Fisherman's Lodge

Despite a slight misunderstanding over our arrival date, the owner rose to the occasion and we were able to commence our stay without any further problems.

We don't understand previous comments about the underfloor heating as we were toasy warm despite it being sub-zero outside. Perhaps they never discovered the themostat in the 2nd bedroom ? We didn't manage to get the EV charger working, but coundn't decide if it was the charger, my car or my cable that was playing up. Never mind, there are a couple of good charger options in Clavering - the Spar is cheaper than the pub.

This is our 3rd time staying at Fisherman's Lodge which is an excellent base for our hobby of geocaching with many series within a short drive away.

After originally staying a few years ago, we noticed how tired the lodge is now looking, especially in the living room where the 2 seater sofa is damaged & not very comfortable! The lodge would benefit from a deep clean as there was lots of dust about & cooking equipment left with food debris still on it. A final check would have discovered the wrappers left in cupboards & the wet glasses marking the shelf but we are sure that the owners will correct this in the future & if these issues were addressed then we would happily stay again!

Property in quiet location with everything needed for your stay.

Beds comfortable, sofa needs updating as uncomfortable, warm but underfloor heating not enough so an electric heater is provided to boost the warmth as we stayed in Nov/Dec. A starter pack was very nice as location is some distance from shops. Flies can be a problem, but there are screens on the windows. Overall we enjoyed our stay.

We chose Fisherman's Lodge as a base for our Geocaching activities.

The location and the Lodge are excellent, peaceful and environmentally friendly. There is a small icebox in the fridge but it is not a washer/dryer. We were surprised that there was no kitchen roll, only 2 dishwasher tablets (only 5 dinner plates) and only 1 toilet roll. Minor issues that overall did not detract from our enjoyment since everything else was fine and we would be pleased to return.

The cottage is lovely but could do with some upgrades. needs 2 2 seater sofa's as only one sofa and one chair and the sofa is dipping in the middle so no comfort in the evening when there is 4 adults. recycling bins for rubbish. Could do with a fridge freezer . The frying pan is no good as everything sticks. All in all we had a lovely week it just needs new sofa's for comfort. Sykes you need to take off your directions to the farm , there is a much easier way to get there !

A lovely property in a beautiful, peaceful location

This was our 2nd time staying at Fisherman's Lodge & we enjoyed it as much as our 1st!

The bathroom has been upgraded to have a lovely big shower & is much more practical than before! We were blessed with good weather but the lodge was always warm & cosy thanks to the underfloor heating! We are avid geo-cachers & there are lots of series with in a 30 minute drive away so for us the location is ideal for 'Ryoland' caching! We loved waking up to the views over the lake with all of the wildlife in & around it! We had a minor issue with the lodge but this was dealt with quickly by the owner, Sarah & didn't affect our enjoyment! We wouldn't hesitate to return for a 3rd time!

The perfect place to stay.

Beautiful views and sunrises and the lodge was impeccably furnished. It was spotlessly clean and had everything we needed including washing machine and diswasher. We loved the underfloor heating too. I would highly recommend staying here. Excellent accommodation for a very good price.

The bathroom has been upgraded to the photos on the listing and is excellent. Great location to enjoy the countryside and then visit pretty Saffron Walden and very close to Cambridge park and ride.

An excellent place, quiet, clean and relaxing!

Lovely accommodation with great views.

Positives...great welcome pack, the wildlife. We were offered clean bedding and towels for our second week. Negatives...no hand wash, no bathroom towel rail (we used our own clothes airer), no starter pack of bin liners, no kitchen roll, and no caddy for the kitchen waste. But that's me being picky.

A nice quiet space in beautiful surroundings.

The view over the lake is picturesque and really does bring about a lovely sense of being apart from the rest of the busy world. Lots of wildlife and birds to keep you entertained and plenty of options for a gentle or vigorous walk - as you like it. It is a fairly remote place to stay but for me that added to the charm, you need a car to access anything but with a short drive there is a lot to offer from the local artisan bakery to Audley House to Saffron Walden, to Shepreth Wildlife park - or you can just stay at the lodge and be "gone fishing". The hosts are friendly and were very kind when I could not get the TV channels to reveal themselves. I would be happy to return.

We had a wonderful stay.

