  • "09:30 check out is almost criminal, especially given the cleanliness of certain aspects."

The coffee machine had a significant amount of mould in there and we were having to clean plates and pans before we could use them as they were filthy. Lastly, some guests gave feedback that all of their wardrobes were dusty and the bathrooms hadnt been cleaned at all.

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, it is always appreciated as we seek to provide the best possible experience for our guests. Our check in / check our times are clearly stated on the sykes website prior to booking. We remind all guests that check out time is at 9.30am as this provides sufficient time for us to thoroughly clean the property before the next guests arrive. Anneside is large house and our cleaning team have limited time available to complete the cleaning prior to arrival of the next guests at 3.30 pm, hence the need for a check out time of 9.30 am. As the Property Manager I inspected the property immediately before your occupation, as did our head of cleaning services and neither of us would have been of the view that the bathrooms were dirty, in fact we pride ourselves in ensuring that porcelain and all polished surfaces are immaculate, so we are slightly surprised at your remarks, however we take them on board. The wardrobes are checked every week and I am again very surprised that you found them to be dusty, I personally checked the before your arrival. It is an inadvertent oversight on our part, that you found the coffee machine had not been checked since the last guests and I must apologies to you for this, it is of course unpleasant and we are very grateful to you for highlighting this for us. We appreciate that when one stays for a short break that it can be something of a wrench to depart so promptly on the last day of your stay, this does not however excuse members of your party from being rude to the cleaning staff as they arrive to carry our their duties. It is also disappointing that some of your party seem to have ignored our 'no smoking' rule and had smoked in the bedrooms. We will be contacting Sykes to seek compensation from you for the extra cleaning cost that we have incurred as a result of this. We take our guests comments very seriously and aim to achieve a first class holiday experience for all our guests. Thank you for your comments. Property Owner

  • "The house whilst beautiful had that end of session feel."

The hoovers needed servicing, the brushes, mobs etc were broken, the microwave didn’t work and one of the toilet seats were broken. There had also been a leak at some point leaving an unsightly stain on the lounge ceiling. The pathways at the back of the house were dangerously slippy when wet and needed jet washed. I think every guest should find the house in the same fresh state it is at the beginning of the session. We still had a fab time and our guests loved the house and said the beds were very comfortable. The location was beautiful.

Thank you very much for taking the time to leave your comments, all of which are duly noted and appreciated. We are taking immediate steps to rectify the matters which you have referred to. Due to the very busy period over the summer, time is only available to carry out cleaning service in between guest change overs. However, we now have decorative and more detailed maintenance matters planned in over the coming weeks, to ensure the property continues to present in a superb way. As a gesture of good will, please contact us through Sykes prior to your next booking in order for us to facilitate the best possible rate for you. Thank you once again for your constructive remarks. • "Enjoyable stay thank you."

Problem with smoke alarm quickly sorted out. Luxurious, very spacious accommodation although some features not functioning...ice machine, water boiler, waste disposal unit, shower in master bedroom not draining and caused small flood! Beautiful welcome pack, cake and flowers. Only other gripe was check in/ check out time - inflexible very early check out of 9.30 am and check in of 4pm effectively means you lose a day of your holiday. Normally we like to strip beds, clean the fridge/ ovens hoover mop etc and essentially leave a property as we find it....no time for this. Recently, Covid was used as a reason but we don't think this should apply any longer. Servicing a very large property should not be an excuse either...perhaps more staff are required. It was something of a surprise to only be able to drive back down the lane rather than walk...this might be something to mention in the description as its a consideration for people with small children. We enjoyed our stay and hope you find the feedback helpful. We can highly recommend chef Alison- delicious food delivered to the door and excellent value-many thanks.

We was welcomed by Jonathan and had some beautiful flowers and a cake as a welcoming to the house. We had a one year old upto grandparents on this family holiday. We cooked all the meals in the lovely kitchen which had every gadget that one would need. It was a lovely large social area to gather. The large living room was a perfect size for large families to sit together and play games or watch TV. Another smaller living room for grandchildren to play games and read and play a PS4. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the bathrooms amazing. Really enjoyed a good nights sleep after some amazing walks from the house. One walk from the house was a cross the field and down a lane to Leck Beck and the adults and grandchildren throughly enjoyed going across the stepping stones over the beck and building bridges. Also a very drive of 10 mins dive to Ingleton falls trail was amazing as you saw 10 waterfalls and a brilliant track to follow, definitely worth doing this. One night the younger adults ate at the Highwayman pub and they had a great evening with wonderful food. Jonathan the manager is very helpful and friendly. Well worth a visit for an amazing holiday. We will be going again.

