Just Show Me Tideswell Cottages
Six miles east of Buxton, the pretty stone village of Tideswell sits high on a limestone plateau in the Peak District National Park. It's an ideal place for a quiet, relaxing break with great walks from your Tideswell cottage door.
The village dates from Saxon times and you'll find lots of interesting buildings as you wander the narrow streets. Pride of place goes to the Church of St. John the Baptist, known locally as the 'Cathedral of the Peak' due to its size and beauty and featuring some fine carved tombs and intricate wood carvings. Look out for Bagshaw Hall in Market Place, built as Oddfellows Hall, then transformed into a dance hall, a cinema and now a lovely private home.
You'll find everything you need within easy reach of your Tideswell cottage - traditional pubs serving food, a couple of cafés, small shops catering for all your holiday essentials, not to mention a fantastic local bakery offering homemade goodies including Derbyshire oatcakes and secret-recipe pork pies.
Highlight of the events' calendar is Tideswell Wakes Week in June, with Well Dressings, Morris dancing, torch-lit parades and more. And do watch out for local listings of choral concerts by the Tideswell Male Voice Choir, renowned across the country.
Local underground attractions include Bagshaw Cavern and Eldon
Hole. Or stay above ground and walk or cycle the Monsal Trail - the
scenery all around is absolutely breathtaking. The Peak District offers
visitors an array of activities include fantastic hiking and
mountain biking for those who want to enjoy the outdoors on their
cottage holiday.
So take some time out in one of our loveliest National Parks and book a Tideswell cottage soon!
