Pen y Bont Bach

Comfortable and spacious.

Parking was ample. A little tlc needed but nothing drastic. Rented the Bath House in Bangor previously as it had a similar type of location, however Pen y Bont Bach was far superior. I would be happy to book this property again.

Only a couple of niggles which were paled into insignificance by everything else.

When we arrived the house smelt quite stale but windows opened and an airfreshener sorted that out. The hot water took forever to work in the kitchen but be patient it will arrive (its the left type fyi as there is no indication which is which). The house is so nice and comfortable. Peaceful, beautiful views. Lovely wildlife. Gardens well kept and the listing does not do it justice, it is right on the seafront you can see the sea from the living room window. First time I have been to a house and not had to buy a decent wine glass so well done on the glasses front. We had a wonderful holiday and would highly recommend. The wet room shower was fantastic and the shower in the other ensuite as well. Great Wifi coverage. All in all a fantastic little house

An absolutely beautiful property which was perfect for our needs.

Really close to the beach to walk (with or without a dog), all on one level for our mobility-challenged mum, lovely garden for the kids to have Nerf battles and generally run around and a great location for short trips to other parts of beautiful Ynys Mon! Fab social kitchen/dining area and great sized bedrooms. Definitely will return for our 3rd visit, fingers crossed.

This property is in a fabulous location and has great potential, however maintenance is an issue.

The property itself is spacious and in lovely grounds so close to the beach, it is perfect. However, you should be aware there are no boundaries to the garden at all so if you have a dog that likes to wander off just be aware. We didn't have a great start as we arrived to find a dishwasher full of dirty crockery so had to wash up before we could cook dinner. The "welcome pack" was a Bara Brith and a single J cloth (I hope this was overlooked, like the dishwasher, rather than what is deemed acceptable). The kitchen inventory needs checking, for example, in a property for 7 people there were only 5 mismatched bowls. We were lucky enough to have fabulous weather and the garden and the views are amazing. However, the garden furniture is old and tired and very uncomfortable, no seat cushions or anything. There are also a lot of loose paving slabs to the front and rear of the property, which are quite dangerous. The 2nd bedroom also had an unpleasant drain smell - reported to Sykes, no response. Our main reason for the low rating is that so many faults have been reported, both in reviews and in the visitors' book, going back a long time and most don't seem to have been addressed. This lack of care and attention to customers' experiences is what would prevent us from returning. Sykes too don't seem to check customers' experiences or do anything to check faults are rectified. We had no satisfactory response from them during our holiday.

We have stayed at this property 4 times and we have always loved and enjoyed our stay.

The location is spectacular, absolutely perfect for us as we can kayak and paddle board in the bay at high tide and take wonderful walks across the bay at low tide as well as enjoy the views in between times. The house itself is in need of some T.L.C with lots of little maintenance jobs that desperately need doing on the inside and outside of the property, none of which hindered our stay too much but would have made it more enjoyable had they been taken care of. Would stay again in the future as it’s located perfectly for our needs.

We loved it here!

Location is superb with fabulous walks and stunning views. Was very accessible for my 87 year old father and he was in his element sitting outside watching the rabbits and birds in the sunshine. I know there have been previous reviews which state the property was unclean; this was certainly not the case for our visit. Other reviews mention maintenance issues; yep a couple plug sockets didn't work, and a couple of bedside lamps were faulty, but there was nothing that would stop us from returning here again.

The accommodation was ideal for a 6 adults, a toddler and 2 dogs.

Great view of Red Wharf Bay with a very short walk onto the flat sands (when the tide was out). Convenient location for coastal walks to Benllech via the Ship Inn. The accommodation possessed all the amenities required during a family holiday; however, an up to date inventory check and immediate repair of faults previously reported would enhance the overall experience.

Honestly this is the most beautiful place we've ever stayed in.

The beach is right in front, there's no passing traffic, it feels isolated yet the pub is only a mile away. We absolutely loved it and will definitely return. The wildlife outside is plentiful, tons of tiny rabbits, very 'Watership Down', and we saw the Northern Lights the first two nights there. Highly recommend, can't fault it at all.