The cottage was very comfortable & clean & we had everything we needed for our stay. The welcome pack of eggs, bread & milk, all from local businesses (the eggs from the farm itself) was really appreciate & we bought more eggs & local honey from The Egg Shed on our way home. It was so peaceful to sit out listening to the birds & spotting wildlife. You couldn't help but relax. The farm that the cottage is located was a 10-15 minute drive to Saffron Walden where we have family & this was an easy drive. This is the 3rd time we have been visiting family in the area since October last year & this is by far the best accommodation we have stayed in & we will certainly be staying here again.

Very much enjoyed our stay at Fisherman's Lodge, very comfortable accommodation, with a nice outlook over a small lake and a quiet rural location, but despite this it was not difficult to find.

Also there are some excellent local pubs for eating out, and the cottage is close to places of interest such as IWM Duxford, Audley End House, and Cambridge, which we found was easy to visit via the Trumpington Park and Ride. Highly recommended place to stay.

We loved our week at Fisherman's Lodge-the photos on the website do not do it justice!

There is everything you need both indoors & out & everywhere was spotlessly clean! We used the lodge as a base for the many geocaching trails in the area & could walk from the door to some! If you prefer, the lodge & grounds are great to explore & there is fishing on site too so you could just have a chilled week! We would not change anything & will definitely book again in the future!

A wonderful cottage in a peaceful rural location.

Great cottage in a very quiet, rural area.

Kind owner! Everything you need is there. Comfortable. Some little disadvantages: some beds are short for tall people; in summer there are many flies (because of the farm), and with little children you have to watch out because of the lake and the farm machinery (but that's what we knew in advance).

Great location, silent, clean, lots of wild animals arround (good for the kids to watch)

The property itself 'Fishermans Lodge' is of a good standard.

Also inclusive of linen , which is a great help when packing includes your fishing gear. Unfortunately the fish have become stunted, due to overstocking and low water. I measured 18 inches to 2 feet as standard. Therefore I would suggest the lake needs dredging, with the removal of 50% of stock on an annual basis. You will catch plenty at present, but unfortunately the fish are of a poor size, due to overpopulation. It has the potential to be a great water, if managed appropriately. I loved the location and the views are excellent, we were all pleased with the location and surrounding panorama. However as a fishing party, we would not return due to the aforementioned problem.

Lovely property.

Super clean and comfortable. Great setting with lake view. Private and very quiet. Nice fresh eggs supplied from their farm. It’s a bit tricky to find ( use GPS) but if you’re ok with driving to go everywhere you can enjoy this peaceful retreat. Saffron Walden and Audley End House are nice places to visit and Cambridge sun not too far away also. Very friendly owners. May come again as relatives nearby.

Property was beautiful inside and out.

Kitchen facilities could do with an upgrade. Bathroom definitely needs doing. Owner was lovely, stayed in a lot better.

Fabulous little retreat, perfect for a stay to get away from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

Beautiful quiet surroundings. Everything catered for in the cottage and welcome pack was much appreciated. Slight issue with hot water but this was resolved after a day or so. Only suggestion, and it does not affect the quality of the stay, would be for two double sofas as the cottage sleeps four, yet only three can sit comfortably.

Excellent stay - we were at the cottage for a Christmas break and it met all our requirements.

The lodge was perfectly clean with great facilities and a wonderful, comfy bed. We had a superb stay there and the host was so accommodating.

. it is fully equipped and it is in a perfect lakeside setting , There was also a very nice welcome pack .. would definitely like to return and would certainly recommend it.

It was a lovely ‘cottage’ in a lovely situation and we were made to feel very welcome with fresh eggs, milk, bread and apple juice on our arrival.

My only slightly negative comment would be from the disabled perspective. Details say suitable for accompanied disabled people. As a wheelchair user (who lives alone) it was difficult to manoeuvre around the property and impossible to get a wheelchair into the bedrooms. I took my own blow up bath seat with me, had I not done so I would have been unable to use the bath or shower since there are no handrails anywhere in the bathroom. It’s a lovely place and I wouldn’t want to put anyone off. I’d love to go back, but I felt others should be made aware of the difficulties for the less mobile.

Comfortable accommodation with great views.

