Minnow Cottage

The little cottage has all the amenities one needs to be comfortable, cozy, and efficient in the kitchen.

It is nicely decorated but space is sufficient for a visitor's belongings. A washing machine would be nice, but there is simply no place to put it, and there is a little laundromat just a 5 minute walk away. Stores are close, too. We will definitely stay there again when we visit family in Malpas. We had four others over to watch the soccer, and had 5 at dinner one night. The open plan makes it feel larger and more versatile.

Lovely quaint cottage, just needed a few things added, like extra hooks behind the door, a grab rail to get in and out of the shower, a toilet seat that wasn't already broken, more mirrors.

.The chairs weren't the most comfortable either, and the tap was hard to turn off, in the kitchen..It just needed a bit more love and attention.

Cottage was lovely very clean and super comfortable bed unfortunaetly the yard was not big enough for my dog there is a picturd of the table on thd website and nothing describes the size i think it should state how tiny it is was no good for my dog and with the weather so hot it was no use

Spotlessly clean, really comfortable beds and very well equipped cottage.

Downside was the lack of parking anywhere near the cottage so having to park on other side of road at least 20 yards away. Also having to push open the heavy ill-fitting garden gate which was impossible to close and climb a few stone steps to reach front door was another inconvenience. I feel having no allocated parking on-site should have been mentioned in the advert as less able people or those with young children would have struggled. Apart from those two points we had no complaints with the accommodation.

We had the most delightful stay in the cottage.

Within walking distance to the village. Would most certainly like to stay again if we get back to the UK next year. Gloria Dray

Very prettily decorated cottage.

Very clean and comfortable. Efficient heating system which kept us cosy and warm. Nice walk into the village. Quiet and secluded cottage. Enjoyable holiday. Thank you to the owners.

Lovely homely little cottages with everything needed and more(books, games and maps)Nice touch with the welcome pack and the bonus of having a bath.

Very comfy beds and all the necessary kitchen equipment to facillitate home cooking if required.

We had a lovely stay, the cottage was comfortable and clean.

We thought it had been very nicely decorated, the bed was very comfortable and we appreciated the small touches like milk in fridge, delicious loaf and nice and warm on our arrival. Would stay again.

Lovely village with useful amenities.

Clean and comfortable cottage. It was a good base for the exploring area.

Great place to stay, quiet and peaceful.

Walking distance into the village, just a couple of minutes. Good location to explore other places. Would certainly stay again.

Lovely cottage.

Very clean with comfortable bed and nice linen. Small terrace only so if you have a dog you do need to take them out of the property for toileting . Area is very well served with small supermarket and good pub just few minutes walk. Parking opposite cottage is very convenient. Recommend the property it was great for a short break.

Lovely cottage but certain areas like the outside patio needs attention.

Minnow cottage was absolutely fantastic.

My wife and I plus our pet Smokey thoroughly enjoyed our week stay at this lovely cottage. The cottage has a seaside theme in a lot of the property which is so serene and peaceful to wake up to. The kitchen has everything you need and is decorated once again beautifully. Nikki has thought of everything to make everyone feel very welcome in this wonderful cottage. Malpas itself is a lovely village and one of my wife's favourite places. The weather was really warm and sunny and our whole experience was delightful. Thank you Nikki Paul Winters

Cosy cottage in a lovely, friendly village.

Clean, comfortable accommodation with all we needed for a perfect stay for the two of us with our little dog. Great welcome pack and very helpful information supplied by the owner. Location was perfect for visiting Chester, Shrewsbury, Liverpool and lots of beautiful local villages. Would definitely recommend this cottage and will be staying there again.

Lovely cottage and a great location.

We really enjoyed our stay at minnow cottage.

The cottage was clean, well equipped and comfortable. We slept well in the comfy bed. Malpas was a lovely village to explore. Parking wasn't a problem for us down the road. Thankyou

Excellent property ,very bright and clean, lovely decor, everything we needed for week stay, I would highly recommend

Great cottage, lovely and clean, central location.

Only gripe was the size of the back yard,- which was too small for my two dogs,- looked bigger on the photos!

Excellent stay in a very nice cottage - really comfortable Great area Super communication made everything so simple and easy

A lovely little cottage.

Even though it was on the roadside it was quiet at night. Steep steps up to it may put some off. Everything we needed was there and the loaf of bread was lovely.

This cottage was all it was said it would be.

