"When we booked, the cottage was advertised with off road parking and access was via a small set of steps."
On arrival we found no off road parking and access was via a set of 9 stone steep steps. Also within the cottage the access to the upper floor is via a steep and winding staircase.
None of these were in the original advertisement.

"Have already raised the question with you about access and parking at Ascot cottage, your app description of the stairs needs updating immediately ,they are not ' a small set of steps with handrail ' they are 9 high steep steps ,not suitable at all for anyone with mobility problems ,and also ' roadside parking ' there are double yellow lines either side of road stretching at least 100 yards in each direction ,and despite my husband using his blue badge we received two nasty notes and a knock on the door about the car being parked."
This made us feel very unwelcome we left the cottage early on the Wednesday as we'd had enough, the cottage itself is very good ,well equipped and comfortable ,the inside steps are winding and steep and care is needed.I feel you need to update this description asap.I would not have booked the cottage if it was clear about the access and parking.
Sorry to hear you had problems parking, the road does narrow in front of the cottage and some delivery vans would struggle passing a car parked on the yellow lines. But i would just like to put things straight.
The yellow lines are about 6o yards in length not 100 yards The cottage is in the middle leaving 30 yards in each direction to walk
you can unload and load on the yellow lines, and people can be dropped off if they have difficulty walking the 30 yards to the cottage.

"Ascot cottage is a quaint and cosy cottage, finished to a high standard with everything you may need for a very comfortable stay."
First time we had been away for Xmas and Ascot cottage didn't disappoint, very tastefully decorated for Xmas and a lovely welcome package even treats for our pooch. The log burning stove was great and kept us toasty. The village of Sheriff Hutton is lovely and some lovely dog walks, very friendly at the post office and the pub did a lovely Christmas dinner. Highly recommend this delightful cottage and we will be back in the summer months to see how everything looks in sunshine. Thank you very much Susan.

"My husband, myself and our full coat Shih Tzu Benni stayed in Ascot House for a week and we had a fabulous time."
The house was comfortable, warm and had everything we needed during our stay. We had intended to be out and about every day, but the house was so comfortable we stayed indoors as much as we were out. So cosy and as a plus, it snowed. Even when our Shih Tzu Benni wanted to sit on the doorstep with the front door open and watch other dogs going by, it was cosy and warm inside with the log burner and central heating, Will definitely visit again in a heartbeat

I took a hairdryer with me as I didn't recall seeing one listed, I would want one in colder wetter weather."
There was one, I need not of added weight to the packaging . Same goes for a radio.
But saying all that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the cottage.

"The cottage was a delight."
The welcome pack was a really nice touch and the homemade jam was gorgeous. The cottage was very clean throughout and the cleaner deserves to be personally thanked. The cottage was spotless. We loved the shower and the rear garden sitting out area. The bed was very comfortable and we had very restful nights. We loved the wooden shutters and the wood burner. We used it once on one chilly evening, but didn't need any wood. Burning the coal that was made up for us, was enough to take the chill away for an hour or so before bedtime. We understood that the cottage had access rights through the neighbours garden (like we do at our own home), but we didn't need to use that rear access. The weather was really good for our holiday break and our dog's feet were cleaned up and dried with towels (provided) at the front of the house. People in the village were very friendly, especially the young man in the stone house to the left beyond Ascot.

"We had a very comfortable stay at Ascot Cottage."
The cottage is well equipped with good quality items and it was extremely clean. There were some nice little touches with plants and decorations around the cottage. My only concern was that the shower can get very slippery and maybe a non-slip mat would be a useful addition. The cottage is very cosy but with the amount of steps it would not be suitable for anyone with mobility issues.

"Ascot cottage is really beautiful and spotlessly clean."
Every comfort provided. Lovely fitted kitchen. Beautiful bathroom and bedroom.
BUT more emphasis should be put on the 9 very steep steps up to the cottage which makes it difficult unloading the car. The stairs are also very steep. If we had stayed more than the two days it would have become a real problem. So in the listing it should be said not suitable for people with mobility problems. Double yellow lines outside the cottage made it difficult to load and unload the car.
Also disappointed that the local pub is closed permanently and the next nearest one only opens a few days a week.

"This was a really lovely holiday cottage."
Every single thing you could think of had been provided (other than facility to do washing) and the use of space had been very well thought out. The steps up to the property and the steep stairs would rule it out for someone not physically able but after I'd got my heavy case up the stairs it was fine (smaller cases would have been better). The only thing I was missing was either a washing machine or spinner and outside line. As I was travelling for 3 weeks, I really needed to wash a few things to keep me going. I found the village delightful, the people were very friendly and the number of walks for myself and my little dog right from the door were amazing. We went to Malton (super dog friendly), York and the wonderful Castle Howard. All within easy reach.

