    Amazing location for walking. We were up in the hills every day. Mandy was very welcoming and gave us excellent pointers for local walks. Would definitely visit again.

  • "We had a fantastic stay at Bakehouse Farm."

    The garden was great for the kids to play in and for barbecuing. The local pub is only short walk away and has great outdoor space and good food. The ceilings are a bit low in the living room, but other than that the house was very comfortable and clean.

    Our private, secure garden is a hidden gem and a perfect place to play for children and dogs alike (and where adults can comfortably relax and chill out) There is one large beam in the living room that is indeed low. Testament to Bakehouse Farm's age (this part of the Cottage was originally an 18th Century Barn) plus the fact that people were genearlly shorter some 300 years ago! Thanks for reminding me to buy a Duck or Grouse sign! Property Owner

  • "A very attractive and interesting property."

    Nice to have some history of the place. Very comfortable and well appointed. The owner was welcoming and helpful. Lovely garden and great to have it not only enclosed but stock fenced so that it was safe for the dog. Bledlow is a lovely little village and lots of other beautiful places within driving distance. Would thoroughly recommend.

Bakehouse Farm is rather unusual and quirky in that its original 1650 origins have been added to, at various points in time, over the last (almost) 400 years to create an interesting combination of interconnected rooms (some might initially consider a mini labyrinth) The village is also delightful with the Lyde (aquatic) gardens, a Grade 1 listed Church dating form mainly the 12th and 13th centuries, our local PH and cricket pitch and pavillion all within easy walking distance Property Owner

  • "Fabulous and interesting old building which had been successfully updated to provide modern facilities."

  • "We really enjoyed our stay."

    Great to have dog walks from the front door. Only problem was the oven wasn't quite big enough to cook a full Christmas dinner for 6 adults and 3 children - took a bit of shuffling things around, but we managed!

  • "Great cottage property, very quirky."

    The stairs are very steep, and small steps, so extra care does need to be taken. Comfy beds, excellent amount of bathroom and toilet facilities, well equipped kitchen too with excellent view onto the garden, and adjoining field. The Princes & Risborough railway runs at bottom of the next field, is just visible from the kitchen, many bushes and trees hiding it, at the bottom of the garden much better view, look out Sundays and Thursdays. We had an excellent time, there is so much to do in the area, Whiteleaf Cross, Roald Dahl museum at great Missenden, Windsor was only an hours drive, Bekonscot Model Village, our time was filled, one week was not enough. The owner Mandy lives next door, she gave us a wonderful welcome on arrival, even telephoned the day before our stay to advise of roadworks that meant a diversion to reach the property. Couldn't ask for more than that. Thank you.

  • "We had a lovely stay at Bakehouse Farm, we were very lucky with the weather so could make the most of the beautiful and fully enclosed garden."

    Mandy the owner lives next door and was very friendly and helpful, we had an electric issue on arrival which she was keen to get resolved but was respectful of us being in the cottage at all times - this didn’t impact our stay. The blinds to the owner’s accommodation were closed as soon as we arrived so the garden was completely private, there were plenty of chairs and cushions available for us to use so we were able to make the most of the weather and enjoy the peaceful garden. The cottage has lots of character, dating back to the 16th Century and there was plenty of space for us to spread out. The beds were comfortable and the wifi coped well - we had two young adults with us so this is essential! The kitchen was well equipped, as previously mentioned there are two corner carousels that you need to push the door to access (I wouldn’t have realised!). The dog loved his stay, was made to feel welcome and enjoyed chasing the local rabbits out of the garden each morning (he is 9 and has no chance of catching them). There are some nice walks from the village and nearby, we visited Whiteleaf cross, Wendover Woods and Dunstable Downs and had a delicious lunch at The Crown in nearby Radnage. Things to note: The building is very old so some ceilings and doorways are very low, my husband and son are not particularly tall but bashed their heads several times. Also whilst there is a lovely downstairs bedroom with en-suite there are lots of odd steps internally downstairs due to the age and nature of building being extended over the centuries. If you have poor mobility where one or two steps would be an issue then this may not be suitable.