Pen y bont bach is an absolute gem of a property and the location is outstanding.

The house itself is beautifully decorated and very well maintained. Everything worked as it should and lots of thoughtful additions in the kitchen, lamps in the bedrooms and a fire starter kit. The bath is fantastic and it is so quiet and relaxing in that space. The drive down the lane is well advised and easy to find and not an arduous manoeuvre to get there, would not recommend it in a low car though, its a beach road with many holes. Some minor issues which I have reported in the visitors book, but they are simply to direct the owner to the issues, not complaining we had such a wonderful stay. Will definitely book again and easily the best sykes property yet!

Beautiful property in a stunning location.

Loved our stay over Christmas but we did experience a few issues. The under floor heating wasn’t working and it was quite cold so ended up spending quite a bit on coal and wood. The WiFi didn’t work the whole time we were there. Also most of the plug sockets in the hall and at least 2 of the bedrooms did not work and in the twin bedroom which has the beach view, the socket behind the bed is literally hanging out of the wall which made it difficult to charge phones, dry hair, use the lamp etc. All issues are easily resolved but just wanted to bring it to your attention for your future guests.

We’ve returned to Pen Y Bont Bach again and again.

Really like the house, it’s position and views. Anglesey has beautiful beaches and being so close to the mountains is a bonus. The house is surrounded by birds and wild life, which you can see from all the windows. My dog really enjoys being able to get down on to the beach directly from the house. We hope to visit again soon

Been going to same property for years and love it and it’s the first time a few little niggles We had no wi fi for 2 weeks and reception is not great to depend on phone where we are and could have done with a bit more heat as we are shall I say into our 70’s .

.but booked 2 weeks next year as the views and wildlife are something else

Absolutely beautiful property, well equipped, ace huge 2nd fridge, great real fire and brill garden for the dog with the most amazing views and a super location for walks down to the beach and along the coastal path.

As it is all on one level it was brilliant for my elderly and disabled mum to feel 100% part of the family holiday, but i'd definitely suggest creating some sort of simple (removable) ramp for those 2 steps into it - her restricted mobility meant a little struggle getting in and out. We all thoroughly enjoyed our time at Pen Y Bont Bach and cant wait to come 'bach'.

Great location and comfortable beds, sadly lots of issues need resolving, the kitchen tap leaked a lot and will fail completely very soon, the grill doesn’t work, both reported to Sykes and someone was supposed to attend and fix, no fix.

One of the ovens doesn’t not heat up to a high heat, hob intermittent. WiFi dropped out over night and was off for periods of time, several trickle vents off or falling off. On arrival cleaning had only been half done, no attention taken under tables etc and sand all over, we cleaned up using the brush and mop. Having read the guest book, all the issues we encountered are a common recurring theme, which was really shocking. I get the impression that it hoped the location will override the many issues, it doesn’t and I don’t want to spend a week snagging.

A very well equipped and spacious property with ample space for 6 adults.

The views acress Red Wharf Bay were spectacular and we all enjoyed our stay. There were a few issues. Ant infestation in the en-suite. This was swiftly resolved within an hour of contacting Sykes who sent someone to deal with the problem. Insufficient black bin liners. Oven needs a deep clean. We felt only able to use it once to heat some food.. Stains on some of the pillow and matress protectors. No non-slip mats available for the shower and bath. The floor in the en-suite shower is very slippery.

Gorgeous property.

Fantastic location. Generally very well equipped but an oven cloth, toilet rolls and dish washer tablets were lacking. One bedroom had bad mould in the shower room which gave my daughter an asthma attack.

Great location with superb views.

Really good for exploring Anglesey and North Wales ( Snowdonia and Caernarfon etc..) Had a really nice week and would happily have stayed for two !

Well equipped property in beautiful location

A well presented property in a lovely area ,close to the beach and coastal paths.

