  • "It is a shame you have to give a score to the place out of 5."

As it wasn't 5 out of 5. It was close with a few exceptions. Firstly, parking - The location presents it's own challenges. We managed it, no problem. We did see a lot of people other people, including residents, having problems. Secondly, as soon as you enter the property, you get this slightly damp smell, which you encounter when you have had floodwater damage. It is not a new smell, but an old smell, which is hard to eradicate. It is clear the owners have addressed this issue with flood defences. Thirdly and lastly, we had a few fixtures and fittings that were in need of tightening. No big issue, as I had a few tools and we sorted them. Other than that the place was perfect. Very comfy beds. Perfect after a long day's walk.

Glad it was a comfortable stay and thank you for those small bits of maintenance! Property Owner

  • "I would just like to say a very big Thankyou to Justin the owner of Holmerigg and Sykes holidays."

We really enjoyed our stay at Holmerigg, it was exactly as described on Sykes website, but so much more, on arrival, we were happy to see how clean it was, and it was also very comfortable, with the luxury of two bathrooms. Car Parking was also no problem. having the village shop right next door meant we didn’t have to travel far to get essentials. Also the property owner Justin kept in touch with me which was lovely. Braithwaite is a lovely quiet village and a perfect place to stay when touring round the Lake District. Yes I would recommend a stay at Holmerigg, I would love to stay there again.

Thank you for the great feedback and delighted you had a brilliant stay! Property Owner

Spotlessly clean, warm and comfortable. Only thing to note is that if you have children, beware that front door opens directly on to road.

Excellent house with everything we needed and spotlessly clean. Perfect location for nearby walks. Village has 2 great pubs and a cafe. Food at Royal Oak is great. Only 5 minutes drive to Keswick. Highly recommended. We will be back!

  • "The cottage was superb."

Beautifully clean when I arrived and cosy too (the latter very much needed considering the very wet weather!). Lovely walks right from the door and a really handy village shop right next door complete with a lovely coffee shop, perfect after a few hours on the fells. Everything had been thought of from kitchen utensils, games, running trail maps in nearby Whinlatter to a bluetooth speaker, washing up liquid, toilet rolls and tea towels. I'd happily recommend this cottage!

Delighted that you had a great stay and enjoyed the local amenities and walks. Hope to welcome you back again one day. Property Owner

  • "We have just got home from a lovely week staying in Holme Rigg, we are a family ..."

We have just got home from a lovely week staying in Holme Rigg, we are a family of 4 adults, the cottage was ideal, in a lovely village ,great facilities right next door to the village shop, very clean, just 2 minor issues the shower tray would fill with the water,so you had to have a quick shower, and instructions on how to use the washing machine dryer would have been handy to dry your wet hiking clothes, but i wouldn't like to put anyone off, we all loved our stay, and will definately go back

So pleased that you had a great week. Thank you for pointing those two small things which we have sorted out. Look forward to welcoming you again soon! Property Owner

  • "The property is in a great location being a few minutes from Skiddaw, Catbells, Bassenthwaite and Derwent Water."

The property was also fairly clean and very tidy. The major problem is parking. A parking space is provided however, because of the irresponsible parking of neighbours, it is very difficult to park there. The neighbours park their cars directly opposite the space so we struggled to get our car in the space. If the neighbour next door would have parked in their space we would not have been able to get our car out of the space. We would use Sykes again but not this particular cottage.

We're sorry to hear you had problems parking. If parking is proving problematic (eg with a large car) then we'd recommend parking elsewhere in the village, where there's plenty of free parking a few minutes walk away. Property Owner

  • "Lovely property, only thing that was missing was some outdoor space."

Which we knew there was no garden but thought there maybe a yard. Great location, good dog friendly pubs in walking distance. It would have been useful to have access to a vacuum cleaner. We loved our stay and the lakes.

Thank you very much for the feedback and for the suggestion about access to a vacuum cleaner. We have made sure this is available to guests in the future. Property Owner

  • "Beautiful property in a wonderful location."

Will definitely be back! Just a couple of little things that would have improved our stay, blackout blind or curtain for second window in top floor bedroom it was too light in the mornings and an outside tap, maybe with a shower attachment to wash off muddy paws. Other than that couldn't fault it!

So pleased that you enjoyed your stay and thank you for the suggestions. We have now provided black out curtains in that room and provided a Mud Daddy for washing dirty paws. Property Owner

  • "A lovely house and well equipped."

We really enjoyed our stay. We would recommend that the listing makes it clear that parking is on the road on a first come basis. We struggled throughout and with room for up to 5 adults, a party with more than one car will struggle. We also couldn’t initially find the bins and there was no recycling advice. The main bin was also full. Finally, there was an electrical problem with the kitchen sockets which we think is related to the dishwasher. We reported that directly to Skye’s by phone & email before we left.

We're pleased you enjoyed the house and had a great stay. Thank you for the helpful feedback and suggestions. There is reserved off road parking for one car, and we’ve now provided info on where to park a second car in the village if needed (it's usually easy to park near the church). We’ve provided some more information about the bins and recycling. Unfortunately, there has been a strike by the refuse collectors which means the rubbish wasn’t collected the week you visited. We've also installed a new dishwasher, thank you for reporting this to us. We look forward to welcoming you again in the future. Property Owner

  • "Holme Rigg was comfortable and well equipped."

Braithwaite is lovely, a good base for a Lakes holiday. Our issue was that we were not notified that there was major renovation work going on in an adjoining property with building noise starting as early as 7:30 every week day. On top of that the road running over the bridge was being resurfaced all week and again we had heavy lorries, rollers and workmen starting shortly after 7am during the week, Sykes need to ensure their cottage owners make them aware of potential disturbances like that as we thought we’d picked a peaceful location.

We're glad you enjoyed the cottage and the village but we're so sorry to hear about the roadworks and the works next door. Unfortunately we didn't know either were going to take place last week. We understand that the roadworks in the centre of the village are now complete and we have also been assured by our neighbour that their renovation is very nearly finished. Property Owner

We had our dog with us and we brought a stair gate to keep him downstairs. A future consideration for the owners might be to replace the downstairs carpet with easy clean flooring as in the well-equipped kitchen area. Will definitely recommend to family and friends. Mick

Thanks for your feedback. We really appreciate it and will consider your suggestion. We use the back kitchen door when our dog is muddy. Great to hear you got onto the fells. We love hiking up to Barrow and Grisedale Pike from the cottage. Property Owner

Lovely cosy house with everything you need for a self catering stay. Two good pubs within a very short walk and a fabulous restaurant if you want something a little more upmarket. We have been to the Lake District many times but this is the first we have visited and stayed in Braithwaite. Would definitely stay again in Braithwaite and at this property.

Ideally situated next to the village shop and 2 pubs. It was so lovely arriving in the dark to see the Christmas tree lit up in the cottage and neighbouring cottages all lit up. Excellent, comfortable facilities and very well equipped. I think we were the very first visitors to this cottage so happy to highly recommend it to others.

Thanks so much for your feedback. We are so glad you enjoyed your time at the cottage and yes, you were our first guests! Property Owner