  • "We have been asked to answer this on behalf of our son Christopher who made the original booking."

We found this house a beautiful, well-appointed centre for our Golden Wedding family celebration and thoroughly enjoyed our visit. However, our enjoyment was seriously marred by missing/broken elements which were not attended to during our stay despite our reporting them. On arrival, we were advised that the food waste disposal was out of commission but would be repaired the following Friday - after we left. This meant that one kitchen sink was totally out of commission as it was constantly blocked needing boiling water to clear it. However, we then discovered that the 'Quooker' boiling water dispenser was also not working. On reporting this we were told this was a known fault and that this too would be repaired after we left. The whole week was spent boiling kettles or lugging buckets of hot water from the utility room to the kitchen. The lack of hot water in the kitchen was a particular problem when trying to wash/rinse dishes and fragile glasses. We would never put fragile glass in a dishwasher. We would add that the facilities for dealing with waste and rubbish (no wheelie bin as advertised) were insufficient. We took our bottles to a local bottle bank. We suggest that this level of inconvenience should be compensated appropriately. Please advise the owners of our complaint. Paul and Marie Cortopassi

Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback, we would take this opportunity to address the points which you have made on behalf of your son Christopher. We always take great care to ensure that guests staying at the property have the best possible experience at all times. With reference to the specific elements to which you refer, namely the waste disposal unit, the Quooker hot water tap and the recycling facilities we would comment as follows: As you have remarked, the waste disposal facility had been found to be faulty, upon your arrival our property manger advised your party that although the waste disposal unit was not working, it was still possible to use the sink. Unfortunately, it was not possible to obtain the correct mechanical part to rectify this fault during your stay despite our best efforts. If members of your party had continued to try and place food waste down the waste unit during your stay this would have undoubtedly caused the wet waste to have become blocked. It was very unfortunate that your party then experienced a fault to the Quooker hot water tap. Again this is a specialist item and despite our best efforts we were unable to get a technician capable of dealing with this matter during your party’s stay. We appreciate that there is an element of inconvenience with this specialist boiling water tap being faulty, however the property does have two dish washers and a fully operational second washing up area in the utility room next door to the kitchen. Although we appreciate the care your party have taken in hand washing all the glasses, all the crockery, cutlery and glassware at the property is suitable to being washed in the dishwashers. Turning to comments regarding the management of waste and recycling at the property, both the recycling and waste was taken away during the course of your stay. We would add that the facilities for dealing with general waste and recycling, including the number of glass bottles, are usually perfectly adequate for a party of twelve for a weeks’ stay. It would have been helpful if your party expressed their concerns to us during the stay. Furthermore we would have appreciated it if we had been informed of the damage that the party had caused to the window dressings in the Master bedroom before departure, rather than allowing the cleaning team to discover the damage later. We do hope, as with all the other discerning guests that have stayed with us that, despite the unavoidable technical difficulties your party experienced, you will return to enjoy the high standards of accommodation and surroundings that Anneside has to offer. • "Lovely house which was ideal for a large family get-together."

Minor points to note: Access road is a bit tight for larger vehicles with some interesting speed bumps. There is a problem with flies at the property due to being on a sheep farm, but the zappers seem to keep them under control. Anyone with limited mobility may find the foot path down to Cowan Bridge a bit difficult and need to rely more on cars than they expect, especially as you can't just go for a wander across the farm fields that surround the house. Jonathan, property manager, was incredibly helpful and ensured that we all had a fantastic time.

About the location

COWAN BRIDGE

Kirkby Lonsdale 2 miles; Kendal 13 miles.

A small traditional village set in beautiful countryside and ideally placed for exploring Southern Lakeland, the Yorkshire Dales and the peaceful Forest of Bowland. A small village with a tearoom/general store, it sits just two miles from the lovely old market town of Kirkby Lonsdale, and just five miles from Ingleton and the famous Three Peaks. The nearby attractive market town of Kirkby Lonsdale is situated in the heart of the Lune Valley, mid way between the Yorkshire Dales and the Lake District. The town was mentioned in the Domesday Book of 1086, and holds a 13th century Market Charter. Nowadays, Thursday is market day, a perfect opportunity for visitors to explore the variety of distinctive shops in the town, or the many 17th and 18th century buildings which still stand. This part of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin – his "view" of the valley is still spectacular. The medieval Devil’s Bridge spans the river, and the quiet country lanes are ideal for exploring by car, bike, or even horse. There are three golf courses nearby, as well as tennis, riding, fishing and a variety of riverside and country walks, making the area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of year.
