Just show me Grasmere Cottages
'The loveliest spot that man hath ever found', said
William Wordsworth of the picturesque vale of Grasmere. With fells
and mountains forming a magnificent backdrop, our Grasmere cottages
nestle in the heart of the Lake District National Park.
The popular tourist village of Grasmere is the ideal base to
experience the very best of romantic Lakeland, awash with shops,
galleries and welcoming eateries. Look out for Sarah Nelson's
Original Gingerbread Shop (there's usually a queue outside!)
and the Heaton Cooper Studio for local art.
Start with the lakeside path around the south-western shore of
Lake Grasmere. Loughrigg Terrace is a great low level walk, while
classic fell walks from the village include Fairfield Horseshoe and
Helm Crag. Or enjoy a gentle riverside stroll from Broadgate Meadow
to St. Oswald's Church, site of Wordsworth's grave.
Learn more about his life at Dove Cottage featuring guided
tours, a small museum and art gallery, and at nearby Rydal Mount
& Gardens, where his family lived for 37 years. Do also explore
the gardens of Rydal Hall, residence of the influential Le Fleming
Family.
Grasmere's associations with Wordsworth and other famous
artists and writers inspire every visitor and it makes perfect
sense for the village to play host to the annual Lakeland
Artists' Society Exhibition. If you're interested, you
might like to plan your Grasmere cottage holiday around this event.
Other unique attractions include Taffy Thomas's Storytelling
Garden and Barney's Newsbox stocking every kind of jigsaw
imaginable!
Lots of reasons to book a Grasmere cottage soon!
