  • "Beautiful cottage in a delightful setting; well presented and very comfortable with everything that you need for a relaxing holiday and is a great base for exploring the local area."

  • "We were blessed with very good weather making Bannatyne Lodge even more enjoyable."

It's very airy and the lounge is very comfortable. Enclosed, private garden at the back, morning sunshine front and back, but plenty of shade can be found at the back in the afternoon. You can be straight out of the gate and onto a number of paths, ideal for dog walking. Or, you are on the western outskirts of the Sidlaw Hills and with Pitlochry and Braemar being just over an hour's drive away you are in a good location for more serious hill walking. Newtyle itself, a small, quiet friendly village, small well stocked post office / general shop ( bigger supermarkets, 20 minutes drive away), award winning butchers ( Piries, 'World Champion' pies and sausages!) and small, clean, friendly pub, The Commercial with good 'join in' acoustic music sessions, Wednesday nights. Andrea and Peter, owners of the Lodge, very friendly, considerate, helpful but very respectful too of your privacy. Our thanks to them. Overall, Bannatyne Lodge a wonderful place to stay for a quiet, relaxed holiday on the outskirts of a village which is a great place for easier local walks but with easy access to coast and mountain.

The living room is particularly spacious and cosy and Andrea and Peter were welcoming, friendly and helpful with lots of recommendations of things to do in the area with our two kids. We had a lovely week and would recommend a stay here to anyone wanting to explore this part of Scotland or just to enjoy the Angus scenery around Newtyle. Great views from Kinpurney Keep on a clear day and superb Scotch pies from the butcher!

The Lodge was stylish but practical with a secure garden that made for a comfortable stay with our large black labrador. Excellent network of dog walking paths from the front door and red squirrels at the bottom of the garden. The owners Peter and Andrea were there if needed and we enjoyed being invited to toast the beacon lighting from their beautiful garden. Newtyle natives were warm and friendly and we enjoyed fish and chips on Monday from the visiting van and a take away from the hotel on Wednesday. Really good location to explore the glens, Glamis, Dundee and the coast. We are looking forward to our next visit.

The owners are brilliant and exceptionally helpful. Very clean and has everything in the kitchen you could possibly need in my opinion. Plenty of room for dining and jigsaws and reading! Massive lounge with comfy sofas. Lovely patio area in beautiful garden. So close to countryside walks and down the lane to the Church. There is a village shop and an award winning butcher too. Brilliant. Also a pub that does meals at lunch and night, plus takeaway. And a visiting mobile fish and chip van on Monday evenings. Such a lovely break in a lovely place. Many thanks indeed.

The photos on the site do not do the cottage justice. The owners were an absolute pleasure to meet and so very helpful and generous. The cottage is set in a beautifully peaceful location but still close enough for us to venture out for activities in the area. The wood burner had not been cleaned it was filthy, we did not use. The kitchen was clean, along with the bathrooms and bedrooms. The living room was very cold, the furniture was uncared for and covered in dog hair. The tv was to small for the room, had to strain to see. This property has potential but does not deserve the premium price tag, If offering supply, in good working order clean and loved. There is an epidemic which requires a high standard of cleanliness, this didn't reach every day standards. I would re think your star rating on this property. The area is beautiful, wonderful walks and outdoor pursuits, but these could be had at any accommodation in the area. No control of the heating, and some cold evenings.

Thank you for taking the time to leave your valuable feedback. We are so sorry to hear of your disappointment in the property. The property was thoroughly cleaned in line with Covid-19 cleanliness guidelines and checked before your stay to ensure that it was suitable for your arrival. We did advise you upon your arrival that if you had any issues, no matter how small, to let us know as soon as possible. Had we been made aware that you were unhappy at the time of your stay, we would have come immediately to rectify this for you. We are are sorry that you found the living room to be cold, we had the log fire set up with additional logs and kindling ready for you to light upon arrival. Yet. The cottage was set in the most beautiful part of Angus. The cottage was huge, well equipped with such lovely touches of eggs delivered to us and left on our door step. Freshly cut flowers in the house, beautiful large bath, comfy beds and a large enclosed garden for our dog to spend ages sniffing around as there was a mature garden with lots of trees, just beautiful! A beautiful log burner with complimentary logs was put on in July in Scotland but I think that was more out of decadence and sheer luxury but made for a very special evening. We all so enjoyed our weeks holiday at this beautiful holiday home and cannot recommend it highly enough, thank you so much!

  • "The cottage is situated in a very charming and remote part of the village which ensures that you feel completely immersed in the countryside and local walks are literally a stones throw from the cottage."

There are some lovely touches within the cottage making it feel homely as well as cosy, we did indulge in the wood burning stove which was a favourite of ours. Taking into consideration the current Covid-19 situation our host was very careful to ensure everything was done at a distance and they were not intrusive at all, despite being only at the end of the driveway if we did need them. Considering current climes we did find the lack of a fridge freezer, or indeed a stand alone freezer slightly limiting in that we needed to do a shop everyday as we were not able to dine out in the local area, equally as we did all our cooking for the week in the cottage the hob was rather dated and without markings, rather confusing to work, however, the oven was super. A few minor updates to the kitchen would make this a 10 out of 10 for us. We could not fault anything else, even the sun shone most of the week!

About the location

Kirriemuir 12 miles; Dundee 12 miles.

The village of Newtyle is situated equal distance between the town of Kirriemuir and the city of Dundee. Newtyle has a shop, Post Office, a pub, church and an award-winning butcher. Nearby Kirriemuir is a lovely red sandstone town in the valley of Strathmore, regarded as the gateway to the Angus Glens, which offer some of Scotland's most unspoiled landscape. The town is home to the birthplace of novelist JM Barrie, creator of the much-loved children's character Peter Pan and the house is now a museum looked after by the National Trust for Scotland.
