  • "Had a lovely ( rain -free!"

) week in this spacious, comfortable and well equipped property. Being in the heart of the village and close to the general store and little cafe was a bonus. Tayvallich appears to be a thriving little community with a gentle rhythm to it...so heartening to see in a relatively remote part of Scotland.

The views on the website are no longer true to life, and won’t be in the future! The car parking space is vastly reduced and the front step is very high and urgently needs a handrail. We have a photo to show how the view from the front bedroom is not as shown on your website and the photos should be replaced without delay. The completion of the ongoing building work will in no way restore what has been destroyed! Such a pity because it is a beautiful cottage.

  • "Overall cleanliness of property good ."

Main area of concern was kitchen. . After toaster stopped working and no replacement for 2days we used grill in oven 1.- rubber seal hanging off with some at top missing . 2. Shelves not clean 3.- baking trays in cupboard rusty . In the pot drawer we had to clean frying pan and pot as there was residue food still on them. Very disappointing. Property had not been checked properly stale coffee in container , while looking for an object dropped on floor a cigarette end was found under a bed . We would still recommend this property as it was lovely ,the view was distracted by building work and tradesmen coming at 8 am not conducive to relaxing . Building work was mentioned but a full scale construction site of a new build property is misleading .

Beautiful view over the loch, from the living room. We were warned about the construction work next door, so this wasn't an issue. There's a little shop and an nice restaurant within walking distance. Beautiful and relaxing environement, with plenty of lovely sights and opportunities for walks in the nearby area. Villages worth visiting: Oban, Inveraray, Tarbert... and many more. We really enjoyed our holiday here, and we can definitely recommend a stay in the holiday cottage Am Bruaich!

The only thing wrong with the cottage was the bed in the main bedroom was not as comfortable as when we first visited 2 years ago. Owners are really lovely and nothing was too much trouble even to come out on a Sunday to show us how to use the hob. Hopefully all being well we will be back in 2 years time

  • "The property was lovely."

Beds were poor - very firm wooden slats and thin mattress; poor sleeps all week. Property could not have failed with the view straight out onto the loch...except for the building work being carried out by the same owner dead in front of us. Digger, workmen, building materials being craned in, concrete mixers discharging their loads. To add insult to injury, the workmen and owner frequently worked on the very property we were staying in, with no "hope you don't mind", or "we'll be done by...". Nothing. We paid good money for rest and relaxation whereas we couldn't even feel comfortable sitting on the outside picnic table because we'd be looking directly at the guys working on our drive. Very poor.

  • "All was good except for the building work."

We were only warned about it on 17/4 just 10 days before arrival there and too late to reconsider/cancel. And the warning downplayed how intrusive it was - major groundwork immediately in front of the picture window with the view. We think you should have done better and the picture on your website is misleading and needs updating.

Just one issue. We couldn't understand how to get into the property. The details we were given simply said enter a given code. We duly did this and expected the door to open. What we didn't know was that we were dealing with a key safe. I'm used to inputting codes and doors open automatically. Could the instructions about gaining access to the property state that the entry code operates a key safe. That way we'd have understood we had to extract a key from the black box.

  • "A very last-minute booking and we hit the jackpot!"

Comfortable, beautiful view, well maintained and very clean. Set back from the road so incredibly quiet and relaxing. Shop a few steps away, with the basics plus delicious local bread and Gigha ice cream and a great wee cafe behind it. Lovely food at the Tayvallich Inn a couple of minutes' walk away (book in advance). Very responsive owners - I think they have addressed most of the suggestions in the reviews, but for the avoidance of doubt... The bed IS now a UK kingsize bed. There is a hairdryer. There is now a cafetière... and iron, ironing board and drying rack. So in the spirit of trying to make this absolutely perfect, we thought we would rack our brains for what we would love to see for our next visit. All we could come up with was hooks on the back of the bathroom and bedroom doors... and somewhere to put our soap when using the fabulous shower. It is that close to perfect for us. Can't wait to come back!

The shower was excellent with plenty of hot water for a family of 5 adults. The property is adequate but this is my personal opinion the lounge suite is a little tired and if the front garden was cut back and tidied up it would be on another level. A patio and garden furniture would be fantastic too. Do not let this comment put you off though. We particularly enjoyed the ever changing view from the lounge and master bedroom.

