Brewery Lodge

On arrival, it was disappointing to find the property had a musty smell and the overall cleanliness could have been better.

The sheets on the double bed were stained, and when we looked for an extra pillow in the cupboard, those were also stained. The cups felt grimy and needed cleaning before use, and the shower curtain is in need of replacement, the toilet roll holder was on the stool, not sure if it was broken or just left there. The property does have potential, but it would benefit from updating and a thorough deep clean. The wine and chocolates were a nice touch, and the area itself is pleasant. However, access to the property could be improved with additional lighting, as when the pub is closed it is very dark and we had to use phone torches to see properly.

Cosy and comfortable base to explore from.

Bus service not great but that’s not down to the cottage owners. Garden is in the pub garden but always secure and caused neither us nor our dog a problem as she was able to roam safely. Food in the pub was excellent with huge portions as a bonus!

Have stayed here several times before and hope to do so again.

Lovely stay in the apartment.

It's right on the doorstep of the Forest of Dean and you are just 5 minutes away from the trees.

Very well located for exploring the Forest of Dean.

Clean and comfortable. Living area was bigger than I expected from the photos on the website. Kitchen area small, as depicted in the website, but who needs to cook when there is a pub next door serving good, reasonably priced food? Hosts very welcoming. Only negatives were the road outside was a bit noisy at times with the windows open, but ok with them closed, and the kettle could have done with descaling. Would happily book Brewery Lodge again.

Don’t waste your money.

Tried to get in touch with Sykes and they took 5 weeks to get back to me to say there’s nothing they can do as I didn’t raise the issues when I was there! I really wouldn’t call it a lodge, it was run down, had mould in and around the bathroom and the windows, the furniture has seen better days and the mattress on the double bed needs replacing.

Great place and was very welcoming.

We had a great time and always finished our day at the bar with regulars very friendly. We have already booked a weekend in June for Allys bday so looking forward to it

The only issue we had was the wet floor after showering.

It would have been nice to have a mop to use afterwards. Other than that there was plenty of kitchen utensils to utilise. The cottage was very cozy in the cold weather and despite being next to the road we weren't disturbed by road noise. The welcome gifts were a lovely surprise.

We had stayed here before and very happy to stay again. Only very small negative, 9am too early to be expected to vacate when holiday, no time for an easy breakfast before leaving.

What a wonderful place to stay to visit the Forest of Dene. It’s got all the amenities you would need for a family of four and a Dog!! Can’t recommend it enough. The Pub next door is friendly and the food is Great! I would just like to thank Sue and Ian for making our Stay Perfect!

Had a great stay 26/7/24 - 2/8/24 with amazing weather which made it even better for us to enjoy the local area - so much to do and everyone is so friendly and welcoming wherever we went.

Property was cosy and clean, well furnished and had everything we needed to have a relaxing, home from home stay. Loved the milk, wine & chocolates on arrival too.

This was the third time we have stayed in the cottage.

We enjoyed our stay very much and will certainly book it again. It’s also very useful being on the same site as The New Inn where they serve really good food at a very reasonable cost.

We enjoyed a lovely week in Brewery Lodge and were blessed with excellent weather.

The apartment is quite compact with the kitchen, dining and lounge all in the same space, but this was as expected. The beds were comfortable and the main bedroom has the benefit of an en-suite toilet/sink. The apartment is directly attached to the pub and this did generate some noise, but nothing too much and not late at night during our week. The main noise comes from the road which seems to attract some traffic passing in a big hurry very early in the morning, which you can't miss if you have the windows open. Keep them shut and it is fine, the double glazing solves that issue. Sue and Ian are a lovely friendly couple and we enjoyed both Sunday lunch and one evening meal in the pub restaurant, and would recommend giving this a try.

Great place to stay, every thing you need in the lodge, owners and locals in pub next door very friendly, good food and drink at good prices, enjoyed our stay very much, lots of good walks for dogs only a short distance away, made to feel very welcome by Ian and sue.

Very clean property but in my mind let down by poor quality furnishings.

Settees comfortable as were the beds. Microwave quite rusty, Hot water was never hot, had to boil kettle for washing up and water temp spoilt a lovely shower. Welcome wine, milk and chocolates appreciated. We ate at the pub and the Sunday Roast was excellent value, lovely deserts and large portions. Shame the outside of pub looks unkempt. Garden area needs a good tidying up. Owner did say the carpark was due to be updated. No local info provided or info for rubbish and where to put used bed linens and towels. Plenty walks in forest, well aware of boars churning up verges and fields. Rising sun served excellent food and the Fountain pub was good for a drink, we didn't eat there.

Property had everything you would require, was very well designed, and very comfortable.

Ideal to be attached to the Pub for meals, drinks and a social evening. Nice location for exploring with many attractions close by.

