  • "There were a number of issues with this property, firstly is the building site right next to the house!"

All 7 days of banging, hammering, sthil sawing etc. no mention of this in the phone call from the property owner 2 days before our visit. There are caravans at the back of the property which were being used by builders during the day and also used at night, no mention of these on the listing. The property was very dusty and dirty floors, the hoover was broken so unable to use. Previous guests have left lots of dog poo all over garden. Very little logs to use fire. We have stayed in this property is years past and never has it been like this. The loud noises of a building site are not what we expected on holiday. Very dissatisfied and disappointed

The location is truly idyllic with loads of wildlife literally on the doorstep. It's a great base to explore the Ardnamurchan peninsula from. We would definitely come again!

  • "A superb house with a fantastic view out to the small isles across the bay at Portuairk."

Renovated to a really high standard, a lovely house with everything you’ll need. The driveway / parking can be a little challenging due to tight access, but you can easily park larger vehicles in the visitor car park opposite the lane to the house once you’ve unloaded. Highly recommended, owner was a lovely chap and very helpful when we spoke to him. Thank you.

Owner very helpful. We were there just before he was planning a major refurbishment of the bathroom, so it will be different to what we saw. View from the property is stunning.

  • "The arrival wasn't good."

Partly our fault in not updating the party size from 2 to 4. We required an extra set of bedding. This really seemed to upset the owner's deputy. Cooker wasn't working in week 1 and this was replaced on the middle Saturday, for which we were grateful. Some decent doormats would be an excellent addition and towel rails. (We hung our towels on our doors.) It's a great location but it does need some warmth in the customer service. A sense of hospitality wasn't there - it seems to be purely business. Sykes handled the issues well through their website.

not only you never ordered your extre laundry you never said you,re taking the dog as well so we had to phone the cleaner who live 10 miles away to take out the laundry for you Property Owner

  • "We had a super stay at Borve House."

The facilities are adequate, a few more supplies for the fireplace would be great. The fire surround could do with some tlc, and an ash bucket & spade would be good. Beds are comfy and towels lovely and fluffy. A second table or standing lamp in the living room would be good. Kitchen has almost everything, champagne flutes would be something to add and some small tea/coffee cups. Look forward to coming back again

  • "Location is stunning and we enjoyed our stay."

Thank you very much. As cottage owners ourselves we would make the following comment however. Covid should not stop you making it a bit cosier i.e. cushions, etc . It all felt a bit cold and clinical. It would have been helpful to have laminate notes on 1) how to work the TV (not all of us have smart tvs! Only managed to get BBC 1&2 on Iplayer. Weather was awful so needed it. Fortunately we brought a jigsaw with us and books. 2); laminate notes on how to work the oven (the symbols on the cooker were too small for us to read and we just could not get it working). Thankfully there is a microwave. Also a list of emergency nos would be helpful (fortunately did not need anything) i.e. Vet in particular. Disappointed there was no welcome pack for guests or their canine friends which we always provide. Couldn't find any placemats to protect the furniture.

Five stars plus for the views from the living room and deck across to the small isles. Tremendous place to relax and unwind. 8 or 9 steps to door so anyone with mobility issues would need to take note.

Binoculars/telescope are a must. The garden is fully secured for pets. Directions could be improved. From Kilchoan initially follow signs for Lighthouse then Portuairk. After the sign saying you are in Portuairk, you turn left immediately left down a track.

  • "Borve House sits in an elevated position overlooking the cove at Portuairk and has fabulous sea views towards Sanna Bay, the Small Isles and Skye."

The beach at Portuairk is lovely to explore especially at low tide when there are many rock pools. The hillside coastal walk to Sanna Bay from the cottage is stunning and Sanna Bay is a beautiful, large and quiet sandy beach. The night skies and the stars are fabulous to enjoy with no light pollution. Borve House is very dog friendly and was also very clean and Coronavirus precautions apparent which gave reassurance. Locally the Community Garden honesty shop had great fruit and veg and Ferry Stores at Kilchoan had all the supplies we needed and had good coronavirus measures in place. Overall we enjoyed a wonderful week at Borve House in this stunning and peaceful place.

Boasting an elevated position in a remote section of Lochaber, yet with the village of Kilchoan just 4 miles away, enjoy a well-earned rest with the whole family.

The views are quite something to admire, even on a cloud-covered day they stretch across Sanna Bay, over to the Isles of Eigg and Muck.

Approach the property via a single track road, where entry is gained down a set of stone steps.

Through the rear entrance is the utility, with a washing machine and tumble dryer, leading to the kitchen.

Here, you can enjoy fully fitted units and appliances, layered with neutral colour schemes.

The living room boasts sumptuous seating, where you can cosy together with your loved ones and enjoy the warmth of the open fire on a cold, wintry evening.

There is a lovely dining area for you to use each mealtime and a balcony through the French doors, enjoying the tremendous coastal views.

Completing this cottage are three bedrooms boasting a simple design, followed by a family bathroom, with a shower over the bath tub.

Outside you have the benefit of an enclosed garden, perfectly safe for the children and dogs to run around.

Ardnamurchan Point is nearby, with its commanding lighthouse, coffee shop and exhibition centre, backed by glorious landscape scenery.

Sanna Beach offers a wonderful spot to bask on golden sands and gaze out across clear blue waters to the Isle of Muck and Eigg.

For local amenities, the village of Kilchoan offers a pub, shop and a restaurant, as well as the formidable Mingary Castle nearby.

Mingary Pier also offers regular ferry trips across the Sound of Mull to Tobermory, where you can visit Mull Aquarium, Tobermory Lighthouse and the Tobermory Distillery Visitor Centre.

A wonderful choice for a base for your next holiday to the Scottish Highlands.

About the location

KILCHOAN

Tobermory 7 miles (via ferry).

The pretty village of Kilchoan is the most westerly village in mainland Britain, situated on the stunning Ardnamurchan Peninsula and surrounded by magnificent mountains and breathtaking coastal views. The area close to Kilchoan offers a choice of quiet sandy beaches and an abundance of wildlife with eagles regularly spotted overhead. Until 1900 the village was only accessible by sea, but now access is via a single track road that leads through some of the most beautiful scenery in Scotland. The village has good local services including a shop, pub, restaurant and community centre. From Mingary Pier there is a regular ferry service across the Sound of Mull to Tobermory which gives the opportunity to explore the islands of Mull and Iona. There are wildlife excursions on land and sea and the new Ardnamurchan Distillery and Natural History Centre are added attractions. A short drive away is Ardnamurchan Point complete with its own lighthouse and visitor centre which is well worth a visit, or perhaps you simply want to sit on the glorious Sanna Beach and enjoy the views across the clear blue sea to the islands of Muck, Eigg and Rum?
