"What a wonderful holiday we've had and Stable Cottage was the perfect place for us to see Newquay from."
There was no smell of damp, as mentioned in previous reviews, so whatever the problem might have been it had definitely been addressed before we arrived. We were blessed with glorious weather whilst we were there which definitely helped- had we been faced with a lot of rain the lack of WiFi would have become an issue for the kids, although for me the escape from the constant ping of the phone felt like a bit of a relief. We also love walking- for someone who isn't keen, the hilly but short walk between the cottage and the beach might be off putting. But for us, a lovely, clean, well equipped cottage surrounded by beautiful countryside, just a stone's throw from the beach was absolutely perfect!! Thank you!

"The smell of damp in the cottage is pretty overwhelming."
There were quite a lot of cobwebs in the cottage. I looked under the bed to find a socket for my phone charger and it was really dirty under there - quite a lot of empty sweet wrappers.
The cottage would really benefit from having wi-fi, I know it is stated that it doesn't have wi-fi, but it doesn't state that there is no phone signal inside the property. I think it would be worth installing the most basic cheap internet especially as it's now necessary to pre-book every attraction that you want to go to. I don't think anyone would begrudge paying £6-7 a week more to have wi-fi.
The positives: The location is really good. The bed is comfortable and the linen and towels were of a high quality. The shower works well. The cottage is basic, but it does have everything that you need.
Advice for finding the cottage using sat nav: Set you sat nav for the centre of Porth and when you get there, reset it for the cottage's address otherwise you will be likely to be sent down the narrowest of backroads that is barely wide enough for one car.
Thank you for your feedback. The comments you made have been taken on board. As you can see the property is a old cornish cottage and can be at times prone to damp. However the owner is currently living in the property for the winter season. The owner has had the property walls tanked which is similar to damp proofing. When the property comes to letting again the property will have been fully decorated and will have new equipment provided. There will no longer be a damp problem either. Thank you. Property Owner

"When we arrived at the cottage, from the outside it looked quite quaint and with the cluster of cottages surrounding it it looked like the ideal hideaway."
It is surrounded by beautiful countryside, away from any hustle and bustle and it is very relaxing. The cottage itself was a huge disappointment when we walked through the door. It smelt musty and was very tired looking. I was quite disappointed as I had taken my Mum away for a well overdue break with myself and my young daughter. However, despite the initial disappointment we grew to love the cosiness and tranquility that the cottage provided and the views from the lounge and first bedroom were absolutely stunning. Yes it could do with updating but overall we had one of the best holidays we’ve ever had in Cornwall. Porth is somewhere we hadn’t really explored before and we love it! The lack of internet wasn’t a problem as it provided us with a really relaxed atmosphere, I think it just added to the peace and tranquility there. Finally, despite the musty smell on arrival the cottage was really clean. There was nothing that hadn’t been cleaned so we couldn’t fault the cleanliness of the the place at all. None of us wanted to go home and we all missed the cottage which we found surprising after our initial thoughts and opinions :-) Overall we had a fantastic week, we were extremely lucky with the weather and we had the beautiful, stunning views to go home to after a day relaxing on the beach. Thank you!

"This holiday home could be amazing but the one thing that hits you straight away when you walk through the door is the horrendous smell of damp!"
The smell is all through the bungalow- in the cupboards, hoover, carpets....... so everything stinks and feels wet to the touch and it really disappointing!!
On the positive side, the location is great, it is really beautiful- the description of the place and its location is spot on. There is everything you could need in the cupboards for a week away and the shower was fab too. Another plus was that the bedding and towels (which are supplied) are of fantastic quality (even if we didn't have pillow protectors on and one pillow was grotty and soiled).
All in all I would not go back again because of the damp problem. It is in need of some improvements and modernisation too. Really disappointed as it really could be the perfect, relaxing get away.

"The only thing was that it was very damp inside?"
Our clothes when not worn felt damp, and the bedding?
Maybe it needs a dehumidifier?
It also could do with a paint just to modernize it a bit?
Location was fantastic and the area where we were staying.
Porth itself is stunning, as a family we thoroughly enjoyed staying there.

"Said to be half a mile from Porth beach."
It is but more than half that distance is a hard, uphill slog on foot.
Cottage situated in an untidy courtyard with litter and weeds.
Cottage itself very basic and signs of poor cleaning with spider webs under armchair and beside TV.
Bedrooms felt damp despite good weather during the fortnight.
No facility to recycle rubbish.

"Really convenient access to Newquay, the beach and pub."
The only negative point was arriving at a freezing cold cottage after a 7 hour drive. I thought I had made a mistake booking the cottage until it warmed up and we could take our jackets off. Otherwise a compact and great little cottage. We enjoyed our stay and will consider booking it again.

"Overall it was a lovely cottage very warm and cosy and location was excellent."
Few niggles which didnt really spoil the holiday. Bedroom is small with big furniture which makes it difficult to get round one side of bed. No lamp in main bedroom used one from second room. Would be handy to have a clock somewhere. We travelled around visiting. Eden project. Falmouth maritime museum. Newquay zoo. Padstow lobster hatchery. Highly recommend Rick Stein at Fistral bay. Too name a few. Great time. Thank you Mr Allen and Sykes Cottages. Joy and Michael

"Information about what to do with rubbish was lacking from introduction booklet, and no bedside lamps were working."
Aside from those quibbles the cottage was very good and we and a lovely stay. Secluded enough to have privacy but close enough to make the beach a regular feature of our stay.
Thank you for your feedback Mr O'Connell. I am sorry that the bedside lamps were not working on arrival. I advised this must have been the bulbs that had stopped working and assume they were replaced. I offered to reimburse any incurred costs and received no reply. My housekeeper contacted you to about what to do with leaving the waste and there is an information booklet in the kitchen which advises guests to leave all waste in black plastic bags and leave them by the car park entrance. "Really lovely place."
Thoroughly enjoyed our stay. Cottage in courtyard with neighbours, some residents and some visitors. All pleasant and helpful. Neighbourhood really quiet and peaceful. Huge but very attractively landscaped caravan site a short walk away. This was handy for provisions and on-site eating (breakfast pancakes!). Nearby Porth Beach, headland, and Mermaid Inn Fab. Best beach (especially for NT members) was Crantock which is just west of Newquay. This has lovely sands, loos, and an excellent cafe.
For those interested in aircraft, the Cornwall Aviation Heritage Centre (at the nearby airfield) is good, if a bit tricky to find.

"This is the second holiday I have been on with Sykes Cottages and everything was as I expected."
The cottage was fine and in line with the details provided by Sykes.
I was a little surprised when I walked into the cottage as the photographs gave the impression the cottage was bigger with the published pictures on the lounge area and kitchen area. In fact, the photography didn't quite reflect how close the kithcen area was to the lounge area.
Having said that, all was fine and I would certainly recommend the cottage as a base for travel around the area.
The area does not receive a decent signal for EE and Virgin phones but O2 works fine, albeit you may need to stand outside!
Overall, I was very impressed with the whole experience.
