Dusty/dirty windowsills, lots of flys inside the property. bed sheet in the master bedroom had a big black stain on it, looked like it was probably a mould patch. The shower head also had black mould on it - so have photo’s if you’d like them?

  • "This property has such great potential but sadly it suffers like a typical, poorly managed rental."

Old, tired and dirty. The bathroom is filthy with mould (probably a health and safety issue), broken fixings, flaking paint and dirty grout. You can see where the owners have had painters in but the paint stops near the windows as whoever carried out tge work couldn't be bothered to paint up to the windows properly. Lots of flaking paint and rotten, bodged skirting boards throughout. Although the property once had an alarm, this was clearly very old and not working. The door locks and security were very, very poor. Any opportunist burglar would have no problem. The walls by the sliding doors showed signs of damp, flaking paint and looked awful. The electricity sockets used a 4 bank extension which looked overloaded. The windows had grime and cobwebs, a snail and dead insects all over them. The property suffered with lots of spiders. Finally, there wasn't even a clothes horse, I had to go and buy one. No I don't want my clothes outside on a line. The restaurant next door was closed and looked derelict, which brought the area down. Quite depressing to see, at the height of Summer. I write this critique, not to be negative but to highlight issues and observations, most of which could be easily addressed. This could be a fantastic holiday destination, it just needs the love and attention, rather than letting it go and relying on the location alone. Obviously the location is fantastic and with a refurb to address the decay within the property, this could be 5 stars.

  • "We chose Sea Houses because my elderly mother has mobility issues Property was ideal as was location with the cycle path to Penzance and Marazion on the doorstep -ideal for using her mobility scooter The beds were comfy , nice bed linen and towels provided , and the welcome pack and milk provided on arrival was appreciated."

Overall the property was very clean , however although the floors looked clean when we walked barefoot our feet and the bottoms of Mums slippers got very dirty . They probably need a deep clean / wash rather than just a sweep over. We did have a problem with the bathroom .We specifically chose Sea Horses as it had a walk in shower but this was very small and not suitable for my elderly Mother . Also the shower head was very high in the ceiling, with very little adjustability and the control dial was so stiff we had difficulty turning it on/ adjusting the temperature. There was nowhere to put shower gel etc and not easy to put on floor due to lack of space - we resorted to buying a cheap suction one and have left this for others to use There was also an issue with the fridge -everything kept getting wet because water was dripping from back - we subsequently found there was a load of ice build up completing blocking the drainage hole at the back which we removed but a couple of days later it had frozen up again - think there may be an issue with the thermostat. Overall we had a very enjoyable stay and would certainly stay here again but not in this bungalow - would choose one of the others on site with a shower over the bath instead.

Next to the beach and within walking distance of Penzance and local amenities. The property was very clean and well maintained. Loved the welcome pack with local products. The only problem we encountered was we fetched a couple of DVDs to watch on an evening but the DVD player in the property was a scart lead connection and the tv was HDMI only so was not connected.

  • "Ants Ants and more Ants !"

! However, I understand that ants are out of anybody’s control and this was dealt with promptly once I made a call to Sykes, on arrival at the property I immediately noticed that most of the kitchen cupboards had food remnants and leftovers in them, the freezer was unusable until I had defrosted it, Ants all over the work surfaces, dishwasher full of plates and cutlery and cobwebs around the windows, this unfortunately made me spend my first afternoon cleaning. Bedrooms were very tidy and clean and comfortable with plenty of storage for our clothes. The bathroom was let down by the shower not draining, I had read about this in reviews from early this year so instantly assumed it would be rectified by now, any longer than 3 minutes and the shower tray was overflowing onto the floor which in turn creates a slip hazard. Overall the property was located perfectly next to the beach and close to all amenities, spacious, well equipped and comfortable, we would love to stay again once this property has been given some TLC.

Seahorses had everything we needed and was a brilliant base for us to explore the surrounding area. The cleaners were very accommodating as we arrived early after travelling for 9 hours from Suffolk. I would definitely stay here again and have already recommended this property to family and friends. The location and views are outstanding. I couldn’t have picked a better property or location for our family holiday to Cornwall.

The freezer is not working correctly, the shower water takes far too long to drain away, the toilet seat is not secured correctly and the patio door locking mechanism needs attention. A great place let down by a few minor things which could be easily sorted, considering the price paid.

Very clean and comfortable, no toilet paper on arrival which was a bit inconvenient, wish I’d of known. Train track was not mentioned as far as I could see, we were lucky it was the strike week. We did have a lovely stay though and these couple of things did not spoil. Location is fantastic and view of at Micheal’s mount was wonderful.