Very comfortable and clean, with everything we needed for our stay The welcome gifts of chocolates wine and some milk were very thoughtful. The owners made us feel so welcome, it made our stay feel really special.

Sue and Ian are so very welcoming and treat us like old friends,. even on our first trip. Brewery Lodge is lovely and comfortable and adds to the enjoyment of our trip away. The New Inn serves delicious food at very reasonable prices. What more can I say? Would thoroughly recommend.

And only minutes away from walks in The Forest of Dean. The owners pub The New Inn was also spotlessly clean and very welcoming and dog friendly, the food was superb, highly recommend. We had an enjoyable week.

The wine and chocolates on arrival were a nice touch. The hosts were friendly and helpful, we had suggestions on places to visit. The accommodation is attached to a pub, however we did not experience any issues with noise. We went along to the open mike night in the pub and had an enjoyable evening listening to the locals playing and singing.

We had such a lovely time last year that we just had to return.

Everything you need for a great holiday, a lovely apartment, great pub attached with friendly locals and all on the edge of the Forest of Dean which has so much to offer. We had a great week again and can't wait to visit again!!

Comfortable accommodation that suited our needs very well, and owners Sue and Ian were welcoming and friendly. Welcome pack was also great. Brewery Lodge was equipped with everything we needed for a week away. When we couldnt get the Dvd to work Ian sorted it very promptly. We ate at adjoining pub on 3 occasions and food was great and we were made to feel very welcome. Would definitely stay again when next visit Forest of Dean. It would have been useful to have instructions for using electric oven ( as we have Gas oven at home), instead a google search came to my aid.

We arrived on the late afternoon mid week , into a lovely , clean accommodation which was attached to the pub , once we had unpacked , we popped into the pub and was welcomed by everyone, we ate , drank and got to know all the regulars and the owners and family .

We loved every second of our stay , the local area is so pretty , can highly recommend staying here , hopefully we will return in the future . Our dog was made very welcome too . She had an absolute ball .

WE had a great week at Brewery Lodge, Sue and Ian were very welcoming and had a lovely welcome pack for us, everything about the lodge was top class.

We also ate out in the Pub several times and the food was very good with reasonable prices.

Very handy having pub next door, lovely food. Property very comfortable and had everything you need. Only downside would be the shower room/toilet, could do with a glass panel between toilet and shower. Shower curtain a bit mouldy.

This wasn't our first visit and certainly won't be our last. Lovely clean, comfortable cottage. Sue and Ian go out of their way to make the stay as enjoyable as possible. I would also recommend the food that they serve at their adjoining pub The New Inn.

Clean and tidy, very accommodating of my dog, felt very welcome. Would definitely stay here again.

Fridge not big enough for a family, beds not comfortable could feel all the springs in the mattress and WiFi kept tripping out.

Noise level from pub was unbearable on Friday and especially Saturday night, which was karaoke night 8.30-12pm. You have to be aware that the lodge is in the beer garden and you will get people sat one step from your front door, so at times inappropriate language was used. On the plus side milk chocolates and wine was a nice touch. Owners really friendly, and centrally based for travelling.

Absolutely loved our stay at Brewery Lodge.

From the moment we walked in we were made to feel welcome by everyone and nothing was too much trouble. The lodge is lovely and compact and has everything we needed. We'll definitely be back if we're in the area again.

The deputy managers were friendly and helpful as were everyone we met in the New Inn. Would certainly recommend it.

Brewery Lodge is an ideal location to stay, the New Inn is the best pub we've been in for a long time with very friendly customers, good food and wine.

Sue and Ian certainly know how to make everyone welcome and we would thoroughly recommend the property to everyone - with or without dogs! Can't wait to visit again.

Nice quiet, clean and comfortable two bed cottage.

Well situated for southern areas of Cotswolds and Forest of Dean, close to Lydney which has a train station.

Lovely flat, close to everything we wanted to do, comfortable and clean.

Chocolates, bottle of wine and milk a nice touch. Not much of a view but quiet and relaxing.

The lodge was lovely, warm and clean.

A welcoming box of chocolates and bottle of wine in there on our arrival were very much appreciated. Hosts Sue and Ian were very easy to get on with and gave us good advice about places to visit and the history and roots of the area. One thing perplex us, there was no welcoming pack or instructions on what to do before leaving. As regular users of Sykes cottages we followed the expected routine of leaving it as we found it, put the bed linen in a pile and left the rubbish bag by the door.

Had all necessary amenities. Lovely owners and pub regulars very very welcoming. Two minute walk to get into the Forest of Dean for fantastic dog walks. Loved the sheep that just wondered around.

