We didn’t go for the fishing, just a bit of seclusion and the cabin certainly provided some peace and quiet. It is back to basics and tech free but that’s what we wanted. Comfort, the log burner, and of course bringing our dogs was a real treat. Don’t expect “Boutique hotel decor” it’s a log cabin, (dogs holiday there too) but do expect beautiful views, near by days out, chocolate box walks, followed by comfort, warmth from a roaring log burner, everything you need in the kitchen, cleanliness and our friendly host Rob was really welcoming. Thank you for having us. We will be back!

The cabin is simple but full of charm. And the best thing, there is no signal or internet! It is surrounded with amazing walks and many sites to see a short drive away. The owner Rob was lovely and gave us many tips to explore. The only downside was there were no basic condoments like salt, pepper, oil but a village shop only 5 mins away so wasn't a problem really. For sure would recomend this to anyone who is looking for a truly relaxing break. Thank you :) Aiste and Jason

The log cabin is just that, don’t expect to go to a log cabin and a completely modern tech experience, it is a very back to basics stay but that’s exactly what we were after so we could spend the days exploring and the evenings in reading by the fire. a lovely big wood burner and can pick up more wood if needed. The bed is very comfy, the sofas are a little warm but do the trick. It was cold when we stayed but we brought blankets and walking boots and water proofs ready for the weather. If you do want reception you can get it if you walk slightly down the drive. Sidmouth is a nice seaside town not to far away and Honiton good to go for restaurants.

  • "The furnishings were very outdated."

They looked and felt like they had been in there for 50 years. The sofa looked like it was second-hand to start with and was not comfortable. The sheet for the duvet was practically threadbare and had poppers missing at the bottom. The bunk bed was very unstable and visibly rocked when climbing to the top. The shower's drain didn't work well and so your feet would be in a constant puddle. We did alert the owner to this who came and did something which helped a little. The windows had not been cleaned for a long time and so obscured the view when looking out of them. The description of the log cabin's location in relation to the trout lake was very misleading. The log cabin does not lead onto the trout lake at all, but two nursery ponds with a high wire fence surrounding them. It also said that you could walk in the woods behind the cabin, however the woods were inaccessible from any place at the location - we looked thoroughly. We expected there to be paths into the woods where you could go for a walk, but to access the woods with safe parking, was quite a drive away and not at all the woods on the location. There were also two other holiday accommodations on site which was very surprising as there was no mention of the other accommodations in the description. One of the other accommodations did face the trout lake and have the woods behind it and felt more like the description for the log cabin, and so was disappointing to feel we had been mislead. The cleanliness was the worst part of the stay. We found previous people's possession's in the drawers and rubbish under the bed. There was a mouldy banana skin in the bread bin. I called to ask the owner if they had bbq tongs, which he assured me he did, however there were none provided and the knives were so blunt their blades were rounded and did not cut through anything.

We didn’t realise it was so far away from the main road and the access road was very narrow. We enjoyed watching the trout being feed and moved.

The drive down is beautiful, you feel like you are leaving the world behind. The dense tree cover is comforting and embracing and once within the cabin, I could have stayed there forever.! If you are after peace and quiet, no phone signal and a place to reset, relax, read and just "be" this is the place to come. The family, where friendly, welcoming and attentive. I did not partake with the fly fishing, but I did sit and admire the gentleman using the beautifully clean lakes. That said I have to say that Rob and his wife have the place to a very homely and comfortable standard. Myself my wife and 2 grown up grand daughters spent a week there and would have been happy to stay another week. If there has to be a downside, it is that the very narrow road leading down hill to the fishery can be a little challenging, but that’s not going to change anytime soon so give it a go, but keep an eye out for oncoming traffic and be prepared to reverse. It was in a very nice setting and there were fresh flowers and a cream tea as described in other reviews. The inside of the cabin was very dark and gloomy compared with the sunshine outside. The sofas were old and saggy and not at all restful, and all the bed linen was very tired and pilled. I slept in the double bed which was fine, but my friend slept in the tiny claustrophobic room with the bunk bed which was extremely hard and uncomfortable. Utensils were adequate but basic (no spare loo roll!). The TV was small and lost reception regularly. The cabin might be an 'adventure' for a young family but was a disappointment for two active pensioners! We never saw our hosts, but left a day early putting the key and note in their letter box.
