Everything you need is provided to make your stay comfortable. Perfect location for visiting the Northumberland coast, Border towns and the hills close by. Fantastic secure garden which our wee Westie loved. Walks straight from the door. Can recommend Turnbulls in Alnwick for delicious local produce if you want to eat in. We will definitely book again, we thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

  • "On arrival the front of the property did not live up to the picture provide."

On entry things improved but the fire starter kit was non exiting 4 logs half a fire lighter and some paper this would not of lit a fire so the first thing we had to do was drive down to the local garage for logs kindling and coal though we would of done this the next day after travelling it was the last thing we wanted to do. The larger sofa in the lounge was very uncomfortable and really needs replacing the smaller sofa was fine. However, we used the main bedroom and the mattress on this bed has collapse and was very uncomfortable and we left early as we both had bad backs from it. The main bathroom was fine but the shower curtain was yellow at the bottom so need replaced or a good bleaching as it was my husband struggled with the height he is 6’ 1” so we then had to revert to using the the en-suite shower in the other bedroom, did feel quilty using 2 bathrooms but had no choice. The kitchen had everything you would need but again is very very tired looking. Saying that the cottage has a lovely cosy feel and with a little upgrading could be lovely.

Thank you for your feedback. I am very sorry you had an unhappy stay in our cottage. I do wish you had contacted me as I stated in the email I sent you on the 10th of January asking you please to contact me if you had any problems. I'm not sure quite what you meant that on arrival the front of the property does not live up to the picture provided. There is a picture provided among the photographs of the duck egg blue door and that is just what it looks like. Also, as stated in the email you could have used the other entrance if you wished. I do agree that the cottages around and about are not all not kept in good repair but there is nothing I can do about that. I don't understand about your fire starter kit. We usually leave seven logs, a handful of wooden firelighters and a handful of kindling . You shouldn't need to use paper to light a wood burner and it doesn't take coal but if you had rung or messaged me I would have brought some more straight away. I'm sorry you found the largest sofa uncomfortable. We have the same one in our house, same age bought together and my husband who is 6 foot 1 finds it very comfortable. Had you rang me I would've told you if you had a problem with the mattress which is not very old in the main bedroom to immediately move to the other double room which is a brand-new mattress bought last summer. The shower curtain was also renewed last summer so I will have to have a look at that but it could be from the peat in the water. I will renew it anyhow. The shower in the bathroom with the bathroom is only meant for girls to wash their hair with. It is not meant as a proper shower for adults. The shower to use is the en-suite shower and the other bedroom if you don't want a bath. You should not have felt guilty for using the two bedrooms; I am sure you must have noticed all the beds were made up for your use. I would've immediately told you to do that had you rang me! It is difficult for me to answer the next question of the kitchen being very tired looking. This is a country cottage and it has a country kitchen in it. All brand new 15 years ago and all repainted yearly .The carpets are all brand new and of very good quality. The cottage is decorated once a year. I would've loved it if you had contacted me and I could've talked to you about this and I certainly would've come and looked at the mattress and got you another one immediately if you were falling into the middle and also I would have told you to definitely use the other room. I do ask next time you are staying in a cottage and you are unhappy, please do get in touch with the owner. It is so soul destroying when people complain later without giving you a chance to put things right. Best Wishes The owner Property Owner

  • "Great cottage to use as a base for exploring the area, however as we came into the courtyard it looked quite scruffy, the cottage itself needs an outside light, there's obviously been one as there is wires hanging down above the front door."

The entrance into the cottage needs attention, dirty skirting boards and a filthy cream rug. The lounge and bedrooms were very comfortable. Kitchen pans needed to be washed before using and the dishwasher is a waste of time or instructions needed if it to fit plates in! Lovely garden though we never got chance to use it, would be great in the summer months. Also needs to mentioned in the listing is that the riding school is closed in the winter months, doesn't even mention this on the riding schools website, this completely spoiled our holiday plans.

I am sorry didn't enjoy your holiday due to the Riding School being closed.( I did think you would give me bad feedback because you were so cross). Nearly all of Northumberland is closed until April. I will removed the free ride from the listing i just thought it was a nice thing to do in the summer as part of your welcome gift. The dishwasher is very easy to use. You just slide the plates in upside down a quick google search would have explained or a phone call to me . There is an outside light it goes on with movement I apologise if it didn't work. I am also sorry if the rug is dirty where you come in I am afraid its winter time but i will renew it .The Lady who cleans the cottage also apologises for the skirting boards and pans I would also like to say i sent you an email a few days before telling you the Riding School was closed I also sent you a phone number of another Riding School not very far away I also said "please if there where any problems to email or text me" You did neither I would have dealt with the light rug dishwasher immediately to haver helped you enjoy your holiday. I would also say my normal payment to the cleaner was nearly double after your stay again i am sorry you didn't enjoy your holiday but hopefully if it happens again you will contact the owner. . We particularly loved the large garden, which was completely dog proof and had plenty of garden furniture. The views from the cottage were beautiful, and we enjoyed watching the hares and wild goats in the field. Everything in the cottage and garden was in good condition and spotlessly clean. However, we thoroughly enjoyed our visit at Akeld Cottage. Our only concerns were; 1. In the description of the cottage, there was no mention of the garden not being private, as one of the windows from the adjoining cottage was within the boundary of Akeld Cottage garden, which encroached on our privacy. It was a shock to see a face looking out at us. 2. Although the cottage was quaint, comfy and relatively clean, there were some areas that required attention I.e. rugs needed shampooing or replacing, Kitchen Lino was buckled in places. Having said this, the cottage was very well equipped with a brilliant Welcome Pack, comfortable beds, stunning views and beautiful area.

The cottage is warm and welcoming, very homely and comfortable. More like staying in a home than a holiday let. Rooms are very well equipped, and many thoughtful touches added by the owners to make for an enjoyable and comfortable stay. Any small problem was dealt with immediately by the very friendly and helpful owners. The only slight discomfort we experienced was the hardness of the two double mattresses, but many people prefer firm beds, so that’s just an observation, not a complaint. The setting is gorgeous with stunning countryside all around, views from the windows and gardens are inspirational, especially as I’m an artist. Staying there in autumn was perfect for me with all the beautiful colours of nature, the wildlife and many varieties of birds around the cottage and the whole area. Would return to this cottage without question. Can’t recommend highly enough.

Free horse ride was great. Cottage had good garden and lovely views but at the front where the entrance and car space was is influenced by other cottage owners. Thus, as the snow melted various large broken plastic plant pots marking lawn plots were unattractive and made driving in and out of a parking place an issue as it meant avoiding these unattractive 'scrap yard' pots. Maybe without the snow they look less of a mess. Ariel view would show the picture as does looking down from the hills.
