  • "Property is very modern, clean and in a great location."

We have stayed in this property before and would definitely stay again. some small maintenance issues: Downstairs toilet was blocked and needed replacing, but agency kept us informed and updated, and it didn't impact upon our holiday. upstairs WC seat is coming loose. water leaking from shower.

  • "Excellent location right in the middle of Amble with local shops, pubs, restaurants and harbor within two minutes walking distance."

The Harbour Inn is a good place to eat. Friendly staff and lovely food. The accommodation was fine clean tidy and everything you need for a comfortable stay. My only issue is THERE IS NO OFF STREET PARKING AS ADVERTISED and It is impossible to park in the rear lane. We were able to unpack the car before finding somewhere to park which iwas a 24hr council run car park a few streets away. It's costs £3 a day and was safe to leave the car.

  • "Fabulous location."

Nice clean comfortable property. Bed side lamp needed in front double bedroom. More info on recycling as there was no where clear to put glass. Minor things .Really enjoyable stay in a lovely place. Fantastic harbour with friendly local people.

  • "The property was very spacious and immaculately clean."

It is very well supplied with kitchen equipment etc. and comfortable furnishings. A good location for getting around that part of the country. We enjoyed visits to Bamborough and Alnwick Castles. Lindisfarne is lovely but make sure you get the tides right. Plenty of beach walks in the area. The Italian restaurant on Queens Street is very good - not cheap but you get what you pay for. The Harbour Inn also served good food. Our one gripe is the parking. We specifically chose a stay with off street parking to make life easier for my disabled husband. We found the lane in which to park but there was a white car parked there so if we parked our car in the designated place we would have blocked them in, or vice versa if we got there first. Parking on the road is not easy as locals have polite notices in their windows asking you not to park. We contemplated parking near a house once and got shouted at! We suggest you sort out the parking arrangements - who has the right of way! If parking is not an issue for future guests we would highly recommend Castaway for a holiday.

Would have been useful to have a washing machine.

  • "Lovely clean, modern holiday cottage."

Spacious, especially for the two of us. We didn’t use the ‘front room’ spending all our time in the kitchen/lounge/diner. It was warm, comfy & more sociable. We parked in the suggested space at the back of the property on two occasions, but to save reversing & moving the bins we mostly parked on a side street, or directly in front of the property when parking restrictions allowed. Very close to Amble town centre/harbour, with a choice of local shops & restaurants, and just a short drive to many interesting places. We particularly enjoyed Alnwick & Lindisfarne. Many of the tourist attractions are closed at this time of year (end of February) but we still had a really special time, without having to deal with the crowds. Couple of small things… the radiator in front double bedroom still does not work and the dinner plates are too large to fit in the dishwasher, assuming you want it to work correctly. Everything else was lovely, thank you.

  • "Lovely modern property in a great location."

This was our second stay and will definitely be back! Could park the car at the back and also spaces on the side road.

  • "Lovely unit to stay in."

Just a couple of pointers, parking information is a misnomer, impossible to park where suggested because of bins and one other cars parking. Stupid as it may seem but salt and pepper pot missing? Only one bedside lamp in three bedrooms and radiator not working in one bedroom. Noisy fridge? Other than that it was fine

We hardly used the car at all. Castaway is spacious and all very comfortable including the garden area with it's great out door comfortable seating and a real sun trap. We really enjoyed staying at the cottage.

About the location

AMBLE

Warkworth 1 mile; Alnmouth 4 miles.

The bustling little seaport of Amble is situated at the mouth of the River Coquet and is an ideal place for exploring Northumberland. Historically a centre for boatbuilding, Amble offers a marina, a harbour, sandy beaches and coastal walks to the bird sanctuary at Hauxley and country park at Druridge Bay. Large fishing boats moor along the harbour wall and land a variety of fish, prawns, crabs and lobsters. There is a fish centre on the side of the harbour that is now primarily a shell fish hatchery to re-stock levels of lobster and other shell fish, this sells local fish and is open to the public. A mile south of Amble is Coquet Island, an RSPB reserve with a large population of terns, puffins and eider ducks and boat trips around the island can be arranged. The pretty coastal villages of Alnmouth and Craster and numerous superb beaches are only a short drive away, whilst picturesque Warkworth with its castle, charming Alnwick with its castle and award-winning gardens, and the National Trust’s Wallington Hall and Cragside are all within easy reach.
