Just show me Ambleside Cottages
In the heart of the Lake District on the northern shores of
Windermere, Ambleside is a vibrant town offering everything the
visitor could wish for, including a fine range of shops and eating
and drinking venues. Our Ambleside cottages are ideal for a rural
escape or an adventure-packed holiday.
Think spectacular scenery and fantastic activities. Ambleside is
the gateway to miles of wonderful walking routes for all abilities,
from classic treks over fells or up the rugged slopes of the
Langdale Pikes to gentle strolls around the lake.
Or test your stamina with some high level mountain biking such
as the circular tour of Loughrigg Fell, promising mesmerising views
over Grasmere and Rydal Water.
Head for Waterhead and enjoy lots of fun on the water - sailing,
canoeing, fishing etc. Soak up the views with a leisurely trip
aboard a lake steamer, feed the ducks, have a lakeside picnic - the
choice is yours!
Ambleside also has an interesting artistic and literary
heritage, best explored through visits to local galleries and the
Armitt Museum & Library, offering all kinds of exhibits and
information from Roman times to the present day. Wander around
Ambleside's historic streets and look out for Bridge House, a
tiny yet iconic landmark managed by the National Trust. There's
also evidence of a Roman fort near Waterhead and a pretty parish
church.
Other attractions close to your Ambleside cottage include Stock
Ghyll Force, Stagshaw Gardens, Rydal Hall and Rydal Mount, where
Wordsworth lived and created many of his famous works.
