"The property is in a lovely quiet location which is an easy walk to the beach."
Great for dogs and the rear garden is enclosed.
The owners use a Nest thermostat which is preset to a maximum temperature of 21 degrees. We often felt cold in the evenings and the cottage in general felt damp when we arrived. This was a little disappointing as the listing stated that fuel was included and not rationed. There is a log burner which you can use to increase the heat further.
Front and rear gardens have a lot of weeds and the outdoor furniture is shabby. When we arrived there was only one toilet roll which had nearly ran out but there was a welcome pack of bourbon biscuits.
To sum up, nice cottage but needs some reinvestment. Allow occupiers to control the heat level (even if that means increasing the cost)
We thank you for your feedback on your recent stay at Friars. All constructive comments can help us to improve the experience of staying at Friars.
The Nest thermostat is set to different temperatures throughout the seasons ,21c being the summer setting. The system also takes into consideration of temperatures outside. I am surprised that at times you felt cold in the evenings, as on a number of days/evenings the temperature being recorded inside the property was at 25C. You refer to being disappointed at the listing referring to "fuel was included and not rationed." For your reference this is what is stated in the listing “Fuel, power, and starter pack for wood burning stove (available October to April) inc. in rent”. Friars has several Velux roof windows, a very efficient wood burning stove, which all help to heat the cottage. To say it was cold and damp concerns us. We know from experience that when the wood burner is on, and the bedroom doors are left ajar it will heat all the way through the cottage.
We were at the house on Friday 6th Sept 2024 it was a warm sunny day ,so we opened all the windows and doors to give the house a good airing. We always check for damp etc and there was none on that day. We also weeded the front and rear garden and cut back grasses and bushes on the stairs at the back. The grass had also been mowed. The furniture at the front and rear patio area are all well maintained and either painted or stained at the beginning of the season. There is one chair out of the six at the front that needs repairing. This we know and arrangements have been made.
We raised the point of the welcome pack and toilet rolls with our housekeeper who herself was on holiday that weekend. We are assured that there was plenty of Tea, Coffee, and Tassimo Coffee pods for the Tassimo Coffee Machine plus large toilet rolls in each bath / shower room left by her staff.
To sum up if any of these points had been raised with either Menai Holidays or ourselves at the time, we are quite confident that the need for you to give this feedback would not have been necessary, and your stay at Friars would have been more to your liking.

"No welcome pack!"
Front door difficult as mentioned by others side gate into garden impossible to open without a lot of force rear garden could do with a little tiding up .Electric went off and after talking to owners there were no torch’s as mentioned in bedroom draws as backup and no replacement batteries for lantern that’s not their fault but needed mentioning skylight in hallway still leaking as mentioned by others theses are just niggles and didn’t spoil our enjoyment if visiting valley again would difficulty consider returning overall a very pleasant experience thanks
many thanks for your feedback, we value all good and bad( tho fortunately not so many bad ones). Yes the small leak is a bug bare as previously explained the back part of the roof was damaged in the storms earlier in the year. We managed to have the roof repaired and re slated in May. Unfortunately due to a busy summer with guests back to back, our roofer has been unable to address this problem. The side gate does become stiff when wet, with damp weather is swells which restricts the movement of the door our handyman is to take a look in October. Every bedroom had torches in the draws they seem to go missing by Mr Nobody. The lantern is being replaced. We are fortunate that at both the front and back of Friars the street lighting is very efficient and gives off good light. This was one thing highlighted on the risk assessment.
Friars is a very popular and restricts maintenance that we dearly would like to stay on top of throughout the season. We ourselves would not appreciate men working whilst holidaying, and we dont expect our guests to be inhibited in anyway. The time at Friars is special and to be enjoyed.
Many thanks for your comments and we hope to see you soon.

"Friars was a great holiday cottage for our party of five to attend a family celebration nearby."
It was comfortable and well equipped. The back garden has been well planned and is a sun trap. Inside the cottage there was plenty of space for all, good appliances etc. Very helpful owner too. Would not hesitate to recommend this cottage.
Many thanks for your feedback Sarah. Your welcome anytime do not leave it to long before a re visit.
Take care and enjoy life.

