Just show me Coniston Water Cottages

Natural beauty abounds when you book a Coniston Water cottage! Welcome to one of England's most breathtakingly beautiful lakes, over five miles in length, dominated by the 'Old Man of Coniston' and alluring visitors year after year.

Unwind on the terrace of the Bluebird Café over ice-cream, coffee or a slap-up meal. (Local hero Donald Campbell was a regular customer.) Then have some fun on the water - try Canadian canoeing or kayaking, hire a rowing boat or electric motor boat, or treat yourself to a sailing lesson.

Or let someone sail you. For sumptuous surroundings, the National Trust's unique Steam Yacht Gondola will take you on a tour of the lake, with the option to combine your trip with a visit to Brantwood (Ruskin's lakeside home), or with a walk to Tarn Hows (seasonal dates vary). Otherwise step aboard the Coniston Launch, with sailings to Brantwood, Torver and the Waterhead Hotel.

For splendid lake views, stride out into the surrounding fells or climb to the top of the 'Old Man'. Following a day's adventure, you'll find everything you need in the way of shops, eateries and watering holes in Coniston village.

Splish, splash, splosh - it's the Coniston Water Festival!

A fantastic time to book a Coniston Water cottage is during the Water Festival, an iconic local event opening with a duck race (around 1,000 rubber ducks enter!) and culminating with a grand 'It's a Lakes Knockout'.

One last thing…Did you know it was Coniston Water that inspired Arthur Ransome to write 'Swallows & Amazons'? Perhaps you should pack a copy in your suitcase.
