  • "Tigh Bhisa is a wonderful base from which to explore Lewis and Harris."

It is centrally situated and easily reached from Stornaway and Leverburgh depending on which ferry you arrive on. Arriving to a selection of delicious sweet treats and local music playing set the tone for a marvellous stay. The cottage was immaculately clean and beautifully furnished and equipped. The owners have obviously put a great deal of thought and effort into providing local information, history, books and dvds. We were incredibly lucky with the weather in early May and found the cottage warm through the underfloor heating. The option to use the wood burner, with fuel provided, was welcome, although we didn’t need it. An excellent selection of towels were provided, including lovely big ones, such a luxury! The super king sized bed was wonderfully comfortable. As mentioned in the property information the shower is ‘compact’ but perfectly manageable for a week’s stay. It was lovely to sit out in the garden and drink in the view, whilst watching the birds nesting in the cottage walls come and go. Tigh Bhisa is one of the best holiday cottages we have ever stayed in and we’d love to return some day!

  • "Tigh Bhisa Blackhouse is a first rate accommodation."

The original blackhouse has an addition that houses the kitchen, bath and entry hall that allows for the original building to be a commodious great room and bedroom. There are added skylights that make it a bright space and a wood stove making it cosy. There are some wonderful design elements that make it most unique. The kitchen is well appointed with dish ware and utensils and was a large, efficient workspace. Two niggling points. The infloor radiant heat worked well to heat the bedroom and kitchen/bath addition but the great room was on the cool side. I did use the wood stove to make the space comfortable but it still was falling short unless the fire was well stoked. The second is the bathroom shower. It is a corner triangular unit that is quite small. I’m 6 feet and 180 pounds and the space was barely manageable. A note to larger guests; it may rule out a stay at this listing.

Good morning Roger and apologies for my delay in responding. Thank you for your feedback. The shower issue is very valid, for large guests and those with mobility problems. We did use to have this small shower cubicle highlighted for just that reason but it somehow was lost when we moved from LHH to solely Sykes. It’s something we just can’t rectify but I have made sure the ‘compact’ size is obvious in the cottage description again. Thank you for noticing this omission. I’ve investigated the cool temperature in the main living space. Good that you used the stove but we’ve checked the boiler and upped the thermostat. Thank you again. Justin Property Owner

  • "A well presented, equipped and clean cottage."

The property has a unique history and character and the welcome tea was a nice touch. Comfortable bed and living accommodation. Kitchen well stocked with crockery and cookware etc. The Cottage is well situated to allow day visits on both Lewis and Harris. Also the wood burning stove was most welcome in the evenings during a spell of rather chilly weather.

  • "A beautiful cottage in a beautiful setting."

After my ferry was 2 hours late, I arrived at the cottage on a dark, dreich & windy night hoping that the heating was on, only to arrive into the most welcoming wee cottage with the lamps & fire on, and the radio playing softly in the background. If I could have designed a cottage for a relaxing stay, this would have been it. It's comfy, clean and the attention to detail is spot on. I hope to return soon :)

  • "Everything about the cottage was perfect for 2 people."

Clean, warm, comfy, well equipped. We have holidayed in Scotland all our lives but never managed to reach Lewis and Harris. What a week we chose! We celebrated our Pearl wedding this month and the weather was fantastic. Never been on so many beautiful and clean beaches. Even swam at Horgabost and Huisinis Brilliant. Watched eagles. Cottage is really well situated to allow day visits on both Lewis and Harris. Thanks for a great holiday.

  • "We stayed at "Tigh Bhisa" 23rd May 2009 for a week."

What a wonderful, relaxing off the beaten track gem. The views from the dining table and fire are superb. Laura and Justin are very helpful. We loved the cook's kitchen, underfloor heating to a name a few of the best bits. There is plenty of seating and the local walks are great. It was at times hard to pull yourself away from such a place. Ruth and Phil

  • "This place is absolutely wonderful for a relaxing, restful, beautiful place to be."

The cottage manages to be cosy and yet spacious; has a beautiful wood-and-peat fire that you can enjoy any time you want; and when you open your front door you're looking right out to the sea. You're only a few minutes away from the Callenish Stones, and everywhere else is really easy to get to also. Justin and Laura leave a binder full of all the information that you could possibly need, right down to a mechanic if something goes wrong with your car (which happened to me). There's also a lot of info about the island so you don't have to do any research beforehand, just sit down with the binder and read through all the leaflets and travel info! It's the perfect location in so many ways. If you want peace and beauty and a location that is both close to everything and yet secluded at the same time, this is the place. Couldn't recommend it higher.