A clean and spacious house with very good amenities. we all really enjoyed our stay.

This was my fourth visit to this property and, as much as I love it, it is beginning to get a bit tired.

Kitchen equipment could do with a refresh and much of the glassware is chipped. It was also not as clean as on previous visits, with a gritty floor and dusty surfaces. We also had no heating during our stay, and the hot water was also intermittent. As the prices have increased significantly in the last four years, I was a bit disappointed.

A lovely property, well laid out and very well maintained.

Location is fabulous- tranquil and peaceful yet not too remote. We loved the close proximity to the beach as did our 2 dogs. We will definitely revisit.

Lovely, spacious bungalow in a beautiful position by the bay. Brilliant walks from the front door and plenty of places to see in Anglesey for only a short drive. The only two negatives were having to leave by 9am and not 10am as shown when booking; it was a bit of a rush after a relaxing week. The house was quite cold and we couldn’t really feel the underfloor heating and didn’t want the trouble of cleaning out a wood burner. There was a small portable fan heater which we did make use of. More positives than negatives though and we would go back.

Beautiful bungalow a stones throw from the beach.

Very comfortable, wonderfully equipped and spotlessly clean. Lots of great walks from the door and all the islands attractions only a short drive away. Michael, the owner came to check everything was to our liking which was really nice.

The property is great, the location is fantastic and it is the perfect place to have a relaxing enjoyable holiday with all the family from young to old. Our family range in age from 16 to 80 and this place caters for all of them. Absolutely fabulous.

Fantastic property ,welcoming host ,just a few hiccups during our stay .

Most of the week we were without a grill ,although Michael the owner did send an electrician but almost as soon as he left the problem was not resolved. Also the outside seating is very uncomfortable we were unable to make the most of the views. Nowhere to hang wet towels etc and approach to property is confusing two families two sat nav,s we were both directed the wrong way ,we would probably return if a hot tub was installed

Beautiful house - deceptively large!

Spectacular views, comfy beds, stunning wildlife. We enjoyed watching the wild rabbits, partridge, pheasants, shelducks and egrets from the windows. The laundry airer was broken on arrival and, as others have said, a garden line or airer would be a great addition especially for washing out towels or swim stuff after a trip to the beach. Garden furniture could do with updating but did not impact on our stay. Kitchen had everything we needed. The cake on arrival was appreciated. The Ship Inn a short drive (or walk at low tide!) is a great spot for lunch in the sunshine. Fish and chips from Benllech on the first night was a treat and it's only a short drive to Beaumaris or Newborough beach for a lovely day out. We also ordered a tesco delivery for the first night so no need to go out and do a grocery shop. Thoroughly enjoyed our week and I suspect we will be back!

We stayed at the property during April 2024 and found that the property met and exceeded our expectations.

The location is fantastic with a panoramic view out of all front windows over Red Wharf Bay (a camera would never do the view justice). The property has great accommodation, is well furnished and maintained and easily accommodated 5 x adults and 2 x children. The only slight minor point to mention is that the owner left a note asking not to adjust the temperature controls as they are quite complicated but on occasion we found the property to be too cool and needed to use the wood burner but this wouldn’t stop us staying again.

Excellent assistance by the very knowledgeable owner who we have met on our previous two visits who provides a property finished to a high quality/ standard.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ OUTSTANDING COTTAGE.

Everything about Pen Y Bont Bach is perfect; Location - right on the seafront. Great walks and fantastic views. Property - everything and more. Super king size bed and multiple other bedrooms for any medium group size. The beds are extremely comfortable. The sheer size of the property is not justified on Sykes. It is extra large and very homely. The cottage has 4 bathrooms, 2 walk in showers and a bath. 4 toilets in total. The property is all ground floor (one very small step to front entrance) and the back entrance is flat. Every window gives exceptional views. The front of the property is entirely beach. The back view is countryside. Cleanliness was excellent and you can see care and effort has gone into the property. We were glad to see the 9am check out has changed to 10am. Owner - very pro active, caring and helpful. Accomodated us with little notice. Michael was always available should we of needed him. He is one of the best owners we have ever met. VERY Dog friendly - lovely garden and the entire property is tile floors with underfloor heating - so easy to clean. A hosepipe outside for cleaning the dogs was provided. All in all - this property is excellent. If Sykes had a Platinum collection - for sure this would be included. We have fallen in love with Pen Y Bont Bach and will definitely be back for sure. Thank you for having us and we hope to be back soon. Sadly it's fully booked for a while now but should the owner read this and receive a cancellation - please get in touch with us to come back.

