The property is very small which we knew but that was fine it was a base to explore that part of Cornwall we had no intention of cooking so didn’t worry about the kitchen set up I do think that it would be nice if you updated the property listing as there is no pub and hasn’t been for quite a while and no beach cafe so nothing left in porthallow

Thank you for your feedback. Unfortunately the local pub is up for sale and we are hoping that it will soon have new owners. There are two pubs just up the road in St Keverne that serve evening meals and Fat Apples, a short walk away in Porthallow, offers great breakfasts and lunches. There is also a beach cafe that serves evening meals in high season . The agent has been asked to update the listing and has contacted all booked guests to let them know about the pub being closed. • "Immaculately maintained, tiny characterful property."

The Old Stable had everything we needed for a comfortable week away, although I would not think a longer stay would be practicable owing to the basic cooking facilities (a portable two ring electric hob and microwave) and just a tumble drier meaning handwashing lighter items of clothing, finding a laundrette or bringing lots of stuff. We appreciated the good quality tea, coffee bags and biscuits which are the hallmark of a thoughtful and welcoming host. Towels and tea towels are provided but bring your own beach towels. The bed on its little gallery is comfortable but we found moving the rolling steps to and fro in order to cook then wash up a bit of a faff, be aware they are quite heavy with steel handrails and glass panels. We knew about this arrangement, and it wouldn't put us off staying here again. No outside space of course, which we also knew about, but the quiet beach is adjacent and is one of our favourites on the Lizard. The Five Pilchards pub, which in the past has done good pub food, has closed down and is for sale but we had a great meal at the beach café next door. I know people rave about the Fat Apples café just up the lane but every time we went past we had just missed it being open. It shuts promptly at 5 pm. Our dog enjoyed staying here and we were glad she couldn't get up the steep steps and attempt to climb onto the bed to find us, which she sometimes does in an unfamiliar house. She had to stay in her own dog bed. She knew where we were and could see us so she was content. This was a definite plus for us.

The Old Stable is indeed tiny but I'm glad you found it comfortable ! It's good to hear that your dog settled in her bed and liked the open plan arrangement. Whilst we are hoping the pub will soon find new owners, and is currently shut, Fat Apples, a short walk away serves excellent breakfast and lunches, and afternoon tea and cakes. Property Owner

  • "The cottage itself is perfect."

So cozy and perfect for spending quality time in a beautiful setting. The bed is fantastically comfortable and we slept so well. Wet room is newly refurbished and very adequate. It is worth noting that the local pub is permanently closed which isn’t obvious by google search. Since there is no pub or shop within walking distance I definitely would pack enough food to avoid having to drive out of town for every meal.

  • "We loved The Old Stable for its proximity to the beach."

It was small but well appointed. The owner, Marji, was helpful and kind when we had a query. We had a wonderful week there. Thank you.

  • "Thank you Margi for a wonderful stay in this cosy Old Stable!"

Such a picturesque village in the heart of Cornwall, with plenty of sea swimming, coastal walks and warming pubs. The cottage itself was such a sweet bolthole, and Margi provided great communication throughout my stay, explaining that the issues with the extractor fans will be fixed soon and providing a dehumidifier as an alternative. The property was super clean, apart from some remnant dog hair from the previous visitor.

Thank you very much for your feedback, Ella and I'm glad you enjoyed your stay. My apologies that you found some dog hair, this will be addressed. Property Owner

Cute, compact and quaint literally one minute walk to the beach and pub! Set within a beautiful friendly village. What a treasure this was to find.

Thank you so much for your feedback, I'm delighted you enjoyed the Old Stable and the village of Porthallow- we think it's a rather special place too. Property Owner

Quirky little place to stay, cosy and comfy and right near the beach which was great, shower was amazing ,the bed was super comfy, the electric heating was very warm and cosy, the extractor fans need to be looked at has were not working , but overall we had a great experience staying at The Old Stable and we would recommend Thankyou

Thank you for your feedback and we are delighted that you enjoyed your stay at the Old Stable. We will have another look at the extractor fans and get them working or replaced - thank you for the heads up. Property Owner

  • "Great place to retreat to."

My only concern is that all the extractor fans need to be serviced, especially in the wet room. Being a small but pleasant space to reside in it does suffer with condensation which when taking a shower or with heating on tends to makes things a little damp. Otherwise this beauty is definitely on my quirky places to stay.

Thank you for your feedback and I am glad you enjoyed the peace and quiet of the Old Stable . I am sorry that the ventilation fans were not working - I thought we had sorted that problem - but we must take another look! Property Owner

  • "We had a lovely stay and really enjoyed the novelty of this quirky accommodation."

The cottage was well equipped and comfortable with everything we needed. However, there is a clear mould problem affecting the wall beside the bed and going down into the bathroom below, which needs dealing with. Mould and mildew spray would do the job. Having two of the three ventilation fans not working probably doesn’t help. The local pub wasn’t serving food.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I am glad you had a lovely stay and enjoyed the quirkiness of the Old Stable .We always value guest feedback, so we can keep things up to scratch. I am so sorry that the accommodation was showing signs of mildew - we have now had a deep clean using anti-mould spray so hopefully this has dealt with the problem. Thank you for also letting me know about the ventilation fan- it is now working. I believe the local pub is struggling to find a good chef. I do hope this will not be an ongoing issue, but sadly it's beyond our control. There are other options available for eating out locally. Property Owner

  • "Myself and my partner had a wonderful three day break."

I wanted a cottage where we could escape the hustle and bustle, a place where you can really connect with a loved one, with no phones, social media and the rest of the modern distractions we have have today - and that is what we got with this very intimate cottage. (WiFi is available I will mention, we decided against using it as much as possible however.) Our little pooch enjoyed his stay and all of his walks around the bay which was a massive plus. Would definitely stay again!

Thank you for your lovely feedback. The Old Stable is certainly intimate (it's very tiny) but I am so glad you and your pooch enjoyed your stay. Property Owner

  • "The village is delightful and unspoiled and the cottage is two minutes from the beach."

The cottage is accurately described as small which we got used to as we only slept and ate there- we were walking the coast path. Cooking facilities are limited but as described and the bed comfortable. Parking in the village was no problem. The pub was closed for the month -unusual we were told - but there is a good beach cafe/bistro open part of the week WiFi was reliable if one needs it. We enjoyed our stay.

  • "The property is simply not practical or big enough."

There is no storage space and the bedroom is ridiculously small and very uncomfortable. The facilities are pretty much unusable because the stairs are always in the way. It was described as quirky but in reality it was uncomfortable and unusable and resulted in us leaving 2 days early. I would recommend single night stays only and a total re-think of the layout and facilities

Thank you for taking the time to leave your feedback, we’re really sad to learn you were disappointed on this occasion. The accuracy of our descriptions and photographs are very important to us and on reviewing the details we really don’t think we could make it any clearer what to expect when staying here. The Old Stable is a quirky, cosy and compact property and exactly as you see in the pictures. As can be seen in other feedback, happily other visitors have very much enjoyed their stays here. Our reservations team are always on hand and happy to help with any queries you might have when booking to help you ensure you pick the right place for you. The port was quiet and friendly. Just a little note, and really not an issue, a new non stick frying pan is needed and there is a slight problem with the drainage of the hand basin in the shower room. Such a lovely holiday, many thanks and so many memories made. Will hopefully be back again. Thankyou.

Thank you so much for your feedback. We have a new frying pan and the plumber has cleared the basin drain- and we're so glad you enjoyed your holiday. Property Owner