"Had an absolutely amazing stay at this lovely property, so beautifully furnished & comfortable ~ we had a lovely time."
The garden was gorgeous too. However even though there is a warning about the neighbour’s honey bees, we didn’t expect them to swarm one day! They swarmed all over the garden, over the house, to the front of the house ~ we couldn’t risk leaving the house until they settled back down & we didn’t want to sit out in the garden after that!
Despite this however we will be back.
I am so grateful to the owners for sharing their lovely house. Thank you.
We were at Friars the week before and there was no sign of the Honey Bees. Maybe a swarm from elsewhere. Anyway pleased you were ok and carried on your holiday. Bees are such an important part of nature and our environment. Very necessary I am sure you would agree
Thanks for the head up we will investigate further

"We had a wonderful week in this lovely cottage, loved everything about it!"
! We didn't have any problems at all
The only disappointing thing was no welcome pack as pictured in the Sykes advert. We had to find a shop for milk which we weren't expecting but it didn't deter from the enjoyment of the week.
A free airshow every weekday was great, with an added bonus of the Red Arrows on the first night which was a great start to our week.
A super location, we loved the huge beach just down the lane which was ideal for the dogs to race around.
Thank you for sharing your home
Apologies for there being no milk this was an oversight by the housekeeping team. Usually there is a starter pack.
So pleased you enjoyed Friars and had a marvellous time on Anglesey

Thankyou so much for your review. It is very much appreciated and we are so pleased that you were able to enjoy the Friars experience. Along with RSPB areas, AONB, and Cymyran beach which is very special and unspoilt. All in All an excellent place to stay.

"The cottage was beautiful and comfy."
The kitchen was well resourced with dishes and a there was plenty of room for 6 of us. Easily reached from the A55 and close to the beach which we visited a few times. Guests are asked not to change the heating settings but it was too hot an a couple of evenings/mornings and too cool on another. Having control of the settings makes sense at times especiallywhenthe weather is changeable. We had two big problems during our stay with the door latch and the bottom oven. When pushed completely shut, it is very difficult to open. The door latch doesn't fully engage so is catching the frame. It has nothing to do with the deadlock. Two elderly members of our party couldn't open the door latch and they were concerned about being stuck in the cottage if we weren't there. As the back gate was swollen shut they had no way of getting out if home alone. We aren't the first guests to mention the lock so it is obviously an issue that isn't being dealt with. It was mentioned to the owner who said he'd try to get his handyman around but no one appeared whilst we were there. Also the bottom oven turns itself off if the time isn't set. Even when the time is set, it sometimes turns itself off randomly. We read the manual and overrode the auto setting but by the end of the week it was clicking itself off quite frequently. This was a pain as one of us had to stand guard by the cooker just in case. Two issues which could be easily dealt with. Apart from that we had a lovely stay.
Thank you for your feedback which is valuable to us. We have addressed the point about the front door and problems you had with the Yale lock. We have had a locksmith to look at the lock again, and he assures us that is working correctly. We have two cases where it was reported as not working correctly. we have since added the opening instructions for the locks to the information provided upon guests arrival. This will clear up any confusion on how to use the Yale lock. The front door can occasionally be stiff on closing unfortunately this is due to the weather and the swelling of the timber frame and door. The same applies to the back gate. Its a hard one to call take too much off and in the summer when the timbers shrink the wind will blow through any gaps. Unfortunately, our handyman at the time was visiting his mother in Yorkshire and was unable to come back to rectify the problem you mentioned. Trying to find other tradesman on the Island is near impossible and if you do they will quote weeks if not months before they will attend.

"This was a fabulous location and a lovely spacious cottage."
The only issue we had was the central heating kept going off but it was quickly reset by the owner once informed. The log burner was a challenge and didn't seem to stay lit for longer than 15 minutes unfortunately, but when it was roaring it added a nice cosy feel to the living room.
We are sorry you experienced a few problems. Sometimes guests although requested not to, interfere with the heating system. This causes the heating to mis behave via the Nest system. Once you informed us we had the system reset which corrected the problem. The Wood Burner is a very efficient and great for those winter nights. Once a good bed of red embers are kept on the grate of the burner adding more logs will keep it going all night. The burner was left ready to just light the fire lighters on the first evening ,and full instructions are left by the side of the burner on the hearth. We hope to see you again and your experience with the wood burner more favourable.
Many Thanks