The facilities were perfect for our family especially as my husband has a disability. The welcome cake was appreciated. If I had one criticism it would be the late Check in and early departure. Hope return.

Fantastic location looking out over the bay.

The house itself is very spacious and has great facilities. This was our second stay and we have booked again, so I think that speaks volumes for the place.

The property was in a beautiful position by the sea and very spacious.

We did not allow our holiday to be spoilt by the following, lights hanging out of ceilings and mirrors, or bulbs that needed replacing, all of which we felt should have been checked before we arrived. we were not allowed in the property until 5 pm and previous guests had left at 9am, there was plenty of time to clean fridges, dust and remove cobwebs. We were disappointed with the lack of outside seating, although the property was for seven we only had five chairs, two of which were broken, fortunately we spent only a short time at the property.

We loved the layout, great for our party of 7 plus baby.

Great location. The property doesn't have enough outdoor chairs for the number of guests allowed, we had to use our own beach chairs when we all wanted to eat outside. It would be better to try to have earlier arrival and later departure times in line with other properties we have rented (although the owner was kind enough to let us in at 4pm when we arrived).

Lovely property.

Owner was responsive to a query and kindly popped to visit us, which was appreciated and it was also good to meet with him. Location is spot on, and it is sensible to note tide times if doing the long coastal walks adjacent to the house. The house had every amenity that we could think of and was very spacious. A nice place that we would consider staying at again.

The ovens were not clean, which is not the owner's fault .

....also one shelf in the fridge in the utility room was dirty. The property is delightful , wonderful views etc. We informed the owner of a slight problem with the dishwasher door , he had someone ( Ken & Phil ) come around as soon as was possible to fix it. Brilliant response. We also met the owner who chatted with us for quite a while. Very friendly. Plenty of car parking spaces. Not our first visit and hopefully we will be back.

Spacious, comfortable and a beautiful setting.

Owner was responsive to a number of problems we encountered, e.g. no hot water on first night, bin that wouldn’t close. However, some concerns were not resolved, i.e, there was evidence of a wasps’ nest (our infant granddaughter was stung) as wasps appeared everyday, external waste bins were full and the grill failed after the first night. Having to vacate by 9.00am on the last morning, with a group of seven was challenging. We did enjoy our stay in Anglesey.

Perfect location, great facilities, plenty of space for all the family.

No need to go travelling about to beaches and places of interest as you have a whole weeks worth of walks, beaches, wildlife and views right on your doorstep. Great place for an escape from daily life and to relax and enjoy some quality family time.

A lovely house in the most gorgeous location.

We really enjoyed our week - a return visit as we stayed in the house last year. There was an issue with the hot water which the owner sorted out very promptly. A few niggles we noted last year: it's incredibly irritating that social media is blocked; apart from the living room there are no rugs as shown in the house details which would make the house a bit cosier. Again the towel allocation was rather mean - a hand-towel as well as a bath towel should have been provided. The dishwasher didn't have any salt or rinse-aid so we filled it up with both in order to clean properly.

Love the cottage Been many times could we have a washing line please used to be one when we first came a whirly one in the corner

The master en-suite was fantastic but a pair of robe/bath towel hooks close by would be useful.

The wood burner was a focal point which we did not use but a light within this area would have emphasised this focal point when fire is not being used. These are suggestions not criticisms. We look forward to returning again. Hair drier in master was useful but not mentioned in literature.

