  • "We have been coming to Coverack for many years, however, our previous ‘home’ in Coverack was sold last year."

We were very apprehensive about taking an alternative property as it had a lot to live up to, however Lower Mellan Barn did not disappoint. It didn’t have the panoramic sea view we were used to, but everything else about the property was of a high quality and made our stay really comfortable and enjoyable. We were pleasantly surprised how quickly we could get to the beach using the little path and loved the patio areas. The only slight thing was that the internet was very slow, but not really an issue for us on this occasion as no one needed to work. Thank you for a wonderful week, we hope to be back next year.

Many thanks for your review. We are so glad that you enjoyed your stay! Property Owner

  • "Lovely property it's quiet and well situated for swimming in Coverack which is a fantastic spot."

The cottage is lovely and copes with 9 people well, it is showing signs of wear and tear after I guess a number of years as a rental. Sykes Cottages however leave something to be desired as a letting agent. We booked in with 3 kids and 6 adults but the beds were all made up as doubles. In theory no drama but in practice when we finally got through to the help line, no help or single duvet covers were forthcoming. We were told nothing could be done and we bought some ourselves, not ideal.

  • "The property was in a beautiful location and just a short walk to the beach and harbour."

It's a very large property which can easily accommodate a large family/group of friends. On initial inspection the property looked very clean and maintained. However, closer inspection showed a few areas that needed addressing. 1. There are many marks/dents/scratches around the property. We did video these to provide proof that they were there before we arrived. 2. The living room carpet doesn't meet at the edge and is all frayed - be careful when stepping out the door so you don't catch your foot in it. 3. The living room windows in particular are so smeared that they are difficult to see through when the sun shines on them. 4. Went to use the bath only to have dirty brown water gushing up through the plughole - would not use after that. 5. The larger ensuite bedroom has a foul smell coming from the shower drain - did not want to investigate. 6. In the same bedroom, not noticed until we stripped the bedding to leave, the duvet cover that was tucked in at the bottom of the bed had blood on it. Absolutely awful. Wish I had known this before the bed was slept in. Randomly at 1.30am the entire household was woken up by the doorbell ringing - quite concerning as nobody there on inspection. The details on checking out etc need to be updated in the guest book. The playroom adjoining the living room would be great as a bedroom for a disabled person as they wouldn't be able to access the bedrooms downstairs. The WiFi needs an extender for downstairs as the WiFi doesn't reach the bedrooms. These may seem like minor issues to some but cleanliness is very important to me - I like to feel that a property has been well cared for. This house felt a bit unloved. There is a cut through to the side of the house which leads into the village so you don't have to walk on the road which is great. Just be careful as the stones are quite slippy when wet.

  • "On both occasions we've used Sykes it has been challenging to contact customer services to speak with someone who can actually help us."

Not offering a recycling service alongside rubbish collection is a massive negative.

  • "Evermore fabulous than we remembered from last year!"

! It would be good if there was a lock on the shared bathroom door and their dishwasher is challenging but other than that the house is perfect for our large family and children - the playroom is AMAZING!!!!! We will be back next year!!

  • "The house itself is a practical home for a holiday rental."

It is well presented and was very clean and tidy upon arrival. The location is quiet and peaceful, with plenty of parking. The garden is fully enclosed so suitable for our dogs to hava a scamper about, and it has a nice big balcony from the house that overlooks it. The well equipped utility room with washer, dryer, airing horse, iron etc is really useful. The house just lacks style and a few Personal touches and is fairly bland. There is an absense of a coffee machine & blender in the kitchen plus basics such as oil, salt & pepper grinders etc that you would expect in a property at this price point. The games room is a waste of space really, the table football was broken so not useable. It could be a really greet teenage den with just a little more imagination and effort so it feels like an opportunity missed. Overall a comfortable and easy stay in a clean and practical property in a really nice, friendly village.

  • "Fantastic house and location, loved Coverack."

Brilliant for dogs as well. Everything you could possibly need for a lovely holiday. Only niggle was the Wi-Fi, as was very slow but guess that is the area, however that is a minor thing as everything else was perfect. Thank you.

You are most welcome. Thank you for your feedback. We will take your comments on board. Property Owner

About the location

COVERACK

St Keverne 2.3 miles; Helston 11.6 miles; Falmouth 18.5 miles.

Coverack is a small fishing village on the Lizard Peninsula, a few miles from Lizard Point in Cornwall, the most southerly point on mainland Britain. Coverack is a beautiful and peaceful place to escape the main tourist routes and offers a beach in the sheltered bay, which is ideal for swimming, windsurfing, and kayaking, as well as shops, pub, and restaurants. Further amenities lie in St Keverne, which has a post office, shops and 2 traditional pubs. The Lizard Peninsula has many spectacular coves and beaches and is noted for its rare geology and plants. From Lizard Point there are wonderful sea views from the windswept cliffs, which provide fabulous walking opportunities along this stretch of the South West Coast Path. Inland is the market town of Helston, known for its Flora Day Festival, and in Gweek is The Cornish Seal Sanctuary, whilst approximately ten miles away is the Culdrose Airfield, where once a year the public are welcome to come and meet the Fleet Air Arm, the Royal Navy’s flying force. Coverack is ideally located for exploring The Lizard Peninsula, as well as the lovely seaside towns of St Ives and Falmouth and many other beaches and pretty villages.
