  • "Heating wasn't working on arrival, bath not draining properly after shower."

Got sorted by Cleaning contact next day. Towels all smelt musty. No sheets on two double beds, quilt covers had been used which didn't tuck in and rucked up. General cleaning poor standard, kitchen floor grubby, toilet seat stained Unable to use bath as plug leaked and couldn't fill bath. Lovely house but felt uncared for.

Thank you, it is a lovely house and I'm sorry that you experienced some disappointment. Your concerns were discussed with my house manager at the time so thank you for giving me your feedback as it should never feel uncared for, it is a much loved family home. Property Owner

  • "This is a really fine property."

3 good sized bedrooms (only used 2). A good bathroom, and a downstairs lavatory. The downstairs rooms are all really excellent. The kitchen is very very good. Well stocked with crockery, pans and cutlery (not a common thing in many cottages). The front room is small but perfectly well laid out with comfortable chairs and a soft sofa. There is a good looking dining room too, though it wasn't needed as you could eat at the breakfast gallery bit of the kitchen. Although only 19 minutes walk from the station (we had no need for a car) there is a great vibrant area nearby in Hoole with better restaurants than the city centre. Being close to the station though makes it handy for travelling to the many destinations from Chester by rail and so even a rain soaked last 3 days couldn't stop the ability to travel and see things for a day out. Nothing spoilt the holiday. Any, and they were minor, issues were a problem of the handover team or letting agents. We texted with a couple of missing things (an oven glove and tea towels, which could have affected the self catering aspect of the holiday, and the owner promptly resolved everything personally. The place is perfectly clean. Some people have mentioned the welcoming pack. I never expect these but just as with our last Sykes property there wasn't one and so if the owner is paying extra to provide them they may wish to quiz the agents what is happening. More detail on things such as when each bin is dye to be put out would be useful. We judged it by the bins we saw being left out in the neighbourhood as we couldn't be sure. By coincidence, Scottish Power had dug up the road almost at the property in the week we were there, meaning the road was blocked off and the bin collection wasn't done anyway as a result.

Apologies for the delay in your enthusiastic feedback being published, I have no control over that and I hope that you didn't think that I had ignored you. It sounds as though you made the most of your time in Chester and I'm so pleased that you enjoyed staying at Brook Lane. That downstairs loo is really handy, especially for the chef. Having stayed at other properties myself I have struggled to cook for my family so keeping my own kitchen stocked is important, despite 'loosing' the odd key appliance. Laundry sometimes goes astray as it's done away from my house so items get left out, you did the right thing to contact Roxanne for replacements. Welcome letters and house information have now been placed in a bigger folder so they don't end up in the recycling bin. Thanks again for being considerate guests. Property Owner

  • "This property needs a full deep clean and refurbishment inside and out before it is rented out again."

We would have preferred a bottle of milk rather than a bottle of wine when we arrived. The photos are very misleading. After that the positives are, the kitchen is bright and modern, off street parking is always a plus and there's a local bus on the corner of the street that gets you to Chester in a matter of minutes. We was refunded a small amount of money after our very disappointing stay and Sykes's dealt with our concerns really effectively and quickly.

Thank you for your feedback, we're pleased that you enjoyed the location, off-street parking and bright, modern kitchen. Thank you for your input, I have looked into why the house was in need of a deep clean as several services do attend the property regularly and this should now have been rectified. I apologise for any disappointment with any aspects of your stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future. Property Owner

  • "We absolutely loved this house- its quirkiness, colour schemes, art work, interior decor, warmth and comfort."

We would definitely like to come again. Chester is a beautiful historical city and our local shopping centre , Hoole, was fascinating. We loved the coffee shops and boutiques. We were sad to leave. Can I just say- the microwave is broken but we hardly needed it except for my daughters hot chocolate!!

I’m happy to hear that you loved my house and had an interesting stay. It is important to me that you felt comfortable and at home during your visit. We love Hoole too, it’s good to hear that you found your way around, it’s such an interesting city. We are both artists and a fair bit of that work is our own. Thanks for letting me know about the microwave, a replacement is ready, I appreciate your positive feedback and look forward to your return. Property Owner

CHESTER

Liverpool 17 miles; Manchester 36 miles.

Chester has quite rightly been described as 'the jewel of the North-West of England'. Perhaps the most fascinating aspect of the city is that within a very small area there is evidence of every period of history - from the old walls and amphitheatre of Roman times, through medieval churches, Elizabethan timber-framed townhouses and Georgian terraces, to Victorian restorations and 21st century architecture. The city has much to offer the tourist, including excellent shopping in and around the famous Tudor 'Rows' and lovely walks along the Roman Walls, beside the River Dee and through the picturesque Grosvenor Park. Explore Chester's beautiful medieval cathedral, visit Chester Racecourse or spend a day at the world renowned Chester Zoo. Further afield, the stunning Welsh mountains and coastline, the quaint market towns and villages of Cheshire and the Wirral Peninsula with its first class golf courses, are all within easy touring distance, whilst frequent rail services make Liverpool, Manchester and the North Wales coast readily accessible.