This was our third visit still love it but dissatisfied with the wi-fi very basic .

Needs updating .

We had a lovely week at Pen y Bony Bach.

The house is stunning and a lot bigger than we expected. Despite being a large house due to its layout and heating system it was warm and cosy in February. It’s in a quiet spot and just a short walk down the path and straight onto the beach which was full of bird life which can be seen from the house. We got regular visits in the garden from two pheasants and rabbits. Our dogs loved it as well and would often be found by the windows that lead onto the garden watching them. The only slight negative is that the back garden needs to be enclosed with a fence so that children and dogs can be let out into the garden with no worries about them straying or getting hit by occasional farm traffic. Generally really good facilities with lots of space so great for a family gathering. WiFi is a little patchy but still usable. Could do with a few extra bowls as only 5 available for a group of 7 but overall really enjoyed our stay.

Thank you Glad to find all the cleaning products & bin bags. The house worked brilliantly for our 3 generations of adults (with a 15 year old too ) plenty of space,comfortable for all of us. We had a lovely stay ,playing games,watching jools Holland on New Year’s Eve which is a family tradition. All in all it worked very well for us & would certainly recommend the house to others.

we have stayed here 4 times now.

the last time was 2017. we feel the property is looking tired and in need of some TLC. The paintwork is looking tired and the rug in the lounge needs changing as its rather grubby looking. Also the outside of the property needs attention. The table and chairs need upgrading with a parasol as it gets very hot at the back in warm weather. The metal chairs are rather uncomfortable. Having said all this it would not put us off returning as the property is in a fabulous location and a great size all on one level for people with mobility issues. The cake left for us is a nice touch and a thankyou to the lovely cleaners who were there when we arrived.

The house is in a really lovely location with a gorgeous view of Red Wharf Bay.

It has a big garden and felt incredibly restful. The beach is never busy and fantastic for dog walks. There are some great walks from the house and you can walk to the The Ship Inn and The Boat House on the other side of the bay. We found it to be very well situated to get to Menai Bridge and it was only 20 minutes drive to Bangor station. We found the house to be comfortable with lots of space, although it is very much a holiday home and has no frills. The house has tiled floors throughout which is quite unusual for the UK, and perhaps could have done with a few more rugs as shown in the profile photos – especially in the bedrooms. We stayed for two weeks, and although those in the main bedroom were given proper bath towels, the rest of us had one small towel each and no individual handtowels. We were expecting these to be changed after a week and had to ask for more which was a bit of a hassle. The Wifi inexplicably has a block on certain websites and all social media which was annoying for those of us who needed to do a bit of work! This is the first holiday home we have ever been to which did not provide a pint of milk and some tea bags on arrival! We had a large cake instead. There were no dishwasher tablets, cleaning fluids or black sacks for the bins. Instructions on rubbish disposal were non existent and the owner specifically asked for no segregation of recyclables, which we undertook ourselves

We have been to Pen Y Bont Bach for the last 3 years.

It is an excellent cottage with all the facilities you could ask for and all on one level. As for the location, Superb and restful. Just the place to unwind.

This is one of the best holiday lets we have stayed in.

The location is amazing with views of the sea to the front and countryside at the back. The cottage itself is perfect for a group and the garden is great for dogs.

Been coming to this cottage for a few years now and never disappointed

This was our second visit but unfortunately Covid 19 struck the country .

Our Prime Minister urged everyone to come home. All camp sites hotels ,restaurants and pubs closed so with heavy heart we packed up and came home. Undeterred we rebooked for 30 October.Alas Anglesey was closed for a second out break. Third time lucky fingers crossed we booked for March 12th 2021. What could possibly go wrong ????

I really don't want to spend a lot of my time providing feedback for Sykes and for this owner.

