  • "Lovely rural cottage, dark sky's which allowed a stunning display of the northern lights."

The cottage was ideally situated to allow access to the north Yorkshire coast and towns along it and the Cleveland way.

  • "Lovely cottage for a break away."

More remote than originally thought. Garden size was adequate but seemed a little tired, could do with a freshen up. Shame there was no book in the cottage to leave feedback for future guests. Was upset that walked to the local pub for food only to find they hadn’t updated their website saying they didn’t do food anymore on the day of our visit there, ‘ The Falcon Inn’.

Thank you for your feedback, it is great to hear that you thought the cottage was lovely and we are going to plant some more flowering shrubs in the garden this summer to add more colour. Property Owner

It is secluded without being isolated. The owners are lovely people & always happy to guide & help if required. The cottage is lovely. Downstairs is open plan & a nice space. The garden is private & a good place to sit. The bedrooms are comfortable & well presented. Nice bath & power shower in the bathroom. Wonderful country & sea views from the bottom of the yard. Parking is off road & good. Situated just outside Scarborough & not too far from Whitby. One of my favourite places to be. Situated just inside the North Yorkshire Moors National Park. Plenty of walking & cycling including Dalby Forest close by. Enjoyed our meal at the newly restored Falcon Inn at the bottom of the road. Highly recommend, everything !!

Thank you so much for such a lovely review, it means a lot that you enjoyed your stay. We hope to see you again soon. Property Owner

Very well equipped cottage, everything you could need for your stay. Only negative for us was that the cottage is quite dark inside and we feel that if the conifers in the rear courtyard were lower this might help!

It is great to hear that you thought the cottage was lovely and well equipped and that you liked the original features. As in many traditional cottages, the windows are often smaller but to compensate for this there are numerous ceiling downlights on 2 switches for different options so the light can be bright if required. There are also additional under cupboard lights in the kitchen as well as a lamp so that the light can be tailored to suit individual preferences. Thank you for your feedback and we hope to welcome you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "Lovely cottage that had everything we needed."

Comfortable and clean and not too far from the coast. Enclosed garden at the rear made it convenient for the dogs when we were in the cottage. Quite a few pubs etc that are dog friendly in the area. Just a shame that some of the beaches do not allow dogs after 1st May. There are some that have an area for dogs but do your research. We visited a few in the area and can’t remember which ones have the area for dogs.

Thank you for your kind feedback, to is great to hear that you thought Hayloft Cottage was lovely. We hope to welcome you back to the cottage in the future and we would be happy to help with advice on dog friendly beaches. There are 2 beaches closest to the cottage at Stoup Beck and Robin Hoods Bay which do not have any restrictions and are dog friendly all year round and we can provide information on the best areas for the beaches in Whitby and Scarborough. Thank you for providing feedback on your stay. It is great to hear that you thought Hayloft Cottage was lovely with great facilities. The mattress was purchased not long ago from a local reputable company and they assured me that they had sold many of these mattresses for guest accommodation with positive feedback so I am sorry that this was not to your liking. If I had known that the lightbulb needing changing in the bathroom I could have done that straight away for you, so I apologise that this was an issue. Cottage was far more equipped than what we anticipated. The owners were great easy to get hold of and nothing to much trouble. All we would say is that the cottage would benefit from a fly curtain on the back door so you can leave the door open. This wasn’t a huge problem as we only used the cottage as a base because we were out all day and ate out mostly. Also it would benefit from some new pillows as me & my hubby found them a bit uncomfortable. However it was a great location, shame the pub (the falcon) about a mile away was closed but we ate at The Bryherstones which was a short drive and that was lovely and also stumbled upon Ravenscar tea rooms which did the best Yorkshire pasties, lovely cakes and of course Yorkshire tea!

I felt that the listing was slightly misleading as I imagined that the pictures of the views would be visible from the garden or windows of the property whereas they were not. I probably wouldn't have booked this one if I'd seen pictures of the garden, which was actually a courtyard with no grass and overgrown bushes and conifers. It wasn't nice to sit out in due to the picnic bench being uncomfortable and there being lots of flies.

Thank you for providing feedback for Hayloft Cottage. Feedback is extremely important for both owners and Sykes to ensure property standards are maintained and we are sorry to hear you had issues during your stay. Hayloft is an old cottage set within the beautiful but hilly North York Moors National Park and therefore has its own charm and character to be expected of a property of this age in this area. It is very popular with other Sykes guests due to these factors with many guests returning again. We have taken your comments on board and apologise for your issues. Property Owner
