Just show me Youlgreave Cottages
Fancy a quiet retreat far from the well trodden path? Why not opt for one of our Yougreave cottages nestling in this sleepy village just three miles from Bakewell?
Expect to feel rejuvenated as you unwind in this lovely little spot, once a centre of lead-mining but today almost entirely devoted to farming. The population only tends to swell with visiting walkers, with three long distance paths passing by - the Limestone Way, the Alternative Pennine Way and the White Peak Way. For a gentle ramble, there's an easy three-mile loop linking the two valleys of Bradford and Lathkill, following riverside and meadow paths and taking in the nearby hamlets of Alport and Over Haddon.
If cycling is your passion, just west of your Youlgreave cottage is Parsley Hay, the point where the High Peak and Tissington Trails meet, offering miles of traffic-free cycling (or walking) through splendid White Peak scenery.
Youlgreave itself is a lovely place for a potter, with its old rows of cottages tumbling down the banks in a hotchpotch fashion. There are several shops, some interesting old buildings like Old Hall Farm and also one of the region's finest churches. Stay in June and enjoy the Well Dressings, when five wells are decorated with unique designs.
Interesting places to visit include Haddon Hall, Arbor Low and Magpie Mine. Or hop aboard Peak Rail for a nostalgic journey by steam.
Evenings may take the form of tucking into a tasty pub meal, listening to live folk music, or simply relaxing in the private surroundings of your Youlgreave cottage.
Or alternatively you may like to view other cottages in the Peak
District.