I don't feel that the owner showed hospitality, and I don't feel inclined to provide much free advice on your improvement. I need to say the property is in an idyllic setting and the quality of the build was excellent. However, once we arrived, it became clear that the owner's ideas of hospitality do not align with my ideas of what premium accommodation should provide (£3500 for two weeks). I could provide a long list, but the low-lights are: double beds not joined with incorrect sized and type of sheets/bedding, no bedding change in two weeks, no way to dry bedding if washed, bulbs missing from almost all light fittings, door handles so stiff that it was possible to get trapped in the bedroom, no towel change for two weeks and no way to dry them if washed, no comfortable chairs in the garden, mixed oddments of kitchen utensils, and cheap place mats / equipment. A note asks renters not to use the larger fridge, or the internet!!! We were told shortly before arrival that the exit time would be at 9am, so we felt it necessary to leave the day before, but no mention of a refund of some charges as a gesture of goodwill. We never met the owner, but I inferred a level of arrogance when we noticed that pages from the "complaints book" were ripped out. Remaining entries (no clothes line, door handle difficulties) had been reported five years earlier! One other complaint about the lack of a dryer was met with a snappy response saying there wasn't one with a complaint from the owner about the state they left the property (a comment which I course they would never read - but we did). Please don't contact me, I don't want to think about this any more.

Pen-Y-Bont Bach is a wonderful place to stay.

The cottage, facilities and position are first rate. We will definitely be back.

We all enjoyed the cottage and the surroundings. Lucy the dog found the freedom and space to run around, fantastic. We will definitely be coming back.

The cottage itself was lovely.

It is the small things that make a difference. The home comforts need improving on, I.e host making sure there is some milk in the fridge on arrival etc. Really disappointing is the cleanliness. There was a used cotton wool bud and a tampon wrapper left in the main bedroom which I find really bad in terms of cleanliness.

So enjoyed this wonderful cottage just rebooked for 2020

Visit and still get sad when we leave which tells you how fabulous it is..we share the garden with wildlife and do very little..my dog loves the walk along the coast ..it is a quiet peaceful place everything you need inside the cottage for a comfortable stay ..will be back next year

We had visited the house last year with our family and knew what to expect.

As before, it was well equipped, clean, comfortable and well suited to young children, being on one level, close to the sea and with safe garden space for them to use. We couldn't have asked for more (except for warmer weather!).

Lovely house.

All very clean and well organised. Views were fabulous and we especially liked being able to walk the Coastal Path from our doorstep.

Not a problem for summer months but underfloor heating was not effective even after three days when it was supposedly working again. Glad of extra heaters supplied by engineer. Beautiful location. Good walking to be had and very peaceful.

We have stayed at this cottage before and never had any complaint but this time the mattresses on the twin en suite room we such that they couldn’t be slept on as you could feel the springs.

I rang you and told you about this and you said someone would get back to me but they never did. I think we found it particularly disappointing as we have always rated this cottage highly. We would normally give this cottage 5* but this time it’s 4*

We give 4 star for size and beautiful tranquil position of the property.

Plenty of parking.Access lane was very narrow and surprisingly busy.There were minor niggles though.No internet through whole stay ,this has been an ongoing problem mentioned by previous occupants in the visitor book. The kettle was far too small for 7 people,small teapot too small for 7 and large one had no lid.Additional pillows not available or any extra bedding.Only 5 placemats in very poor condition.The seating arrangement for7 adults in the lounge was quite tight too. Dishwasher and washing machine worked well.Excellent bathing facilities.

Pen y Bont Bach is a very smart cottage in a wonderful location.

The views of the bay from the front windows are wonderful & the countryside at the back isn't too shabby! The cottage is very comfortable, spacious & well equipped.

The cottage was as advertised so no disappointments.

The view of Red Wharf Bay was stunning and the house beautifully appointed with excellent facilities. Found the "suggestions and messages" book quite entertaining!

Wonderful cottage, plenty of space and super location for walking the dogs.

Outstanding location and quality throughout

The bungalow was well equipped, and ideally suited for a family of 7.

We all enjoyed the fairly remote location with lots of beautiful walks from the front door. Would love to visit again at some point. Thank you.

Great location on the beach, so quiet and calming. The house is huge and very luxurious.
