  • "Lovely comfortable cottage."

    Quiet and peaceful, top notch furnishings, comfortable bed, fully equipped kitchen, with all you could possibly want. immaculately clean, enclosed garden for the dog, easy check in. Fabulous grounds to walk around with lovely views. A long rather rough track up to the cottage, (potholes) which needs attention and perhaps a sensor light near where your car is parked, if you come in after dark, it's pitch black until you walk around the back,but minor things, the cottage itself we couldn't fault. Definitely recommend it, we shall be back!

  • "I can only echo the review left by Jacqueline for Skipper."

    Our holiday was absolutely ruined by the building work that is ongoing right next to Skipper. Constant loud noise all day from heavy construction plant and many skip fires that blew smoke all over the garden. In addition the workers arrived at 7am in the morning and parked behind the gates, slamming doors and waking us up. There are see through gates where they park, so our privacy was also compromised. We only read Jacqueline’s review during the holiday and had no warning from either the owners or Sykes that this was happening, although clearly it has been going on a while. I feel the owners are morally corrupt, actually making the cottage available during a period when they know there are obtrusive works going on. Despite complaining three times during the holiday, neither the noise nor the skip fires ceased. We also complained to Sykes, who were of no real help, citing the fact that the contract is with the vendor and not with them. There is no mediation service. The only recourse left open to me to gain some kind of recourse is to go to the small claims court, but my wife and I have decided to draw a line on it and not spend any more precious time on this matter. So the big guys win again. I just hope that others read this before booking or taking their holiday and hopefully it will save someone from the same horrible experience that we have had.

Property easy to find brilliant gastro pub at end of the road food and service excellent Stayed with very elderly mum husband and dog for sons graduation , dog friendly as in 120 acres of grounds lots of walks 3 large double bedrooms beds super comfortable . I would highly recommend and would definitely stay again Property Owner

  • "***BE AWARE THERE IS BUILDING WORK GOING ON ON SITE*** This was our second stay at Skipper."

    We were there last autumn and thought we’d go back when the weather was better (who were we kidding?). Having had a wonderfully peaceful stay in beautiful surroundings we expected the same but were sadly disappointed. There is major building work around the hall itself but all of the heavy machinery and vehicles are kept just to the left of Skipper and the noise of them trundling back and forth was horrendous. It started at 7am and didn’t let up until 5pm. As if this wasn’t bad enough there were a couple of skip fires so we had to keep the doors and windows closed. Also one night a van turned up, parked directly facing the garden with its headlights blazing in on us. We had a glorious 48 hours between Friday night and Monday morning when work stopped and all of the animals began to emerge. We had taken almonds and walnuts for the squirrels and it didn’t take long before they were tapping on the patio doors to be fed, the rabbits and pheasants came out from hiding and we even spotted a few deer. We discovered that there are a couple of truly free range chickens which rocked up at the garden gate and in no time they were eating out of our hands. Sadly the diggers and dump trucks started up again at 7am Monday morning and we had no choice but to leave.

    There was some site clearance works not building works going on to the rear. The 200 acre grounds at the front of hall were free to explore, as were the tables, and gardens, well away for this works. When we were informed we immediately requested the contractors to stop work. On Monday we informed the contractors not to start work until 10am. This was discussed with you, and a third guest staying with you. You accepted our apologies, and did not leave as you indicate. Here is a feed back from another cottage to put your comments into context. Mr Gary Acton 12/07/2024 ... 15/07/2024 1154049 Comment On arrival we instantly felt at home , the grounds were beautiful & much better than the description given , the drive up the track to the cottage was amazing with views to die for ! I was amazed at how clean the cottage was , as if if it was just built , the cleaning staff did a wonderful job ! The fixtures & fittings were also of a much better standard than described & we could not find fault with anything , having 200 acres of grounds to wander made it extra special ! Only a short drive from a good selection of shops & supermarkets & places of interest ! We didn't venture far over our 3 day stay as we didn't need to as we're nature lovers , from the hares running across the lawns to the roe deer grazing . This is a real credit to the owners & is a real hidden Gem , we can't recommend it highly enough ! Don't just take our word for it " GO & STAY " ! Property Owner

The historic city of Lancaster sits on edge of Morecambe Bay, the sea is barely 3 miles away. Equally, Lancaster is perfect if you’re looking to explore the Lake District, Windermere is just 30 miles away.

The tidal River Lune flows through the city and St George’s Quay, with its elegant Georgian warehouses standing eave to eave on the riverfront, is considered to be the finest example of an original 18th Century port anywhere in the country.
