  • "We had a very relaxing stay at Seaspray and the location was spot on for taking our cocker spaniel Holly for a walk on the beach."

The water pressure was a little frustrating but we knew about it from previous comments and it did not spoil our stay.

Thankyou for your positive feedback..l am so glad you enjoyed your stay in this special place in Cumberland.A plumber is coming in November to try and find a solution for the water pressure Property Owner

  • "This was the second time we stayed in this house for 2 weeks."

The house was very clean and very spacious for 2 people. It is well equipped with everything you need. The small garden is very nice and you can see the sea and our dog also felt very comfortable there. The beds were very comfortable and the bed linen smelled nice and fresh. The village is about a 10 minute walk where there are restaurants and pubs and the large car park was great for us as we drive a mini van. When our holiday plans for next summer are finalised, we will book this house again. best regards from Switzerland

  • "We had a lovely week at Seaspray, it was great being so near the beach."

Very well equipped property and being next to the car park was fine… always something going on. Had a meal in Seacote Hotel which was nice pub grub and also had food at Hartleys cafe which was tasty and very reasonably priced. Would definitely recommend Seaspray to family and friends. Only negative would be the bath mat, it dosent adhere to the bottom of the bath properly so take care when climbing in and out for a shower. I had the same one at home and replaced it with a rubber one. Would we return to Seapray??? Absolutely ❤️

  • "There was mould along the rear wall, in the main bedroom."

There was a stain & odour of dogs urine in the room. The hot water tap had no pressure. Faulty cold bath tap. Soiled crockery & cutlery in the cupboards. There was dust almost everywhere.sand and rubbish down the sides of the very low sofa. Rust to the bin and stools in the kitchen. I’m sure that the advert stated a king size bed. This was incorrect, it’s a double bed in a small room, claustrophobic due to colours on the walls and size. (Pictures to prove this) we left this property much, much cleaner than what we found it. Pegs on the line broke when you tried to use them, because they had been left outside all year around. No clear guidance to what could be put in the household bin, outside. The property is on the edge of the car park where there is a large section for the purpose of recycling. This is not captured on the pictures or documented. Positives : the location of the property is superb. Good base for seeing lots around the area and Lake District. The property has a lot of potential which could improve experience of stay. I guess it is up to different persons standards and expectations but for the money that the weeks rental cost, we expected much better.

I am very sorry that this was not up to your expectations and would like to address each complaint and tell you what will be done about the problems. After visiting, I agree that there is a small amount of mould in the corner of the bedroom.I was unaware of this and will repaint with anti mould paint. You said there was a stain on the carpet and a smell of dog urine. In the visitors book I do ask guests not to allow dogs into the bedrooms but this is impossible to police. I am planning on removing the carpets and continuing the Karndean flooring into both bedrooms. You mention the low water pressure .This has always been a problem as the hot water tank is on the same level as the bathroom. All six properties at Bay View have the same problem. A design fault at time of building. Ideally a combination of boiler would be much better but as there is no gas supply in that area of St Bees this is not possible. I have asked a plumber to investigate and the likelihood is that a pump could be fitted to increase the pressure.I am told however that these are very noisy but I cannot think of another solution.I have forwarded your complaints to my caretaker Alison who will endeavour to keep the property clean. In her defence however I would say she only has from 1000am until 1500 to clean and that is if guests leave on time. The property has been fully booked since 24th February up until October 13th so far. This does not allow for a time consuming deep clean until winter.I live 150 miles away so cannot just pop in to address problems. You mention the problem of rust on the bin and stools. I replaced the bin last year as I had a plastic bin and will return that and remove the better quality bin to solve the problem. The proximity to the sea and the salty air means all metal rusts much faster than inland properties. You are clearly unhappy with the low level sofa but there are 2 higher tub chairs to use. You also state that the colour in the bedroom is not to your liking. These are personal preferences and a lot of guests have commented on how much they like the colour. Im afraid this is a case of not being able to please all of the people all of the time. The photo of the bedroom on the Sykes description clearly shows the colour. Also the description about the bed sizes is correct so you must have misinterpreted that information. I will provide new pegs and locate them in the house. There is no information about bin collection as I do not expect guests to deal with this. Alison puts the bin out on the relevant days. I will however make this clear in the visitors book. Regarding the recycling behind the property, I would like to increase the height of the wall to hide it , but a covenant on the house prevents me from doing this. Given the long list of complaints you have raised I was surprised to see the favourable comments you made in the visitors book. Property Owner

My husband had misread the shower over the bath , so neither of us could use the shower ,I've just had a knee replacement in February and my husband has mobility issues. Our 2 dogs jumped the wall in the garden whilst my husband was sitting with them in the garden ,so couldn't risk them out there by themselves. The beach was another problem for us ,no steps only a slope ,which I'm sure other people wouldn't find a problem. We did find another beach which was good Moose and Daisy loved it on there ,think it was called Sea Scale .Found a brilliant chippie called Noah's plaice ,the fish was lovely the portions were big ,we could have shared one portion of Fish Chips and Peas between us .It's still a lovely place and bungalow ,just not for us but if your able bodied and love walking this is the place for you xx Sue ,Steve ,Moose and Daisy xx

The property being next to the beach car park wasn't an issue as it empties late afternoon and wasn't noisy at all plus there is outside seating on two sides of the property so you can sit in the front and take in view of the countryside or you can people watch from the side garden as they bring their paddle boards and kayaks to the beach. We would definitely go back .It was also a bonus being able to make a grocery order online with the wi fi being available .We had a lovely stay and would definitely recommend the property .

About the location

ST BEES

Whitehaven 5 miles.

St. Bees is an historic seaside village on the west coast of Cumbria with a Norman priory and Elizabethan public school, as well as a shop, post office and old traditional pubs. It's an ideal base for exploring the western Lake District and Cumbrian coast, and is the start of the famous Wainwright coast to coast walk. St. Bees Head is the only major sea cliff between Wales and Scotland and is the only Heritage coastline in Cumbria. There is a fine beach and many wonderful walks are available along the clifftops, which are also home to one of England’s most important seabird colonies. There is also a nine-hole golf course in the village. Nearby Whitehaven, an elegant Georgian port, and the spectacular western Lakes, are more than worthy of a visit. Muncaster Castle is 8 miles away, as is the Eskdale and Ravenglass miniature railway. Cockermouth, the birth place of Wordsworth, and Keswick on Derwentwater are also within easy driving distance.
