  • "As mentioned in the guest book we said the village was wonderful as it was very quiet, and the cottage was well equipped."

The beds were extremely comfortable, and it was lovely that Pam had left food goodies for us, and a big plus was the off road parking for one car. Plus great location to visit all areas.

Thank you. The weather was disappointing but glad you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

Pam was very helpful and catered for the odd kitchen item we needed. Very cosy with the wood burner, nice comfortable big bed, well equipped kitchen and lovely big bath and shower. Local pub is a stone's throw away, good food and beer, very friendly staff and locals. Cottage and pub highly recommended.

  • "Appletree Cottage is the 5th cottage we have stayed in this year it it is by far the best one we have stayed in such a quant quite village and a lovely little pub just opposite where we had a couple of lovely home cooked meals."

The cottage is newly renovated. The kitchen has everything anyone could ever need. The bathroom is newly fitted and is really luxurious. Both bedrooms are really nice with so much storage room. The welcome pack that was left for us was the best we have ever had. Both the front and back gardens are so lovely and peaceful with lovely tables and chairs to sit in with a nice drink listening to the birds. There are some lovely walks from the village. We will definitely be going back to this lovely cottage.

Thank you. See you both again soon! Property Owner

Convenient rural location for both the Durham and Yorkshire Dales, with lots of walks on the doorstep. We enjoyed our week's stay immensely and highly recommend it. A couple of minor niggles were sorted out quickly by the lovely owners and we really appreciated all the supplies and provisions that had been left for us. Beautiful fresh flowers in every room provided the finishing touch. Thank you!

So glad you enjoyed your stay . The weather just couldn't have been better for such a special break for you. Property Owner

About the location

RICHMOND

Barnard Castle 10 miles; Leyburn 12 miles.

Situated at the entrance to Swaledale, the ancient market town of Richmond stands on a prominent hilltop site to the north of the River Swale. Its cobbled streets and narrow alleys or 'wynds' enshrine over nine centuries of busy history and unique character. The town grew up around its castle, a Norman fortress dating back to 1071, famously situated high above the river - indeed the name Richmond is derived from 'Riche-mont' meaning 'strong hill'. Today there are wonderful walks to be enjoyed such as the Castle Walk - a dramatic terrace walk beneath the castle walls - or alternatively walk alongside the River Swale where there are parks, safe paddling areas and small waterfalls to enjoy. Within the town, narrow streets and alleys radiate from the cobbled Market Place (which has a weekly market and monthly farmers’ market) and there are numerous shops, pubs and restaurants to enjoy. The town flourished in the 18th and 19th centuries and the resulting elegant Georgian architecture lines many of the old streets. The Georgian Theatre is one of the oldest surviving theatres in the country with visitors enjoying its regular productions all year round.