  • "This is a lovely cottage in many respects, but our stay was spoilt by the fact that the king size bed, as advertised on the Sykes website, was infact only a double."

We were amazed to find that several others had made similar comments in the past and certainly the main bedroom is large enough to take a king size bed with ease. Also the duvet barely overlapped the bed and the bed linen was coarse. Sykes website needs to be updated or (our preference) the owners fit a king size bed in the main bedroom to reflect the Sykes listing. If this was done we would gladly book again.

    2) We found the kitchen equipment a little bit short of good sized saucepans, if it was occupied to full capacity it needs at least a bigger saucepan and possibly even a slow cooker for when visitors have been out all day in bad weather to come home to a hot meal. The house is ideal -clean and comfortable with all the facilities one could reasonably expect. The location and views from the windows are wonderful although the acer in front of the house is growing and will soon encroach on that view. The owners have clearly spent a lot of money on the refurbishment. The house is clean, well maintained, excellent kitchen and bathroom, the shower for a holiday rental was the best we’ve had in all our years of using Sykes. The location is really pleasant overlooking the loch and the town itself , although quiet did have enough facilities to help stock the cupboards or eat out. The main downside we found were the beds were tiny, the rooms were pleasantly large and spacious but the beds were small doubles which was odd considering the money spent here and the ample room for larger. The garden needs a lot of work, could be spectacular considering the view. All in all this home was really very good, the small beds stopped it from being truly excellent. I would recommend a family stay here as the cottage and area are worth it.

No hairdryer, no outside table and chairs, we missed being able to eat outside. There is a washing machine but strangely no iron or pruning board, this is a first for us but perhaps it's normal for scotland. It was well equipped (apart from a lack of coffee-maker which is a common problem in Scottish self-catering - we've got used to taking our own with us. I wish there was an agency or industry standard on this) The view from the living area was superb - two comfortable chairs to sit and watch all the activity in the bay - we could have sat there all day! It has been renovated very recently to a very good standard. The pictures of the house on the Sykes site are beautiful and the house matched up to the high standards they set. There were more electric power plugs than one could possibly use - including USB plugs. Wonderful! The only niggles were very small - the lack of a hairdryer, 2 pin shaver point, nothing to play CDs and DVDs. I know there was Netflicks available by subscription but not everyone has that. The current lock-down restrictions meant that local facilities were very limited - but that is not a reflection on the house. We would certainly return.

About the location

TAYVALLICH

Arichonan 3.5 miles; Crinan 8 miles; Kilmartin 11.5 miles; Lochgilphead 12 miles.

Situated on the Knapdale Peninsula to the west of Scotland, in the region known as Argyll and the Isles, Tayvallich is this charming harbour village with an excellent seafood restaurant, inn, coffee shop, shop and post office. The town’s name has Gaelic origins, and translates to 'the house of the pass’. It sits on the shore of Loch Sween in a horseshoe bay surrounded by woodland. A mecca for boating and sea kayaking with public slipway and pontoons. An all purpose sports court sits next to the village hall, where ceilidhs are regularly held. A 10 minute walk takes you to the opposite side of the peninsula, to a pretty little beach called Carsaig Bay where you can enjoy views across Jura Sound and spectacular sunsets over the Isle of Jura. Fast ferries travel across the sound so you can easily explore the island. On the peninsula itself, there is plenty to see and do to explore the history of this delightful area. Visit the medieval Chapel of Keills and admire its display of carved stones, as well as its beautiful view of the MacCormaig Islands. You can also explore the National Nature Reserve on the Taynish Peninsula, which is home to one of the oldest oak forests in Britain or explore the Scottish beaver trail in Knapdale Forest. The 12th century Castle Sween sits on the opposite side of the loch, and Kilmory beach is easy to reach and a lovely destination for an afternoon stroll and picnic. The village is an ideal base to explore the Mull of Kintyre and enjoy it’s world class golf courses, surfing and beaches or visit Oban, 1hrs drive north, gateway to the western isles. A stunning, secluded corner of Scotland, with endless heritage and beauty to discover as well as plenty of opportunities for walking, cycling and fishing.