My son and I had a very happy, comfortable week here and I have already started to recommend it to family and friends. It was in the ideal spot to visit places in the area that we had lived in 1970/80s Thank you for everything.

This was a warm, cosy and well located cottage.

..good shower/bath...Great wi-fi ...heating...and the bed was the most comfortable we have slept in for a long time....dont let the lack of parking at the cottage put you off...parking nearby.

'Smug and snug' sums up our week at this delightful cottage.

We felt so smug at having found it in such an excellent location as Malpas and we were really snug in such a warm house waking to frost covered countryside. The luxurious king size bed and super bedding were an added bonus. It made all the difference being able to bring our dog and to enjoy walking her on the surrounding footpaths and the field opposite. Malpas is a lovely friendly village with shops able to supply everything you need. Although Minnow Cottage does not have parking, we had no problem parking a short distance away on the Tilston Road so future guests should not be put off. We definitely recommend and would love to come back.

Minnow Cottage is a charming holiday property within easy walking distance of the shops and facilities of Malpas.

My husband and I found the cottage very clean, cosy and warm - ideal for a stay in Malpas. It was lovely to find a Welcome Pack of fresh local bread, Cheshire butter , biscuits and milk. The Owner was accessable and very helpful.

Lovely comfortable stay, would highly recommend

Lovely cottage in attractive village.

We have stayed here several times and always enjoy our stay. The cottage is very comfortable and well equipped.

Charming cottage almost in the village.

Bright and cheerful interior with very comfortable beds and quality bedding. Would loved to have lit the open fire but too warm when we visited.

A lovely cottage in a super location.

Comfortable and clean.Great information about the area supplied by a charming owner. All at good price! Excellent, many thanks.

A beautiful place to stay - warm and cosy, clean and very comfortable.

We felt very at home and greatly appreciated the welcome pack of bread, butter, milk and biscuits. We enjoyed the lovely open fire. The small village of Malpas was very friendly.

A lovely clean and comfortable cottage with all the facilities we needed.

Ideal location to walk into Malpas, just a five minute walk to a lovely cafe, The little Deli and The Lion pub, both dog friendly. Hope to be back again next year.

Really nice cottage, great for what we needed, very quite.

Thanks.

We met the owner and explained to him that arriving in the dark, we had great difficulty in finding the cottage as there was no name up or indication of where the property was.

Neighbours also did not know it. He promised to make sure the name was re-instated.

We found this property to be very Hygge, white brick walls, floorboards and lots of rugs and logs on the fire.

Walking distance of all amenities and great pub The Red Lion. This is a very restful and relaxing stay.

Nice cottage.

My main concern is that there are no smoke detectors in the property. Do Skyes not do an annual check? Two Carbon Monoxide detectors in kitchen with one having no batteries. Not good.! A previous visitor had pointed this out but owners seem to have ignored it. Small bedroom only big enough for a child. An airer would be useful for drying wet coats etc. More utensils needed in kitchen i.e.casserole dish with lid. Oven & grill need deep cleaning, was shocked when I opened oven door. Small coffee table in lounge area would be nice as there is nowhere to stand mugs etc when watching tv. Pity the parking situation isn't better. 100yds down the road is no joke when loading & unloading the car. Shower needs replacing. Bath mat needed as bath very slippery. Sorry to sound very negative but all these comments are genuine.

We really enjoyed our stay.

The cottage was very well presented in a great location. Lots of facilities in the village. We enjoyed our walks around Malpas. Had a lovely day in Chester by the river in the lovely hot and sunny weather. Malpas is a great base for exploring Cheshire and Shropshire.

We could not fault the cottage or its location.

Lots of lovely dog walks in stunning countryside and plenty of cafes and restaurants within easy reach.

Minnow Cottage was everything we could of wanted and more.

Set in a stunning countryside village, we were able to walk to the local shops and enjoy endless walks. The bed is AMAZING! We are already missing it, it was so comfy! Highly recommend this little cottage if you are wanting to explore Cheshire and beyond.

If you are browsing the listings and pondering on which is the best cottage to book, then simply book Minnow Cottage, you will totally love it.