Internet description was accurate. Fishing the lake was good, lake was well maintained. Plenty of wildlife around. Thank you for free eggs. Places of interest were close and easy to get to, etc Duxford, Cambridge, Audley End. Saffron Walden was lovely market town. Would recommend.

We love staying here, it’s calm and relaxed atmosphere, beautiful scenery and friendly hosts.

As it's a working farm there are a lot of flys. Would definitely go back.

Fisherman’s Lodge is a small and very well put together timber barn in surroundings which are a haven for wildlife.

We had almost perfect weather for our holiday and just about lived outside during daylight hours….which are long in June. It was fun to watch the fish jump in the lake and the peace and quiet in an evening when the farm work stops for the night was perfect. There’s fresh, free range eggs every day if you wish and the kindest of owners not too far away if problems occur. We had my 90 year old mum with us and she coped really well with all the facilities. We made memories together, thanks to the lodge and it’s surroundings, which we will treasurer forever.

Beautiful location.

Peace and tranquillity. We couldn’t work the heating and we were a little cold one of the nights. A microwave would useful. The freshly laid eggs were a good bonus. Would definitely go again

We booked this holiday due to the great reviews.

We wanted a fishing holiday somewhere peaceful and scenic and it didn’t disappoint. Sarah welcomed us when we arrived, very friendly and there for anything we needed. The lodge is lovely- spotlessly clean, comfortable and had everything we needed and more. Slept so well! The lake is beautiful and we fished every day, even when the wind was cold you could find a sheltered spot. Over the week we caught so many fish we lost count and enjoyed every minute. The surrounding area is lovely, beautiful villages with thatched cottages, quiet roads and a lovely pub 2 miles away. Can’t recommend enough and will be booking our next visit soon.

Easy booking process and good communication throughout.

Lovely venue in a tranquil location with abundant wildlife. Very rural in pleasant countryside but with easy access to Saffron Waldon and surrounding villages.

Fisherman’s Lodge is a warm, cosy cottage in a delightful, peaceful area but surrounded by picturesque villages and good areas to explore.

Sarah, our hostess, provided a very warm welcome along with a yummy starter package of eggs, bread, apple juice and milk! Would thoroughly recommend staying at this cottage whether you’re a fisherman/woman or not!

We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the lodge.

To have fishing so close at hand was a great bonus. The owners were very helpful and pleasant and the information leaflet on places to eat and visit ,ideal. The whole holiday surpassed our expectations and was much appreciated, especially in this current situation. Even the weather was glorious. We would and probably will , revisit again.

Fishermans Lodge was excellent, we couldnt fault the house or location, it is remote but things are still close at hand when needed.

Sarah was there if we needed anything and it was nice just sitying out listening to all the wild life around the lake. Would recomend tha park & ride for Cambridge. And a trip to Saffron Walden on market day is a must as the produce is excellent especially on the fish and veg stalls.

Fishmans lodge is exceptional we enjoyed a lovely time,beautiful fishing lake well maintained beautiful grounds.

Owners are lovely lots of wildlife to see my children loved the chickens and fresh eggs every morning a real treat. Would recommend to families a nice quiet location and the weather was spot on. We could not ask for more. As for Sykes company and a new customer very poor customer service very disappointing in how my enquiry was handled.

Next to no criticism re our stay at Fishermans Lodge- Altogether good.

Ground, trees and lake wonderful to wake up to; highly recommend the place. I cannot give Sykes ANY credit for this property - they mishandled payments made as well as very rude feedback to me from them.

Great place and really enjoyed the week we stayed - the only issue - if you are intending to cook then the work surfaces are limited.

A small item but can be important - but don't let this point prevent you from staying at this facility it was worth the visit

Superb location and superb venue.

Don't expect it to be fly free however because you are in the middle of the countryside and on a farm! The lodge does come with fly screens and it's up to you to decide how to behave. Loved the lake and the views with all the trees. Likely to visit again.

Excellent location for our family wedding, followed by a holiday as we didn't know the area at all.

Very peaceful - visited every day by lovely dog, who never came inside, just stood outside waiting for his stroke/fuss/tickle every day!

An idyllic spot for country lovers but difficult to find.

A long way from any shop (4 miles) for essential provisions. Excellent pub restaurants in the area. Some items of crockery were very meagre - mugs (only four!). Having said that we would go again.
