Bakewell Cottages

Just show me Bakewell Cottages

Famous for its scrumptious, calorie-laden pudding and home to a number of Bakewell cottages, this attractive market town nestles in the Peak District National Park and is an extremely popular tourist destination.

Monday is market day when the streets come alive with stallholders, locals and visitors. There's a monthly farmers' market too, as well as a farmers' market shop - open daily and a great place to stock up with provisions for your Bakewell cottage.

Bakewell is full of attractive courtyards and streets lined with independent shops, all sorts of places to eat and drink and many fine buildings. There's the old Market Hall (home of Tourist Office), Bath House and Gardens, the Church of All Saints and the Old House Museum, featuring costume exhibitions, a Victorian kitchen, toys and a peculiar story on display about an elephant said to be buried in town!

The legendary Bakewell Pudding

For a deliciously sweet treat, seek out the town's three pudding shops, all of which claim to have the original recipe for the legendary Bakewell Pudding - it's easy to burn off calories with an exhilarating hike in the National Park! Many of our Peak District cottages have stunning views of the peak district landscape, it's rolling hills and quiet streams are spectacular to wake up to in the morning.

What else? Enjoy riverside walks by day and ghost tours by night. Look out for Holme Bridge, once used by packhorses. View all sorts of motorbikes at the M&C Collection of Historic Motorcycles. And don't forget Bakewell is just a short drive from two historic gems - the medieval and Tudor manor house of Haddon Hall and Chatsworth House, one of the UK's best-loved estates and an absolute must on everyone's Bakewell cottage holiday!
