hot.

Hi Adam, Thanks so much for such great feedback - I’m so pleased you had such a good time. As it happens, there is a plumber in Rising Sun as I type, who is replacing the entire hot water and heating system - boiler and tank. So, if you ever come back you should be able to have more confidence that there will be enough hot water fir your bath! Property Owner

  • "We had a great stay at Rising Sun."

The cottage is in a great location, beautiful Newport is a short walk down the hill with its pubs, cafe's & lovely beach. Also, a real bonus was the path right out of the garden leading up to Mynydd Carningli. Also just a couple of miles away is Bluestone Brewing with a great little tap room & outdoor area to enjoy their hard work! The cottage itself was more than comfortable and the garden was brilliant for our dog. A few kitchen essentials would have been nice (e.g. salt, pepper etc) but no big deal as shops weren't far away. All in all, we had a great trip & would definitely return!

  • "We fell in love with the cottage from the first day."

It has been tastefully refurbished to suit the style of the house in warm and gentle colours. The garden is gorgeous with a fabulous range of mature plants and is more extensive than the pictures suggest. It was great to be able to walk directly from the garden onto a path leading to the mountain overlooking the valley. Rob, the owner phoned early on to check if everything was ok. We had a couple of lovely swims at Newport Sands and walks on the coastal path with glorious views. Newport itself is a delightful village and the people are friendly and welcoming. There is a lot to do and visit in the area but it’s also a great place to just chill out. The only problem we had was having to leave after only a week. We would definitely like to come again.

  • "Second time at this cottage."

Spacious and comfortable with every facility that would be reasonably expected - good internet speed. Great location and views, albeit necessarily up a steep walk uphill from Newport if you don't want to drive. Pleasant garden.

  • "Lovely stay at the Rising Sun."

Really comfortable, homely and attractive property in a great location and friendly helpful owners. Pembrokeshire is a beautiful part of Wales to explore and Newport was a great base to access the coastal walks which are stunning. Good local facilities and a lovely beach at Newport Sands. Highly recommend a stay at this property and location.

  • "Spacious, characterful cottage within walking distance from a charming village."

Lots of places to sit and spread out with a small conservatory and seat on the landing to catch any sun. Rustic garden (with naturalised pond) with a garden gate leading on to the mountain behind (about 45 minutes and a 200m climb). Need to park on the public road with just about enough room for two cars.

  • "We had been holding our breath since March, hoping that our February booking would not be negated by Covid-19 restrictions."

This was our second visit, so we knew that we really liked this place, for its facilities, location and homeliness. It somehow manages to be both compact and spacious where it matters. The place was well-prepared and covid-ready for us, and a great time was had by all. Bob, as usual, was very welcoming and helpful.
