  • "For a cottage sleeping x 4 people, the water supply was very poor indeed (put one tap on and lucky to get anything elsewhere), sometimes with dirty water through the cold feed, the internet access was not good, no entrance mat into the cottage direct from the garden (a problem with dogs, given the lawn was overgrown and mown on our 4th day there), no drying facilities (although a washing m/c is there - which broke down, fridge much too small."

Beds were comfortable and linen very clean. Biggest issue was that arrivals are at teatime on Saturdays and any issues discovered after settling in, one is unable to speak with anyone at Sykes until the Monday, our issues we did not regard as an 'emergency' so where does one go in the meantime as the property reference material not comprehensive enough.

Thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We're pleased to hear you found the beds comfortable and the linen clean, but we're sorry that several aspects of your stay did not meet expectations. We appreciate your comments regarding the water pressure, internet connectivity, garden maintenance, appliance issues and the lack of drying facilities. Guest feedback is invaluable in helping us identify areas where improvements can be made, and we have shared your observations with the relevant teams. We're also sorry to hear of your frustration in trying to find the right support over the weekend. While emergency assistance is available outside of office hours, we understand that some concerns may not fall into that category but can still impact your enjoyment of a stay. We appreciate your comments regarding the property information provided and will review this to ensure guests have clearer guidance on where to seek assistance should issues arise. Thank you again for your feedback. We hope that, despite these concerns, you were able to enjoy some aspects of your time at the cottage and the surrounding area. Property Owner

The property

Little Trethellan is a detached holiday home set in the quiet hamlet of Trethellan, close to the village of Lanner in Cornwall.

Arranged across a single storey, the property offers a relaxed and practical layout, making it a good choice for couples or small families, including those bringing a dog (or three!) along.

Its rural setting places you within easy reach of both the Cornish coast and inland walking routes.

The open-plan living area brings together the kitchen, dining and sitting spaces in one sociable room.

The kitchen is equipped with everything needed for a self-catered stay, including an oven, hob, fridge, freezer, kettle and toaster, allowing you to prepare meals with ease, while wooden fixtures add character to the space.

There’s a dining table for shared mealtimes, while the sitting area provides two comfortable sofas, inviting you to sink in beside the woodburning stove and flick on the TV after a day of exploring, with exposed beams and tiled flooring adding character throughout.

The accommodation includes two bedrooms, one with a super-king-size bed and the other a double, offering flexible sleeping arrangements.

A family bathroom completes the interior, fitted with a bath and shower over, basin and WC.

Outside, the attractive stone exterior complements the rural setting, while the enclosed garden features a neat lawn and a patio with furniture, giving you a private space to enjoy a drink in the fresh air or unwind in the evening.

Off-road parking is available, adding to the convenience of your stay.

The surrounding countryside offers quiet lanes and footpaths, ideal for dog walking and gentle exploration straight from the door.

While Stithians Lake provides a fantastic day out with a wide range of watersports, alongside scenic off-road walking and cycling routes.

For those keen to explore on foot or by bike, a public footpath located directly opposite the property leads to an extensive network of off-road trails.

This includes access to the well-known Kernow Way cycling route, which stretches through beautiful Cornish countryside to the coast at Portreath, as well as the historic Mineral Tramways, offering miles of routes rich in the area’s mining heritage.

Redruth is a short drive away and provides a selection of shops, cafés and pubs, while the nearby village of Lanner also has local amenities.

For coastal days out, Portreath is within easy reach, known for its sandy beach and access to the South West Coast Path.

St Agnes offers dramatic clifftop scenery and independent shops, while Falmouth is slightly further afield and well worth a visit for its beaches, galleries and maritime history.

Tehidy Country Park and the cathedral city of Truro are also close by, offering further options for days out.

Little Trethellan provides a well-placed base for discovering Cornwall’s varied landscapes and charming towns.

Note: This property has a Good Housekeeping bond of £250.

LANNER

Redruth 2 miles; Falmouth 9 miles; Portreath 7 miles.

Just outside Redruth on the road towards Falmouth, Lanner was once part of Cornwall’s mining epicentre. Today, the village is welcoming and friendly, with a number of convenience stores, a well-stocked petrol station, a bakery selling excellent Cornish pasties, a village hall and several good pubs, including the Coppice public house and the Fox and Hounds, both of which serve traditional pub fare. You'll also find a garden centre that serves breakfast and lunch for hungry visitors. Numerous cycling trails can be found in Lanner, along with Carn Marth that overlooks Lanner village and the coastline from its hilltop location; a former granite quarry, this site now hosts a small, open-air theatre with performances held throughout the summer. In neighbouring Redruth, you will find a multi-screen cinema, whilst in nearby Carn Brea, you will find a former medieval castle (now a restaurant), which once belonged to Lord Bassett, the most influential mine owner in the area during the 18th and 19th centuries. The beaches at Portreath and Porthtowan are just a short drive from Lanner, and there are several off-road cycle trails in the area, including the Coast to Coast Trail which follows the original tramway from Portreath on the north coast to Devoran on the south.