We were made to feel that we had known them for years. The cottage was lovely and comfortable and listening to their future plans for the pub things can only get better and we wish them all the luck in the world, and hope to see them again in the future. Mitch and Helen.

They were also very dog friendly, I think our puppy loved her first holiday! Only ate at the pub once, but it was lovely, and they even bought out water and biscuits for our puppy.

A gem!

A dog-friendly cottage/lodge handily situated in the garden of the village pub & close to a number of attractions in the Forest of Dean and wider. The 2-bedroom accommodation is fitted with all amenities including a decent kitchen area, lounge & spacious wet-room. Note that the ground floor contains one bedroom & the wet-room whilst the lounge, kitchen and bedroom with en-suite are upstairs. The location & lodge were very comfortable and everything was very well-presented - there was even an arrival gift, most welcome. In these strange times it would be worth saying that everything possible was done to make the accommodation "Covid-safe", and that was appreciated. We would like to thank Sue & Ian for making us feel very welcome indeed and I would finish by recommending the local pub for its lovely homemade food and atmosphere. Would definitely visit again.

The accommodation is based near the Forest of Dean, which provides great places to walk, if you want a relaxing weekend this the place to stay, a car is a good idea to visit some of the local attractions, Karen, Jacqui and Jasper the dog

What a fabulous place this is, set on the edge of the Forest of Dean.

The Lodge has all that you could possibly need for a great holiday. It is self-contained and very comfortable. It is attached to the pub but you wouldn't know it. no noise, nothing. What you do get is great hospitality and great food from Sue and Ian if you choose to eat in there. It's a very friendly place. There are woods close by to walk or you can go to other parts of the Forest of Dean, there is so much to see and do there that we hardly ventured out of the forest during the week. So much great scenery and fabulous walks. All in all, this was a great holiday in a wonderful location. p.s. our dog Bonnie enjoyed it too

Good location for exploring the Forest of Dean and Welsh borders. Attached to the owner’s pub so very convenient to nip out for a drink or meal. Good quality, homely food and we ate there several times. Owners and locals all very welcoming and friendly. Had a lovely and relaxing time

This holiday was great for us!

(2 adults, 2 children, 1 dog) The cottage is lovely with a great layout and was spotlessly clean. Its is in a really handy location to explore the area. The owners are very welcoming and having the pub next door is great!Food is brill and you walk out the front door of the cottage into a lovely beer garden. A very lovely few days away :-) The donkeys in the field next door are very friendly too!

Very nice clean place.

A lovely gesture of wine and chocs on arrival. My daughter is disabled so wet room and downstairs bedroom were ideal. Only problem is that the lounge area is upstairs which I did not realise, so she was distanced from us. She could not come up to eat with us so we all sat in downstairs bedroom together!. Besides that it was lovely their, and would recommend it to people who can climb stairs. Myself and hubby and dog would stay again.

Very well equipped cottage. Perfect for walks near by and definitely dog friendly. We had a fantastic holiday and would happily book it again. Even wine and chocolates on arrival. Only thing I would warn people to check pub and restaurant opening times. They finish serving food at 2.30 on Sunday and closed on Mondays. However will say Susannah is an excellent cook, her faggots and mash were the best I have ever eaten.

Great place for exploring the Forest of Dean.

Ian and Sue were very welcoming and the pub is a great addition to this accommodation ! The accommodation itself had everything we needed for a family stay. Very quiet location and no noise from the pub.

Owners Sue and Ian were very welcoming and helpful.

They even took pity on us oldies and unloaded the car for us . We only stayed two nights, wished we could have been there longer but it was not possible in July. Only problem was directions to the New Inn / Brewery Cottage. Initially on the information sheet it states that when you arrive at New Road, Lydney you have got there. Only problem is that the New Inn is not in New Road. When we phoned Sue re key etc, she gave us better directions.

Ian and sue the owners were brilliant,nothing was too much trouble, all the staff in the pub were friendly the attached cottage is of a high standard and extremely comfortable absolutely ideal for a few days stay even though it’s attached to the pub you can’t hear anything during opening hours, it’s a very quiet village and not being on a main road there’s not a lot of traffic either, we would definitely stay here again.

We had a lovely quiet break enjoying the beautiful countryside around the cottage.

We were made very welcome and made use of the pub next door both for drinks and a meal. The cottage was lovely and clean with everything we needed it was very peaceful. My father struggled walking and the ground floor bedroom and wet room was ideal. We hope that we will be able to return one day.

Clean and conveniently located for our purpose. Very quiet considering attached to the pub of the owners. Owners were great and couldn't do enough for you even to the extent of personally cooking us a delicious pub meal on arrival on Sunday long after their Sunday lunch service had finished and food was no longer on offer. Local pub drinkers very friendly too. Highly recommend this cottage to anyone.
