The old village of Embleton sits amid an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, close to astonishing beaches and impressive castles.

Walk to the sweeping dune-backed sands of Embleton Bay and join the coastal path. Go south past the wooden beach huts and look out for the mystical 'vanishing rock' as you head for Dunstanburgh Castle. Take time to explore the castle's ruins and soak up the views; then continue on to the tiny fishing village of Craster, world-famous for sensational kippers!

Or go north from Embleton Bay, through picturesque Low Newton-by-the-Sea (where there's a good local watering hole) and on past Beadnell Bay, Beadnell village until you reach Seahouses, gateway to the Farne Islands - a paradise for puffins and seals.

What's more, you can see all this and more by pedal power too, along the Coast and Castles Cycle Route.

Golfing is another reason to choose an Embleton holiday cottage, with the 18-hole links of Dunstanburgh Castle Golf Club a stone's throw away, not to mention numerous other gems within a short drive. Playing on fairways next to the sea is a magical experience.

Other ways to spend a day include fishing, sandcastle building, rock pooling, windsurfing, bird-watching - or doing nothing at all! Add a myriad of nearby attractions like Alnwick Castle and The Alnwick Garden and it's no wonder this beautiful corner of England has such a following.
