Love the 'Great Outdoors'? Then try one of our cottages in the Mendips, a range of limestone hills and designated AONB stretching for around fifty miles between Weston-super-Mare and Frome.
Walking, climbing, mountain biking, riding, fishing, abseiling and golf are all possibilities here and the panoramic views of Salisbury Plain, Exmoor National Park and South Wales coastline take some beating. You might also consider one of the long-distance paths - the 30-mile West Mendip Way or Link Limestone Trail.
Nestling in the valleys are five historic towns, each one unique and well worth a visit. Glastonbury, famous for its Tor, Abbey and Festival; Medieval Frome; Wells with its magnificent cathedral; the 'shoe-making' town of Street (home to Clarks Village) and the rural market town of Shepton Mallet.
The valleys also reveal spectacular natural attractions both above and below ground. Make sure the caves of Wookey Hole and Cheddar Gorge with its honeycombed caverns rank high on your sightseeing list - great days out for all the family, plus a chance to buy some genuine Cheddar Gorge Cheese for tasty suppers back in your Mendips cottage!
The region is also steeped in history, with evidence of Iron Age Hill Forts, Neolithic earthworks, Roman lead mines and more.
And when it comes to events, the Mendips really know how to put on a show. From the musical extravaganza of the Glastonbury Festival and the Royal Bath & West Show to vintage car rallies, beer festivals and sheep fairs. Join in the fun and book a Mendips cottage soon!