We spent a week in Malpas, a village we had never heard of before, and found the people there to be so very friendly, they all say hello and smile as you walk down the street to the good range of village shops. The cottage is very pleasant indeed and well equipped. We were both working during our stay, and the wifi was perfect. It really did feel like a home from home. The kettle and shower pressure issues mentioned in some previous reviews have been corrected by the owner some time ago, so no longer a concern. The photos of the cottage on the listing are very accurate, it truly is that smart and impressive. It is super clean and immaculate too. There are some great tips and advice for visitors from the owner in a handbook at the cottage. We found that parking on the roadside is no issue at all, and most common throughout this quiet village. We tried out several of the local destinations recommended by the owner in the handbook, and can heartily recommend the Cholmondley Arms for dining, The Lion at Malpas too, and Chirk Castle/Viaduct for a trip out. Nearby Llangollen made for a beautiful day trip too. Would we stay at Minnow Cottage again? Absolutely!

Minnow Cottage is a warm, comfortable and well equipped holiday home and we very much enjoyed our stay.

Lovely, clean, comfortable cottage.

Very warm and cosy. All the equipment we might need, and a welcome pack too! No maps or books ( presumably Covid?) , but accurate local details on places to visit and dog friendly pubs. Also, the Lion at Malpas is now open, serves great food and is dog friendly. A great area to explore, with Chester not too far, and some great walks in the local countryside. Enjoyed it, thanks!

Minnow Cottage was just perfect, gorgeously furnished, the bed was comfy, the open fire wonderful for a winter's evening in, and the owners were brilliant - they left us some lovely bread, butter and biscuits for our arrival, and even checked in after Storm Arwen to make sure we hadn't lost power and were ok.

Will definitely go back if staying in the area again, Cheers! Paul and David

This was the first time my husband and I had been away for several years and I felt very anxious about staying somewhere else, I care for 2 clinically vulnerable parents and have been extra cautious.

My fears were put to one side upon arrival, the cottage was immaculate, clean, comfy, warm and just lovely. Nikki our host left a lovely welcome message, milk, fresh bakery bread, coffee and other useful items. Can't fault our stay, it was great. Would stay again without hesitation. 5

The cottage has been beautifully renovated and included lots of lovely touches.

The Cheshire butter and fresh bread were a lovely surprise on arrival. Would highly recommend.

Lovely cottage set within walking distance of a real friendly village.

Had a lovely breakfast at The Fire Station and drinks in the evening at The Lion. Ideal for dog owners as plenty of walks nearby. Shower was the only niggle as the water pressure is non existent. Thoroughly enjoyed our two night stay.

We had a really lovely stay at Minnow Cottage.

It was exceptionally clean and comfortable and in a very friendly village which was a great base for exploring the area.

A lovely cottage, cosy and comfortable.

Made to feel very welcome and it’s in a great village with lots of amenities within walking distance from cottage. Would recommend cottage to family and friends.

We really enjoyed our stay at Minnow Cottage, located in the delightful village of Malpas set within the lovely Cheshire countryside.

There are plenty of things to do in the area and Nikki had provided us with lots of helpful information and eating out recommendations well in advance of our stay. The cottage is very pretty and exceptionally clean. It has lots of character but with lovely modern touches and we slept really well in the very comfortable bed. It was very cosy to light the fire on a cold evening in October, although we would have loved some extra logs to be able to recreate this experience. Nikki delivered some fresh eggs to us during our stay, together with the coffee, tea, milk and cake were very welcome. Would definitely recommend to family and friends and happily stay again.

Excellent location for touring the area.

Nice range of places to eat in the town, now the Lion has opened. Superb list of local walks, and restaurant's left by the owner.

We really enjoyed our stay at Minnow Cottage, it was a lovely staycation in very friendly quant village of Malpas.

The cottage was beautifully decorted and very clean. We were welcomed with a care package of prosecco, fresh bread, milk and some nibbles. The area had lots of woodland walks, local shops and a great place for food called the Fire Station. Nikki sent us a really informative 'where to go and where to eat' list of places to try out and was always available for any advice. The only issue I would say is that the shower temperature was a bit temperamental. It was very tricky to get the right temperature without it being very hot or freezing. Perhaps having an electric shower put in would be a better solution. Would definitely recommend Minnow Cottage to all our family and friends and would rate it very high on one of places we have visited.

The property is as it is described and in excellent condition and state of cleanliness.

We were very satisfied with the property but would perhaps make a couple of suggested improvements. - As explained the shower in the bathroom is temperamental on temperature and very sensitive. A better electric power shower would be a real bonus. - A washing machine would be very useful. We had to use the local launderette to wash items while we were staying. - An electric kettle would be more convenient and environmentally sustainable than the gas hob kettle currently. we should stress that these are minor improvement suggestions and that the property is indeed lovely and well worth staying at. Malpas is a great little place and the folks are super friendly and hospitable. We would visit again for sure.

