Just show me Northumbria Cottages
If you could bring a holiday wish list to life, what would it
be? Family escapes to the seaside? Exploring glorious countryside?
Getting close to nature? Discovering historic treasures? A holiday
in a Northumbria cottage allows you to do all these things and
more...
(Before we continue, you may wonder why we are promoting
'Northumbria' as a holiday destination - after all, it no
longer exists! In years gone by, it was a British kingdom
stretching from the Humber to Edinburgh and today the county of
Northumberland takes its name from it. Just a handful of local
bodies retain the original name, including the Northumbria Police
and the Northumbria University in Newcastle. Thanks to artistic
licence, we also prefer to use this ancient name when describing
Northumberland as we firmly believe it's a much better way to
describe this wonderfully romantic region.)
And how romantic it is! A heavenly blend of divine beaches,
castles and villages stretch along Northumbria's breathtaking
Heritage Coast, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Don't
miss the extraordinary walled town of Berwick-upon-Tweed. The
splendid castles of Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh and Warkworth. Gorgeous
seaside settlements like Craster and Low-Newton-by-the-Sea. The
Holy Island of Lindisfarne. Wildlife watching around the Farne
Islands. Walk the Northumberland Coast Path or St. Oswald's
Way. Cycle the Coast and Castles Route. Or canter along miles of
golden beaches.
Head inland and find the ever-changing landscapes of the
Northumberland National Park. Dark sweeping skies just made for
stargazing. Hadrian's Wall, a World Heritage Site adorned with
fortresses and archaeological sites. Explore the North Pennines, a
protected area of velvet moors and picturesque dales. Roam wild
Redesdale. Or discover the stunning Kielder Water & Forest
Park, a haven for mountain bikers and water sports'
enthusiasts. Visit delightful towns like Morpeth and Rothbury. And
don't forget Alnwick Castle (or Hogwarts to Harry Potter fans)
and The Alnwick Garden, brimming with extraordinary features.
Wherever you go, wherever you stay, holidaying in a Northumbria
cottage will have your wish list bursting with life!
