What guests are saying
lovely place , we keepcoming back
The property has a great location next to a pub, canal and close to the aqueduct, however, we found it wasn't that pleasant to stay here and we wouldn't stay again or recommend it.
We found the 2 main issues with this property we're the poor state of repair and cleanliness. These included 1. An underlying smell of damp in the whole property. When opening any cupboard doors, you got a strong damp/musty smell. 2. A rotten kitchen floor under the lino; the floor gives & moves in places when you walk on it. 3. Some walls being in a poor state with damaged areas, dirt, some mould & chipped paint. 4. Bath panel tiles look about to fall off & the bathroom is in a poor state including some mould. 5. It wasn't possible to close the bathroom window as the handle is welded in one direction and its impossible to open many of the other windows 6. The kitchen cupboards need some tlc/attention 7. Poor cleanliness which included several cobwebs around the property, a filthy floor behind the lounge sofas (my son lost his toy there), the backs of the TVs being caked in dust and a freezer which was caked in ice and hadn't been defrosted for months. 8. No welcome info/file or leaflets for guests. Just two post it notes on a cork board for the gate code & rubbish instructions and a note for the dog bits for guests use that wasn't even legible! We realise this property is old being Grade 2 listed, however we live in a Grade 2 listed property ourselves, so we felt this wasn't an excuse for the poor state of repair & general neglect of the property, most of which could be rectified with some investment. If this property was invested in to rectify the issues, update the kitchen & bathroom, given a deep clean & kept well maintained going forward, it could be lovely.
The cottage is in a fantastic place, being right by the aqueduct and surrounded by lovely scenery.
It is also in the grounds of a pub. It is an attractive old cottage but it needs some updating, especially the bathroom. The fridge did not work when we arrived, even though the light was on. Therefore we had to throw away a large amount of food we bought for our stay. Although I phoned the owner, he didn’t get back to us with a new fridge. I understand he has replaced it now. The bed upstairs was not very comfy. The kitchen and sitting room was ok.