The cottage was lovely and clean , cosy but contemporary.

Malpas village was a joy, every you need. Nice dog walks and location was perfect for exploring the area around.

Booking was easy.

We received an email from Nikki the owner, explaining how to get there, where to park and the situation with the keys (in a combination locked key box next to the front door). There is a lay by opposite the cottage for loading and unloading only, but you can park 10-20meters down the road. This wasn't a problem at all. The cottage itself was clean and cosy. A lovely open planned living room/dinning room/kitchen with a very small walled back yard with a small table and two chairs. The owner left some food essentials (if you can call a bottle of prosecco an essential!!) including a wonderfully fresh loaf of bread. There was also tea bags, ground coffee, tub of humus, milk and butter. We stayed from a Tuesday through to a Saturday, and although we didn't spend much time in the cottage we wanted for nothing. The WiFi was adequate, the beds and bedding high quality and comfortable, the bathroom with full complement of towels, toilet roll and cleaning and some shower gel and shampoo. This is not a modern, hi-tech accommodation with power shower etc, but so well presented and maintained, and with so much character and charm that you felt relaxed as soon as you entered. Malpas itself is small, but The Old Fire Station is definitely worth a visit, as is the Fish and Chip shop and the local grocers. There is also a co-op. The pubs were all still closed for covid and there was another restaurant in town which we didn't try, but looked really nice. Chester was only 30min away, and there looked to be plenty of walks, if not in the direct area then certainly near by. We went for a wonder along the River Dee where apparently you can spot a Kingfisher and Otters early in the morning. Overall a lovely cottage that fulfilled all our needs for our short break.

Lovely cottage very clean and tidy great communication from the owner and a welcome fruit bread would highly recommend to anyone.

We stayed at Minnow cottage for 1 week on our way to Cornwall.

The property was spotless, extremely comfortable and with the open fire, extremely relaxing. Nikki had left some lovely little goodies for us upon arrival and were really appreciated. It was only 3 minutes walk into the village and it had a bakery, deli, wine bar, fish and chip shop, pub and other shops that provided for all your needs with an Indian restaurant only 5 mins drive. We enjoyed it that much we stayed for another week on our return journey. Would thoroughly recommend Minnow cottage and would not hesitate in returning when we restart our adventures next year. Dave and Sue Brereton.

It is a beautiful holiday home in which you miss nothing.

There were even food for the first day and the next morning brought us the landlady breakfast eggs over. We were very happy in the Minnow Cottage and will definitely come back.

Nice Bright Airy cottage, well equipped.

Very clean and located in the village centre. Chester is quite close by.

The accomodation is five star luxury, the cottage has everything you could want and more.

From the tea, coffee and welcome pack to the toiletries and a mattress so comfy you won't have to worry about any lost sleep more lost daylight. If you want a complete rest with home comforts this is the place to come. Perfect location for a perfect getaway.

We really enjoyed our stay at Minnow cottage.

It’s a charming and comfortable cottage in a peaceful village location. The owner was very helpful too. Would definitely book this cottage again.

Minnow Cottages is a lovely characterful cottage that suited our needs perfectly.

It was very clean and welcoming and the beds are extremely comfortable. We had a quick cup of tea when we arrived thanks to the supply of milk and and fresh local bread- and the fresh eggs that Nikki, the owner, delivered to us. There is a small co-op supermarket a short walk away. Malpas is an excellent location for touring both Wales and Cheshire and Nikki gave us helpful advice on local restaurants to try and where to visit.

The cottage was very comfortable and the owners very welcoming.

Lots of nice little touches throughout. We would definitely consider going back and would highly recommend staying. We only wish we had booked for longer.

Minnow Cottage is a lovely little cottage on the edge of the village.

A couple of minutes walk to the local shops and Old Fire Station Cafe which we frequented a couple of times and we'd highly recommend. It is roadside parking but for the whole week we had no problems parking close to the cottage. The cottage is well equipped, and we loved to sit out in the front on a sunny evening. We met the owner a couple of times who was very friendly and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed for an enjoyable stay. The cottage is well situated to visit either Chester or the Welsh countryside. If we ever visited that area again we would definitely consider booking Minnow Cottage and we would highly recommend the cottage to anyone else.