"This is a cracking little place for two young, fit people."
They would have no problems with the steps up to the property, the the one (upstairs) toilet and the steep stairs to the bedroom. A bit of a pity that the pub, a hundred yards up the road, was closed. (The other one up at the crossroads was first class and dog friendly) Otherwise a cute cottage in a lovely village, in a lovely part of England.

"We had a lovely stay in the cottage, there are excellent walks from your doorstop and the kitchen is well equipped."
Downstairs is tiny with a large multi fuel stove which was most welcome due to the cold spell and an old crafty front door . The only problems we encountered was the dining table , it’s not big enough for two to comfortably eat from, the stairs are extremely steep and no washing machine for a two week stay. This was my fault for not checking in the details. when I made the booking.
The bed was very comfy and it has an excellent shower.

"I had a lovely stay at Ascot Cottage."
It was very obvious that a great deal of thought had gone into the cottage and the space available is utilised well. I would have stayed longer but it wasn’t available. The only negative is the number of steps to access the property and inside. Not suitable for anyone with mobility issues and roadside parking is not ideal but lovely nonetheless. Thank you.

"The cottage was TINY!"
Upstairs the bathroom was great, spacious with good facilities.
The bedroom, fine, lovely big bed.
As described the stairs are not easy to negotiate.
There is only room for one person in the kitchen. The lounge area should be rearranged so two people can sit at the little table and eat! Two adults and a tiny dog was not a particularly relaxing experience! So crammed!
Also there is no grass, front or back for a dog to enjoy! No garden, just tiny paved/gravel area.
As described there are a lot of steps/stairs involved in staying at Ascot Cottage.

"I think it should be made very clear that the cottage is not suitable for anyone with mobility issues."
The staircase was very difficult for my husband to navigate because he has neuropathy in his legs. The same with the steps down to the street.
I know a lot of people in England have wood burning or multi burner stoves now, but folks coming from abroad would be taken aback with the stove especially the cleaning out the ash.
Having said this, for people younger than us the cottage is delightful and has so many nice features. We were left a care package of bread, butter, jam, eggs, milk and tea/coffee-a lovely welcoming touch. The village history is fascinating and everyone we met was very friendly.

Everything you need is in there. The multi fuel fire was a nice touch to sit in front of on a chilly evening, huge bed and great bathroom. Kitchen was spot on, too. I had to work a couple of days and the Wi-Fi coped admirably.
It’s a nice village, great pub, excellent cafe/deli and neat local grocery shop. We did a couple of walks around the area, the castle is an impressive ruin. Was a bit rainy but, it was February. All in all a great little place to say for the week.

"I have stayed in many holiday cottages over the years and this is probably one of the best."
The little extra touches that the owner provides including a welcome pack of bread, butter, jam and milk amongst many others makes this cottage just that little bit extra special. Coupled with being in a lovely village not far from many beautiful places to visit and a really good local pub within walking distance, just makes this cottage have it all. Even the dog was provided for with her own towels and water bowl.
The only thing to bear in mind, which has been mentioned before, is the steep steps leading up to the cottage and also the stairs to the bedroom and bathroom and may be a problem to some. The very comfortable bed is king size and the shower room is delightful.
We very much hope to return before too long.

"A quiet and relaxing holiday in a well equipped property."
We did one or two local walks but excess to the castle ruins in the village is not allowed for obvious reasons. You will know when you see them, however you can circumnavigate them.
There are two pubs in Sheriff Hutton but the Castle Inn a few 100 yards away is now closed for the foreseeable future. The Highwayman does a really good Sunday Lunch but we didn't try the pub in the week, cooked a few meals in the cottage.
A one woman taxi service exists in the village, see the local magazine.
At the end of the road near the Highwayman is a really good cafe, it is called Quarmby's, we highly recommended it for a tasty treat and coffee. Openings, Wednesday. thought to Sunday.
The cottage was comfortable and we slept well in a large bed, there is plenty of wardrobe and draw space.
No problems with the facilities as there is a folder provided with all the information needed.
The internet and mobile signals are good. No major problems, the owner is only a text or call away and is very helpful.
I would like take this opportunity to thank her for the food, milk and beverages she provided on our arrival.