  • "A great weekend spent in a lovely cottage."

    Mandy was an excellent host ringing beforehand to confirm some details then welcoming us on our arrival. The cottage is in a lovely village with a good family & dog friendly pub just a short stroll up the road. Food served all day Saturday and worth a visit. Four good sized bedrooms, comfy beds, lovely bathrooms, fab inglenook fireplace and wood burning stove in the lounge, well equipped kitchen - we could not find fault with anything. We came to celebrate Mum's birthday - 5 adults, a teenager and two small dogs. The cottage was cosy and warm, WIFI worked in all rooms, fully enclosed garden so we were comfortable letting the dogs out at night. Somebody had mentioned the garden being overlooked by Mandy - during our stay the blinds at those windows were kept shut so don't let that put you off. This is a gem of a cottage and we would love to come back. Have already recommended it to friends

Spacious bedrooms and comfortable beds. The kitchen is perfect and we'll equipped. All in all we loved our stay at Bakehouse Farm and would love to go back one day!

  • "Overall, we really enjoyed our stay in a beautiful and interesting property."

    My daughter said it was the sort of house she dreams about buying! Lots of walks nearby. Mandy was really friendly and helpful and reliable all of which was really appreciated. It is a very quiet spot with plenty of parking and the bedrooms were all great. Small niggles - the corner sofa isn’t very comfortable. And it would be good to have just a few more basic supplies in the kitchen eg salt, pepper, cooking oil.

  • "The owner Mandy welcomed us on arrival and was always on hand if needed."

    A few suggestions were offered of places to visit and we also used the information provided in the welcome folder. We were able to book tickets for a steam day on the Chinnor and Princes Risborough Railway and everyone was delighted that Mandy was in the garden waving when we steamed past. The property was spotlessly clean and plenty large enough for 6 guests. We did struggle for fridge space on occasion, however put some of the items in the freezer and just cooked from frozen or remembered to defrost. The doors and some of the beams are low, but for a property originally built around 1600 it’s to be expected, you don’t tend to bump your head twice. The kitchen was clean and we didn’t generally want for anything that wasn’t there apart from some scales, the cast iron ones sufficed but we’re very heavy to move. We used the wood burning stove on the first evening. Our elderly parents were in the ground floor bedroom with ensuite but found that once the living room and dining room were up to temperature the heating went off and this bedroom was cooler than the rest of the house. It needed a bit of balancing act with the heating to ensure the radiator was on just before they went to bed and got up in the morning. There was no welcome pack on arrival so ensure you take essentials. Princes Risborough is only just up the road by car and has a large M&S Simply Food, Tesco Superstore etc. Our two dogs enjoyed the large enclosed rear garden, unfortunately however whilst the weather was kind it was not warm enough to spend a great deal of time outside. There is a vacuum cleaner in the cupboard which was handy with a border collie, and so many properties don’t provide one. We had a great week, found plenty to do, however book restaurants early. We found the Black Goo Cafe and Tap Room in Thame, the cakes are amazing and the portions enormous. We had takeaway and we’re still eating the slices 3 days later. My only comment is that we had two cars and it’s unlikely that you’d be able to park a 3rd on the driveway without blocking in the owners vehicle. We had a great week, and even visited Bicester Shopping Village where we haven’t been for nearly 25 years and would suggest getting there early.

  • "A spacious property, perfect for our group of 8."

    Mandy happily chatted on the phone to resolve some queries before we travelled, greeted us when we arrived and was very friendly and helpful. She lives adjacent to the cottage and was on hand in case of any issues but left us to just enjoy the property. The garden was fabulous and although it is overlooked by the owners property, their blinds remained closed the whole time we were there so our privacy was respected. It is in a lovely location with a good pub at the top of the lane, serving excellent food. Locals were extremely friendly and we were invited to and welcomed with open arms at the local cricket club....Good beer and a pub quiz. Plenty of trails to follow for good walks. Previous comments stated the kitchen was ill equipped. We found this not to be the case....but check out the concealed carousel corner cupboards and the drawer beneath the cooker. More equipment than Gordon Ramsay would need !! There was an issue with the oven which Mandy was getting rectified, but it was explained when we arrived and we did manage to cook meals for us all. This was an excellent weekend and we would most definitely return.

