  • "Three generations under the one roof and the house was a spectacular setting."

The lay out of the house provided a fantastic backdrop for the children to explore and have fun. Loads of room. The garden was exceptionally beautiful and brilliant for all to enjoy. Circular walk just right for all. Surrounding area very peaceful and beautiful. Would book again.

It had everything we needed for a wonderful family holiday. The gardens were fabulous too. Highly recommended!!

  • "Westerkirk Mains was a great place for a large multi-generational family get together."

Huge rooms, plenty of space, and lots of light. My (almost adult) children loved rushing round when we first got there having 7 bedrooms to choose from. We never even used one of the lounges. Everyone was impressed by the enormous oak (?) oval table in the dining room and it made me think of Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table - the table was old but not that old!! The grounds were beautiful even though - inevitably - squelchy in a wet February. The views from many of the windows were superb. I loved standing at the back door of the house in the dark and listening to the Esk rushing past. As the owner knows, one boiler serving such a large house is going to struggle when its cold, and for the first few days we were there, hot water didn't reach all the radiators in the large lounge or blue bedroom immediately above it. But the owners had provided space heaters so we were able to keep the house warm. After 3 to 4 days, the house really heated up and the space heaters became superfluous. The dishwasher wasn't brilliant. But on the plus side, the set up for handwashing was great - two sinks side by side and two draining boards. The kitchen was really well stocked with everything you could think of for food preparation. For one of our meals we did homemade pizza for all - normally this is a problem because you can only cook 2 or 3 pizzas at a time, but the house had 2 kitchens and 3 ovens, and simply loads of baking trays, so we were all served simultaneously. It was a lovely house in a great area. Stunning scenery.

  • "Had a lovely weekend celebrating mum's 80 th birthday with family and friends."

The garden grounds were amazing and the kids with us loved the play area and paddling in the river. So much freedom for them and no technology required. The three sitting rooms meant that we could have a children's space, space for the middlies and a grand sitting room for the more elderly in our party. Fantastically comfortable beds too. Mum says it's the best birthday she's ever had.

  • "This a fabulous house with spectacular gardens, it was the outdoor space that made this holiday (and the good weather helped)."

Downstairs bedroom and bathroom was a bonus and great for the less mobile. The only remark was to fit a handle/rail for the toilet, but the shower itself was perfect. Jackie (owner) made sure we knew to contact if there were any issues, but there were none.

Would love to be there in high summer - we visited just after the country had been battered by tremendous rain and flooding. Lovely rural location.

  • "We thorougly enjoyed our week at Westerkirk Mains."

The family loved the house and the flexibility it offered: spaces for everyone. We also appreciated the outside space which was well used by the young people and enjoyed meeting Mrs Morris and learning a bit about the property. Having the ASDA delivery was great and did make life easier. We have never been disappointed in an LHH house.

  • "We thoroughly enjoyed our stay."

The house was very comfortable and, despite the poor weather, was always warm. Equally important was that we found it a very practical house with a large vestibule for the wet clothes and muddy boots and three different sitting rooms to accommodate the different activities you might expect considering that there were 14 of us with an age range from 2 to 72!! All in all an excellent property which we would thoroughly recommend to anyone. I should also say that I have been very pleased with everything that LHH have done in managing our booking. Thanks for your help and don?t be too surprised if you hear from us again!

  • "Great place for a family holiday of 14 - age range 6 to 70+."

Very comfortable and well equipped. Lots of outdoor space for games, with climbing frame, trampoline and badminton net, plus table tennis and pool table in the garage. House well supplied with board games and books. Piano (in tune!) with a lovely tone was played by most of us. 2 TV's but no time for them! Walk by the river productive of raspberries & gooseberries with beautiful specimen trees of various kinds. Beautiful walks up the Meggat Water valley and wild life to see. Plenty of training runs for the more athletic and quiet roads for cycling. This is an ideal situation for those who enjoy the outdoors. Jackie was very helpful and accommodating and the 'welcome gifts' were most appreciated.

  • "We were delighted with Westerkirk Mains , so beautifully and comfortably furnished and with an amazing amount of equipment in the kitchen!"

We had a really good week celebrating our Diamond wedding with our children and grandchildren, who all seemed to think we should come again! The house was comfortably warm at all times , though we would have loved to have an open fire in the sitting room! The piano was appreciated by our three teenage grandsons who all play. Nearby neighbours might have also have heard one of them on the bagpipes - my special treat! We all loved watching the lambs and the splendid isolation of the property.

  • "We were a party of 12 who had the most amazing time at this property."

The house was warm and welcoming when we arrived to celebrate my 50th Birthday. The bedrooms accommodated all our party well and my guests all commented on how comfortable the beds were. The house was furnished with everything you could possibly need and the grounds were amazing. We held an "Old School Sports Day" in the garden for my birthday and enjoyed walks along the river each day. All in all we had such an enjoyable and relaxing week in the most beautiful setting. The owner was very accommodating and we shall definitely be back. Thank you also to LHH for making this booking such an easy process.

  • "Had a wonderful week celebrating our Dad's 60th birthday!"

The grounds were perfect for the sports day we organised for the kids. The large lounge was just the right size for our quiz night. Had some lovely walks and a nice visit out to Langholm. Kids loved being able to play freely in the grounds day and night, particularly the trampoline and pool table/ping pong table. Adults loved being able to relax and enjoy a few drinks together. Lovely week had by all. Gorgeous house and surroundings!