"We had a good stay but had some issues."
No welcome basket. No fire companion set. Oven and grill broke down on the first morning. This was not rectified until around 7.30pm that evening. The yale lock on the front door needs fixing. We nearly got locked in on the last morning. It took a lot of jiggling to finally open it. We enjoyed the location and had a good stay but there are definately things that could be improved.
We are sorry you feel you experienced a few problems whilst staying at Friars. We do not offer a welcome pack from October to March as we leave a starter pack of logs, kindling and fire lighters which at that time of the year is more beneficial. As soon as you notified the office on your second day that the grill worked the first day but not the second. We arranged for a tradesman to visit and fix the problem which he did by 6.15pm that day. This we know as he sent a photo to show all working and job complete. The Yale lock on the front door is a dead lock fitting and should you accidentally turn it the wrong way it won't budge. You have to turn it all the way back the opposite way and then turn to open the lock. We have since had this checked out and assured it is working correctly.
I hope this helps to explain the situation and we are constantly as owners back and to Friars to ensure the standard is kept. It's what we would expect. Thank you for your feedback.

"Beautiful cottage!"
Plenty of room for children, adults and dogs. Very deceptive from the outside as looks tiny but is really spacious. The cottage has tons of character and was a great base for use to explore the area.
Great to have the washer/dryer facilities.
The two bathrooms were also much appreciated.
Lovely walks locally, the beach approximately 15/20 minutes away was a massive hit with the kids.
The only small inconvenience was the yale lock on the front door was a little tricky and did stick a couple of times.
We had a great time at the friars and would highly recommend.
Many Thanks for your feedback. The Yale lock is a safety lock and if it has not been fully released, i.e.turned all the way round past the opening segment it is tricky to use. We will have our locksmith check the lock.
Very pleased you enjoyed your stay at Friars and yes it is deceiving small on the outside but large and open once your inside.
Hope to see you again.

"On arrival,Friars appears to be a small cottage but inside it is actually spacious and we loved the way the bedrooms were separated."
The living room is lovely with its enormous fireplace, crog loft and stable door. Everything in the house is of the highest quality and the totally enclosed garden is an added bonus if you have dogs. We loved the occasional planes taking off or landing and rushed to the windows to watch them but they did not disturb us at all. My friend from Italy who was with me walked along the beach to Rhosneigr every morning before 7 o'clock and revelled in the solitude she found there. Just two little "niggles" which are really not important. It would have been lovely to have had the heated towel rails working as we could not really put expensive waterproof anoraks into the tumble dryer on the two days when we had torrential rain and I personally (aged 80) would have appreciated a mat in the shower as I was afraid of slipping. I can thoroughly recommend Friars to anyone who wants a well placed and charming base from which to discover my favourite island.
Hi Mary,
Many thanks for your feedback. We are so pleased you enjoyed the Friars experience. As you now know the towel rails in the bathrooms operate from the main heating system and are operational when the temperature on the boiler hits a certain level.
We agree with your friend, the Beach we have access to is a secret gem and not used by many people. We kind of like it that way. The stretch of unspoilt beach from Cymyran to Rhosneigr is a fantastic walk, stroll or run. Even better watch the best sunsets on the island with an evening glass of fizz.

Loved the location; the beach was perfect for the dogs and the closeness of RAF Valley with the planes was a unique and enthralling experience.
The gardens are great for dogs and soaking up some lovely late autumn sunshine.
The cottage itself is beautifully presented, lots of fantastic touches, well equipped kitchen, comfy bedrooms, warm, plenty of hot water and our favourite for the October break..........the wood burner.
Would highly recommend Friars to anyone considering Anglesey and we definitely hope to be back soon.
A wonderful, warm and inviting holiday cottage.

The garden is very safe and secure for dogs; a real sun-trap too, and great for watching the planes from RAF Valley. These - although quite loud at times - didn’t disturb us at all and weren’t nearly as frequent as we had thought they might be! We would definitely love to come back to Friars very soon.

Nice garden table and chairs provided at the back along with a more rustic table and chairs in the enclosed front garden, but great sitting there to watch the planes coming/going at RAF Valley... very noisy but only day time (and not that frequent) and not at the weekend.