  • "Good base for exploring the area and had a nice garden for relaxing."

    None of the comments below spoiled our holiday but were rather a surprise based on previous accommodation booked through Sykes and sister companies. The kitchen was not up to catering for 8 people, only one small frying pan and fridge small for holding food and drink for 8. We ended up being a party of 5 and basically had to shop daily. The plumbing was inadequate only one toilet flushed successfully, in a modern world this is not good enough. Also water to taps plumbed incorrectly especially kitchen tap and downstairs toilet. The lighting was also a bit of a challenge - 3 switches in dining room only one of which did anything. A spot in the inglenook came on and off to suit itself.

  • "Excellent location to explore best of Chilterns."

    Walkable pub was a good local with unfussy cheap meals. Excellent access by foot to good hill walk and good for cycling either up hill or by a quiet lane to link to 8 mile Phoenix trail. Cottage well maintained with a very large garden. Additional lounge a real bonus for a large party.

  • "Our large family stayed at Bakehouse Farm for a week while we were in quaratine after flying in from the US."

    It was perfect for us except that we had to do all the cooking and the kitchen was a bit small for that. Otherwise, it was a perfect location. The backyard (garden) was very large, giving my sons plenty of room to workout and extra room for us all to hangout. There were plenty of comfy lawn chairs that aren't shown in any of the pictures. The landlady, Mandy, was beyond friendly and helpful. Beds were comfortable. The living room had sufficient sitting space for all of us. One warning, this is an historic property which means it was built when people were much shorter than my 6 ft sons. There are beams throughout the house that you need to watch out for or there will be some bumps on heads. It was well worth that risk, though. Thanks so much for everything, Mandy!!! I hope we can come back some day when we are allowed to be out and about!

    She gave us friendly advise on what’s available in the area to visit and places to eat. The cottage is well equipped for a comfortable stay. The cottage in itself is historically very interesting, has a lovely garden, is, unusually for a cottage, roomy but cozy. I recommend this holiday venue and would revisit in the future if returning to this area. Thank you.

  • "The cottage is in a great location with lots of places to visit close by and great walks even from the doorstep."

    The cottage was very clean and well equipped, it had everything we needed as a group of 8. It is a great size for a large groups but still has a cosy feel. Bedroom sizes were all good and beds comfortable. The garden is fabulous, equipped with plenty of seating (not in the current photos) and a great space (fully enclosed) for the dog and kids to run around. The owner was very helpful with local information and was on hand for any issues (although we had none). Village pub, a few minutes walk away, also serves food.

  • "There are very low ceiling beams and door frames on the ground floor of this house which resulted in 3 members of our group sustaining head injuries."

    There was only parking for 2 vehicles not 4 as stated due to owner living next door and using spaces. The pictures on the app do not show that the rear of the owner's house is part of the boundary of the rear garden and her windows look right into the garden so no privacy. There are 13.5 tog duvets on beds which was far too warm for summer and in 35° heatwave. No cot supplied but accepted booking including an infant. House not suitable for anyone with visual impairment or limited mobility due to uneven flooring and steep stairs. Cooking facilities not adequate for cooking for up to 10 people. Would not book again due to lack of important information and very cleverly angled photos giving false impressions.

  • "Sykes aren’t easy to contact unless you want to make a booking."

    The house was large with enough bathrooms. The garden was lovely. The log fire was fun. The fridge wasn’t big enough for 8 especially when it isn’t really possible to mostly eat at pubs and restaurants. The kitchen could have been better equipped - a bread knife or a sharp knife would have helped. I was expecting “Covid clean” but it was just “cottage with dogs clean” - bedding, towels, carpets, bathrooms very clean. All in all a very nice week in a lovely setting.

  • "Cosy and warm despite the size of the property."

