  • "Hello, this weekend was purchased as a present four our friends who had just got married."

The reason we chose the property was because of the hot tub so we were going to use it as a base and socialise in the evenings relaxing in the tub. On arrival the property was very clean and tidy inside (only two coffee saches for four guests? But i guess thats just a nice little extra anyway) . The following morning we went to use the hot before going out but unfortunately the water smelt slightly stagnant and was only 34 degrees (certainly not hot tub temperature). I found test strips for the tub, there was no indication of chlorine or bromine in the water hence it was not set up properly. This was somewhat disappointing as the attraction of the property was the hot tub hence I felt we paid a higher than average price for the area. I phoned the owner (Gary) and explained once we were able to catch up with eachother. Gary was apologetic and put the error down to the company responsible for maintenance. Not a fault of the property but the following evening the neighbours had a loud domestic incident (not really what we wanted when we were trying to treat our friends to a relaxing weekend). I'm sure on other occasions this would be an ideal location for anyone wanting to stay in Torquay, easy walking distance to key locations, but on this occasion it didn't work out for us. There are understandably lots of rules around the hot tub use with a potential fine of £100 if they are breached. It's a shame there wasn't an offer of a £100 refund as the facility wasn't available. I wouldn't choose to stay at the property again as there are better value locations / hotels that would be suitable for similar, if not less money.

  • "Nice, comfortable property, close to restaurants and harbour."

Nice clean accommodation , only criticism was the dining table chairs were threadbare in places and put us off sitting at the table. Maybe owner should think about replacing them.

  • "Cleanliness issues."

Oven was a health risk with rancid fat and mould in grill pan and oven trays with burnt on fat through months of not being cleaned. Oven was cleaned for us after 4 days and trays replaced. Cupboard doors had handprints all over them. TV covered in child's handprints. Crumbs, sand and TV remote under sofa cushions. No instructions for tv. Four remotes ??? No serving dishes and limited cookware. Plates and bowls had crackled glaze. Pillows and protectors stained. Ensuite shower had mould. Overbath shower too much pressure and flips back and floods bathroom. No clear instructions on refuse collections. Hot tub nice but didn't compensate cleanliness. Poor value for money.

We are very sorry that you were so disappointed. We’ve never had complaints re the cleanliness of the house. We pay over £200 for the house to be thoroughly cleaned on each changeover. The bedding and towels are always spotless. The oven may have been left a little dirty but we paid for a professional clean as soon as you reported it and bought new baking trays and had them delivered the same day. We stayed in the house ourselves recently and the plates and bowls etc were fine. There is a dishwasher and the house has all you need for 6 people. As for the TV it is simple to use and in over 3 years nobody has mentioned having a problem. The water pressure is high in the area but this is easily resolved by not turning the taps full on. • "Loved our stay at driftwood home from home just better."

Facilities excellent including such comfortable beds and hottub an added bonus after a day's exploring. Proximity to shops, pubs, restaurants and other entertainment was excellent with most within 5 to 10 minutes away. Would definitely stay here again and would certainly recommend to Friends and family

  • "Great property in a great location close to the town centre, and attractions."

The house has a lovely hot tub which is great for relaxing in when the kids have gone to bed! The only thing that let it down for us were a few cleanliness issues; the fridge had a nasty smell and needs a good clean, in the en suite bathroom there was black mould all over the shower head. We also felt the house needed a good dust, lots of cobwebs on the upstairs windows, dust on the blinds etc. There was also a very drippy tap in the kitchen.

Listened to your comments all been resolved. Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay."

Just a few points: The temperature inside the house - too hot. We had to buy a fan as air con wasn’t working. Also the door latch was broken on so my 2 year old could open the door. It’s worth mentioning that the hot tub maintenance people turn up regularly without warning. Finally a 9am check out is soooo early! Otherwise we had a wonderful stay, thank you!

Stunningly looked after and in a perfect location. We had such fun in the hot tub after walks along the coastal path and around Torquay, Babbacombe and Paignton. Can't wait to come back

  • "A beautiful place in a lovely area, very clean and modern inside and beds are so comfy."

The hot tub was bliss in the mornings along with the tassimo drinks provided. Its location is literally a 5 minute walk from the town centre which is far enough from the hustle and bustle at night. We absolutely loved it and are hoping to return in the future.

  • "The house was fantastic."

Great location, central to everything and exactly as described. Great hot tub to relax in. Good parking. The only thing I would change is a second shower as we were 3 Adults and had to use the same shower. But we did know that from the description and it did not deter us from booking. 10 out of 10 from all of us.

Second shower installed. Thanks for your comments Property Owner

  • "We have stayed at a number of Sykes properties but this has to be up there with the best!"

The house is a real gem, such a great location for the town of Torquay but also for the surrounding area as well. We walked and used buses most days, only getting in the car to venture further afield a couple of times. There is a shop close by and lots of places to eat in town, we hardly needed to use the kitchen at all! The house is very clean and in excellent condition. The beds were comfy, the bed linen and towels all pristine. We loved the style of decoration and the uncluttered air of the place. The house was plenty big enough for 4 although might feel a bit cramped for 6. The hot tub was brilliant, in a really quirky backdrop with the church right behind it. The owner was most helpful on the one occasion there was a small query re the water levels in the tub. 2 small points that could be improved - a clothes airer would come in handy for wet hot tub towels (I know there was washing line but this was quite short and went across the top of the tub so was a bit compromised). Secondly the shower arm in the ensuite bathroom would not hold the shower head up - ok for a 4ft midget but no good for my 6ft husband!! Minor problems on an otherwise great stay.

Thank you for your comment we’re resolving this season. Property Owner

The jacuzzi is fantastic and situated in a secluded rear yard which gets the sun from dawn to dusk. This semi detached house is ideally situated about 10 minutes walk down hill to the town centre. The walk back could be problematic for the elderly or infirm. All in all a brilliant choice for a vacation in Torquay we would highly recommend it to all.
