What guests are saying
The 2 bedroom Seaview Cottage is situated in a farm complex, about 3 miles SW of Kilmartin.
It is a converted and extended farm building attached to a residential house. The pictures on the Sykes listing are very good. It has a slightly quirky layout, with a double and twin bedroom upstairs and a large bathroom downstairs with a shower over the bath, but a separate WC with another basin. The galley kitchen is reasonably equipped. There is a step up to the dining area and lounge, which is quite cosy and well furnished. There is an excellent wooden staircase from the lounge to upstairs and a large OS map hangs on the wall halfway up. There is plenty of room to park several cars in the outside area. The owner has provided a huge amount of tourist information (the most we have ever seen) and also left 2 measures of whiskey together with some shortbread. There was also a bottle of wine (I think). She called in and was extremely helpful with suggestions for visits. The only slight negative is the fiddly arrangements for rubbish (due to local council stupidity, the owner has to take waste away to a site). There is no system for food waste. It would be helpful to have some boxes in the kitchen to sort waste. Also, the step up/down to the kitchen is a slight concern for those going to the bathroom in the night, but there is a sliding door to shut off the kitchen. The cottage is well situated for walks to Poltalloch Church (normally unlocked) and the ruins of the old house as well as Kilmartin and the many neolithic sites around it, and the Crinan Canal. Carnasserie Castle is worth the walk up to it from the car park. Crinan is a great place to visit. We had an excellent meal at the Hotel and also recommend the canal side cafe, where the passage of boats through the canal locks is fascinating. Lochgilphead is the nearest shopping centre, with a supermarket and garage as well as local shops.
We had a great week despite some bad weather.
The owner was lovely and very helpful.
A very enjoyable time was had at Seaview.
Jacinta was very welcoming, and a mine of information on the local area and where to go. The cottage is well equiped and comfy, with good kitchen facilities for russling-up our evening meal. Although the weather was "typical" with drizzle, mist, some sun, breezy ( it keeps the midges away!), it didn't stop us getting out and about, as we are keen birdwatchers. There is some great wildlife watching from the cottage, and surrounding lanes, as it is situated by The Moine Mhor nature reserve e.g. hen harrier, weasel. Go farther afield, say Crinan, for white tailed eagle, seals, dolphins. Kilmartin museum is a must, and its nearby Neolithic sites. So, all in all Seaview is a great base. Enjoy as we did.