    Only a standard oven and hob so catering for 8 on a big scale needs planning. Despite that we managed Pie weekend for 8 of us and had a great time. Beds really comfy. Plenty of space downstairs for people to do different things. Plenty of good walks right from the property door, and room inside if the weather does not oblige.

This magnificent grade-2 listed former farmhouse is set within the grounds of the owner’s home in the village of Bledlow in Buckinghamshire.

Boasting plenty of character, with features dating back to the 1600s, Bakehouse Farm has been renovated to provide a comfortable base for families or groups of friend’s eager to explore the surrounding Buckinghamshire area.

Enter this charming dwelling into the spacious hallway, great for drying the dogs after a long stroll and for storing your coats and boots.

Look forward to curling up beside the woodburning stove in the sitting room, complete with the original inglenook fireplace and two sofas; just off this room is the snug, which houses a Smart TV and further seating for four.

Allow the chef amongst the group to take advantage of the well-equipped kitchen, appointed with all the necessary appliances to prepare a divine feast, which can be carried into the dining room where you can enjoy the company of each other.

Spoiling you for choice, there are four superb bedrooms at Bakehouse Farm, including a zip/link super-king-size with modern en-suite shower room on the ground floor, perfect for those with limited mobility.

Upstairs you’ll find the master bedroom which boasts a stunning en-suite bathroom, so you can savour a luxurious soak at the end of the day, whilst there are two further double bedrooms to choose from.

Explore the large enclosed garden at the rear of the property, ideal for family games or a spot of alfresco dining on a warm summer evening. For those with a love for nature, You will be able to see a variety of birds whilst visiting Bedlow, one of these being the Red Kite, these have been reintroduced into our area and have been previously saved from national extinction!

The Red Kites are magnificently graceful birds and a spectacular sight for anyone who spots them, check for them soaring on warm, sunny days, they’ve even been known to perch in our own very back garden! You will also be able to see the Chinnor princes Risborough railway steam train, an award-winning heritage railway steaming alongside the Chiltern Hills. The line begins in Chinnor Oxfordshire and crosses over the county-boundary to arrive at Princes Risborough in Buckinghamshire, this is a great experience for any train-lover or even a family day out, grab a bite to eat at the station café or visit the gift shop, there’s loads to do in the area and plenty of other places to travel to and experience. If you don’t fancy a visit to the station, you can of course relax in our garden and wait for the moment you see the steam train itself make its way past Bakehouse farm as its lines run only a field away from our location. For those who enjoy County cricket the Bledlow Cricket club is an active and welcoming source of entertainment, and the steam train runs alongside the cricket pitch so visitors can watch cricket and the steam train here simultaneously!(As well as a cheeky beverage). The village of Bledlow is considered one of Buckinghamshire’s most attractive villages and is famous for being the setting scenes for the TV drama Midsomer Murders.

As featured on BBC One, a stretch of the ancient 220-mile Ridge way walk can be found yards from the property on Chiltern Hills and Bledlow Woods.

If you’re taking a night off cooking, there is an excellent pub in the village.

The neighbouring village of Chinnor offers traditional pubs, restaurants and local shops or a little further is Princes Risborough, with a whole host of independent shops and two supermarkets for your essential bits and pieces.

With the Chiltern Hills close by, you won’t be short of outstanding natural beauty which is certainly worth exploring.

If you fancy a change of pace to your laid-back getaway, then the cities of Oxford and London are 20 and 45 miles away.

The beautiful village of Bledlow can be found resting on the eastern edge of the Chiltern Hills AONB within Oxfordshire, close to the Buckinghamshire border. The area was well known for lace making, chair making and agriculture and today still has the historic charm and known for being used as a location for the TV series Midsomer Murders. The village offers many black and white and thatched properties, has a renowned village pub as well as a Norman church and Lyde garden. Bledlow has an abundance of walks in all directions including the Roman path Ickneild Way and Ridgeway. Cyclists are also well catered for in the area as are Steam Rail enthusiasts with a steam railway running regularly between the neighbouring village of Chinnor and Princes Risborough. The historic university town of Oxford is just 20 miles away or take a day trip by train to London. This hidden gem combines a charming escape with easy accessibility.
