  • "We had another excellent week at the cottage."

It was immaculate and spotlessly clean, all the appliances worked well, the beds were very comfortable and the owner kindly left us some refreshments to have on arrival which was much appreciated. Everything was perfect and the wonderful sea view from the terrace will stay with us until our next visit. Thank You.

  • "Fantastic cottage, really spectacular location with amzing views, Cottage had everything we needed, and even a nice welcome pack."

There were 4 adults, and we had plenty of room for all of us. The walk down was quite hard, but the alternate route down the sea front and over the bridge was musc easier and quicker. Some reviews complain about main TV in living room, but we had no issues,. Excellent value for money, will definately return again.

  • "The location is amazing, overlooking the sea and train line and just a short walk from pubs, cafes and train station."

We stayed in the cottage next door a few years ago so were aware of the access to the property being down a ramp, steps and a narrow path but its worth it once you get your gear to the cottage. The sea front walkway is now fully open so over the bridge and few steps down will get you on there and it’s a short level walk to the centre, easier than going back up the slope. The things I will mention below did not affect our holiday but for the owner there are a couple of things to be looked and if no-one mentions them then the owner cannot sort it out. There are numerous bulbs out throughout the property, I'm happy to change a bulb in a lamp but these were spotlights, too high to reach without a stepladder. The handle has been snapped off the cupboard where the fridge is meaning you have to try and put your hand up underneath to grab the door of the freezer. Others have pulled at the door and caused the door to come away at the bottom. If I had a spanner and screwdriver I would have simply switched a handle from one of the other cupboards. The T.V in the living room does need updating or even just a DVD player put in front room. After a day of walking we like to watch a film but with basic T.V we ended up watching upstairs in the bedroom which meant we didn't make much use of the front room. We loved our stay and would definitely visit again, its just a shame its an 8-9 hour drive from newcastle!

7 let us use their outside shower as your outside shower didn’t work either. As you can imagine hygiene is very important and after watching endless YouTube videos to try reset the boiler, we just gave up, so thank god the neighbours were so friendly and accommodating. • "We loved it here!"

The views of the sea and railway line are fantastic (and one of the main reasons we chose here). We didn't use much of the kitchen equipment but it looked as though everything needed was available (we couldn't find the freezer though). We used the bedroom with the wardrobe. Found the pillows to be a little too hard, but that's possibly down to our preference. We would echo a previous review about the TV in the living room being outdated but this wasn't a major issue for us. The on road parking (Elm Grove Road) was ok for us, but I can imagine it would be difficult in busier months. After speaking to a holidaymaker next door, they had a resident's permit available to them, maybe this could be looked into for future guests? All in all, this is a great place to stay and if we're looking to stay in this area again we would definitely want to book here.

Thanks for the feedback Samantha, it is appreciated as it helps us know what is important for our guests. The freezer is next to the fridge, everything is built in so it looks like a cupboard, the washing machine is the same. We have installed smart TVs in both the bedrooms and will look into a new one for downstairs over the winter. The residents parking permits are only available to permanent residents, when I asked I was told by the church (who provide them) that this was the case. Overall though, it sounds like you enjoyed your stay, so that's lovely to hear. Hope to see you back in the future. Best wishes, Anna and Georgios Property Owner

  • "This is the second time we have been here, and perhaps not the last!"

The cottage is extremely clean, warm, and comfortable, with amazing sea views. It is also very spacious, with a well appointed kitchen, no need to dash to the takeaway, just make it up as you go along. Then sit and enjoy the fruits of your labour in the dining room overlooking the sea, or outside on the patio. The main problem with this cottage is that you will definitely not want to leave it! Lots of love to Anna and George for an amazing holiday. Robert and Elizabeth, Wiltshire.

Thank you Robert and Elizabeth for such positive comments, and for choosing to visit us a second time. So pleased to hear you enjoyed your week, even with the icy weather! Property Owner

  • "We had an excellent week at 8 Coastguard Cottages."

The property was immaculate and well equipped. We loved watching the world go by from the patio and, on occasions, watching the waves lashing over the new sea wall. We travelled to Dawlish by train and found this an excellent location for going out on train trips during our stay. We visited Exeter, Okehampton, Teignmouth, Torquay, Paignton, Dartmouth and Totnes. There is a lovely walk along the coast from outside the cottages into Dawlish Warren. The local buses also stop on the main road adjacent to the cottages and run regularly late into the evening. We were aware of the steps down to No.8 but would recommend to others they take a small torch if planning to stay out after dark as part of the path was unlit.

Thank you so much for your positive feedback, I'm so pleased you enjoyed your stay. It is a wonderful spot and the sea has something different to offer every day. Regarding the lighting I will speak to the other owners and see if we can sort some better lighting for the path. Property Owner

  • "Great property, comfortable with four adults and two children ,although bedrooms a little tight with double beds and draw units etc, may struggle with six adults tbh."

Upon arriving I was expecting an en-suite as two bathrooms were advertised, although it does clearly state that one is located outside, which I would imaging would be a little chilly in the winter months, and tbh I must have missed when booking, so beware. Ideally suited to a family as opposed to six friends/three couples. lovely balcony/terrace to sit out in the sun ,some walls could do with repainting too.Trains frequent but tbh don't really bother you as you get use to them, cracking views and very lovely neighbours at no 7.Also take note of the parking and access instructions, they are clear enough to follow, but parking is very limited in the side roads and whilst unloading/loading luggage/food etc I would reccommend smaller lighter bags, and more trips than large heavy boxes and cases as the amount of steps and walking required is quite tiring, if like me you are not the fittest person around, all in all a lovely week.

Thank you for your feedback; it is always really helpful for us to see where we can improve. Lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay and the beautiful views! It does clearly state in the description that the second bathroom is an outside shower room and is generally used in the summer when people come off the beach. Again, the parking is clearly stated in the description and we completely understand it is not the easiest as we have spent time living at the cottage but it is well worth it when you get down and, as you say, travelling light is the way to go. We have now made a recommendation to Sykes that they limit the number of adults to 5 in view of the fact that one of the beds is against the wall and it is difficult to manoeuvre if two adults were sleeping in there. We will be painting the walls at the end of the season as it is very difficult to get workmen down with all their equipment during the summer when there are lots of bookings. Property Owner

  • "I think that the cottage itself is lovely but access to it for loading and unloading really should be highlighted as it is quite demanding even for me who i class as relatively fit."

Unfortunately with the sea wall being under complete reconstruction this means that there is no easy way to get into Dawlish other than using the steep steps and slope back onto the main road that you have to use to load / unload your stuff. Also with no parking you have to then park on the pavement blocking pedestrians to do this or you have to try and park opposite up the hill which makes it even more awkward.

Thank your review. We would like to make clear that the sea wall works are now complete and the description mentions the parking is roadside, but this does not denote a personal space outside the property. Property Owner

The only negative was the builders on the construction on the sea front started work at 5.30am in the morning and didn't finish till 1am the next morning. With the weather so warm the windows were open so not very good nights sleep. This wouldn't of been a problem if they started at 7am and finished no later than 11pm. Other than this issue cottage was lovely and the view was fantastic.

The bedrooms are small but we knew this and it didn’t cause any problems the beds are very comfy. The 2 showers were good and very handy to have the downstairs one after a swim. The views are amazing and could not be beaten anywhere . The sea is 2 mins away perfect for a swim. The trains never kept us awake even with windows open. We got parked a 5 min walk away , and yes there are some steps and a bit of a hill to get to the cottage but it is worth it . We would stay again .
