Just show me Blairgowrie Cottages
The small market town of Blairgowrie is renowned for a number of things: berries, salmon fishing, golf, the Cateran Trail, a selection of Blairgowrie holiday cottages and the warmest hospitality. It's also an ideal base from which to discover the Southern Highlands, as well as East and Central Scotland.
First - the berries - one of Blairgowrie's nicknames is 'Berry Capital of the World' and, if you time your stay right, you'll find field after field of ripe, juicy fruits surrounding the town, with dozens of 'pick your own' signs and local farm shops showcasing mouth-watering fruit displays.
Next, sporting pastimes - Blairgowrie nestles alongside the River Ericht, a key tributary of the Tay, world famous for its salmon. No wonder enthusiasts flock here. The local angling association offers a decent stretch of river to visitors and the best time to come is in spring. The town's well-stocked tackle shops cater for every need.
From riverbank to fairway, Blairgowrie is home to one of Scotland's best inland golf clubs, offering three courses with 45 holes of play! Day visitors are warmly welcomed but do book in advance.
Enjoy walking? Magnificent scenery is on the doorstep and there's an excellent choice of way-marked paths. The highlight is the 64-mile circular Cateran Trail, which starts in Blairgowrie and traces the footsteps of yesteryear's cattle rustlers along ancient drove routes.
Following a day's adventure, home-cooked fare washed down with a wee dram and traditional Ceilidh music await, not forgetting your Blairgowrie cottage for a good night's sleep.
