  • "I would absolutely stay at this cottage again and generally things were a very high standard, however there are some minor things which could be improved."

Firstly, although I don’t expect a ‘welcome pack’ when I stay away, it does seem odd to have a coffee pod machine without even one pod to get you started (or indicate the type of pod required!) Similarly, there were very nice tea, coffee and sugar canisters… all empty. In fact all that was in the kitchen was salt and pepper. It is standard to have at least cooking oil available. In addition, they had premium bakeware, but I discovered when going to remove it from the oven that there were no oven gloves. (Incidentally in the very comprehensive book of instruction manuals the oven is the only one not included). Also strangely the sky box had a parental lock on it. We couldn’t remove this as it didn’t seem to be noted anywhere. I would also suggest mentioning that the property isn’t suitable if you have any accessibility issues - the stairs are very steep and only have a rail on one side. There’s also a very small and not very visible step to the living room which we kept stumbling on. (Not the cottages fault!) The listing states that there is space for two cars on the gravel driveway, however when we stayed there was a large van parked on the gravel most of the time. This made manoeuvring back out onto the road tricky at times. These are minor details as the standard was generally very high and we enjoyed our stay.

Hi I’m glad you enjoyed your stay at my cottage, I’m sorry you have so many grievances with such minor issues , the cottage is although recently refurbished at least a 150 years old and the layout is what it is accessibility was not a consideration in 1850 . The sky lock must have been placed on by previous guests a phone call to me / Sykes would have resolved this ,as for kitchen gloves once again people seem to like taking these as perhaps a momento ? I’ve replaced them once already this year . The parking is adequate for two vehicles the drive again was not a consideration in 1850 And the camper van which mentioned is legally parked on the owners property. The description of the property should be read through throughly before booking your next stay as this could help you a lot . Property Owner

  • "We arrived to the cottage just after 3."

00pm Sunday afternoon. When passing through the rear gate we were confronted by a strong smell, it was apparent it was coming from the various waste bins. On entering the property we immediately read the information booklet which stated that the bins required leaving at the rear gate, and collection day was Monday. With this in mind I went to move the bins to the gate for collection the next day. As I moved the large black waste bag/sack a rat ran out from underneath and scurried under the shed, also I was covered in all types of flies. It was clear the bins hadn't been emptied in weeks. Not the way I envisaged to start my holiday. Being unable to contact the owners, I contacted Sykes but got no adequate response. In order to try and resolve the issue i read through the information booklet. There were six 'bins' in total no information as to which bins should be put out and on what date. However, on speaking with the lady living in the adjoining property she advised of what bins were due for collection that week and that collection day was in fact Tuesdays. She also said the bins would not be collected from the rear gate and we were to place them at the end of the drive. Thus explaining why none had been emptied for a number of weeks. The main problem was the general waste bin and sack. The bin was already overflowing on our arrival so we were unable to use that. Reluctantly on our last day we placed our black rubbish bag in the black sack, this being the sack the rat had gnawed into. I have to say the inside of the property was lovely and very clean. The outdoor space could also do with some maintenance. The patio and paths were full of weeds. The length of the grass at the top of the garden was also very long which was not helpful when trying to locate the area where our dog had done her business.

Thank you highlighting these issues to me I have as of today hired a new garden contractor to oversee the maintenance and to ensure that the waste bins are being put out correctly for collection. Had I actually been notified by Sykes? I would’ve dealt with this very promptly. I was totally unaware that there was an issue with either the garden or the bins. I’m sorry if this affected your holiday I can assure you that now this has been brought to my attention the issues are being dealt with Thank you. Property Owner

  • "We did not enjoy our stay in this accommodation."

I would not want to stay there again. Heating and hot water did not work on arrival - we had been walking all day and all would have liked a shower. One of us was a heating engineer - with helpful conversations (on the following day - delaying our walk) with owner our guy fixed problem - Boiler reset / pressurize. One cramped WC to ratio to beds is a problem (a lot of people would find this difficult to use). There was no welcome package as other Airbnb's that we had stayed at ie Tea / Coffee / Sugar / Milk. In addition there was a washing machine / dishwasher but no appropriate detergent - All mean. Layout photos well, but actually living space does not work. Style over substance. So much seems to have been overlooked leaving one with only conclusion being that how much can be got for letting the property being the main criteria, with little regard for the customers. Very disappointing.

  • "Lovely little cottage in close proximity to all town facilities and easy drive to Cornwall's attractions."

Only minus point - there should be a mirror in each bedroom not just the main one - not convenient for all guests to keep using the one mirror for make up and hair drying/combing. Also guests should be aware that the bathroom and toilet are both very small and not suited to larger people. Otherwise very comfortable and well furnished. We will use it again.

Accommodation was clean with everything on hand. When we had problems getting child bars lifted on TV this was rectified by the agency and the owner phoned to make sure the situation was resolved. Would book again

  • "We loved Rose bank cottage, comfortable, very clean and I think the owners have thought of everything you could possibly need in the kitchen."

All looked new throughout.. Hope future holiday makers look after it for you. Perfect location, 2 minutes walk into town where there is a bakers, deli, buthchers, co op , fish n chips cafes and pubs, all very friendly. The enclosed rear garden is also a bonus, beautiful. We only had 1 negative, unfortunately we found the hob extractor fan to be too low, banged heads on it a few times. We would definitely recommend rose bank cottage and would love to come back. Really happy to of found this gem. Diane and family

About the location

ST JUST

Penzance 7.2 miles; St Ives 12.9 miles.

St Just is the nearest town to Land’s End and is situated approximately eight miles west of Penzance. The town itself is an ancient settlement that has a strong mining history and there are several monuments and prehistoric antiquities to visit including the Bronze Age settlement at Cape Cornwall. St Just is ideally located for visitors to explore the far west of Cornwall as it is situated on the edge of the moors and close to the beautiful north coast. In the centre of the town is Plain-an-Gwarry, a theatre used for miracle plays in medieval times, and in more recent times for the Lafrowda Festival.