It was well laid out and the sea view was brilliant. My only concerns were the shower was a touch small but we did manage and the dryer didnt work but it didnt spoil our holiday, the iron broke but after a quick phone call it was replaced within minutes thank you. We were well situated for everything we wanted to do and it was a bonus that we could use the buses and our bus passes so my husband didnt have to drive everywhere. We would definately recommend to anyone wanting a peaceful getaway.

It's just next to the coastal path and so there is a lack of privacy with lots of people walking, cycling and running along the path. But it provides lovely views of the beach, sea and St Michael's Mount. The bungalow was clean but the freezer door doesn't shut properly if you're not careful. We had to defrost the whole freezer to get it to work. There were also no spare rubbish bin bags in case we needed any. No wifi.

  • "On the first full day, my son had opened the bedroom window only to find that it was so old and warped that it wouldn't close."

I had to contact the owner who said she would send someone round to fix it. As we could not go out for the day and leave the ground floor window open with all our possessions in the property we had to stay in and wait for the repair person to turn up. When he arrived in the afternoon he said he couldn't fix it but hammered it shut, meaning that for most of the holiday my sons had to sleep in their bedroom with the window shut. The property was clearly not in a fit state of maintenance to be hired out. I have yet to be offered any kind of redress from either Sykes Cottages or the owner.

  • "We love the location of the property which is why we keep returning."

The property is very comfortable. We noticed that the property had been decorated in places since our last visit as well as a new floor, new sofas, a new microwave, new pictures and a coffee machine (which we didn't use). We also enjoyed the scones, cream and jam upon our arrival and appreciated the pint of milk in the fridge. We also loved the fleece blankets. However - as in previous years, the cleanliness of the property could have been better. The floor needs to be swept/hoovered and mopped on each changeover clean, especially the corners and the edges. (I swept throughout upon arrival and was horrified at the amount of dirt and dust that I swept into the dust pan) Already, there are many coffee spots stuck to the new floor. There was still the same chewing gum on top of the wardrobes (same as last year) and a large amount of dust on all surfaces throughout. We could not find any instructions for the washer/drier or the microwave. The only bowls we could find were the cereal/dessert bowls which weren't necessarily suitable for cooking vegetables in, in the microwave (I'm sure there were a couple of pyrex bowls there on previous visits) and the brown handled vegetable knife that was there before was no longer there. We've not booked this property for next year although we have already booked a different property on the same complex and are looking forward to returning to one of our favourite places.

The Sea Horses bungalow was an ideal choice for our short break, myself and 13 year old daughter, also our first time not using an hotel. We arrived at 3.30pm and entered the property without any trouble, everything was detailed well in the email. The bungalow itself is a very good size and would sleep four easily with plenty of living space. The linen was spotless and we had been advised to by others to take tea towel etc. I have to say we didn't need it or anything extra, everything was provided - even a bottle opener. Also a nice touch was the milk in the fridge, tea bags and biscuits! Big bright bathroom, well equipped kitchen and TV / DVD. Good heating system with plenty of piping hot water. Parking for two vehicles and once parked that is it. The place is ideally situated for St Michael's Mount, Marazion etc but also the SW Coast path to Penzance. We loved the location which was literally a stones throw from the beach and to hear the waves crashing was fabulous. I would highly recommend staying here.

  • "The whole week was thoroughly enjoyable - allowing us to be as energetic or relaxed as we wanted."

Everything had been thought of, even to the tea, milk and biscuits awaiting us on our arrival. We had a slight problem opening the keysafe to get in (the rubber cover was damaged), but it was a good way to get to meet our neighbours! The location was beautiful, right behind the coast path and with beautiful views of St. Michael's Mount and the bay. We were a little taken aback by the trains whistling past our front door (well, almost), as we didn't recall them being mentioned before we booked, but we soon got used to them. The local pub, just a few steps from our garden wall, whilst a little 'dated', served good food with plentiful servings and the staff were very friendly and personable. And despite being the end of September, the weather did not let us down either, so we were able to get out and about, checking out old haunts and finding a few new ones. All in all, a very enjoyable and relaxing break and grateful thanks to all connected with the site, from the management to the friendly, helpful cleaners and the hard-working man who spends so much time maintaining the site itself. We hope to be back soon.

The only issue we had was with the patio doors which we couldn’t lock and therefore use, despite assurances made by the owner these were not fixed and we also received no response when we asked about progress with this issue. On the day of departure ( 10 am departure time) they were already cleaning the windows while we were packing so it felt like we were being ‘chased’ out. Would despite the above still return.
