Beautiful accommodation, in a lovely location.

Mary Rose was very welcoming, helpful and accommodating. We stayed as a family, ages 5 - 75 and the barn suited everyone’s needs. We would highly recommend a stay at this wonderfully, relaxing holiday home.

Mary Rose was very welcoming and helpful. Spotlessly clean, very comfortable and contained everything that one could need. Lovely garden on a quiet country road that my two dogs took full advantage of ! Would highly recommend.

Having been travelling for 14 hrs to arrive at The Old Village Barn in Woodford, as we had come from Cumbria, England via Holyhead.

Our first experience of what was to come was when we rang Mary Rose (host) to ask for directions as we neared our destination only for her to say “stay where you are I will come and meet you”. We followed her back for the last mile or so and as we turned in it was the most tranquil setting (bliss) so began our week in this little piece of heaven. Mary Rose opened our door for us and as we walked in we realised we had arrived at the most heavenly of places. All and everything was perfect. We are adept at superficial cleanliness and tidiness but this was far beyond that. It was warm, welcoming with soft music playing, fresh flowers throughout and an interior to die for. It immediately felt as though we had been here forever. The thoughtfulness, the cleanliness, everything you could possibly need had been thought of with great care and love. Mary Rose was the most welcoming of hosts and it felt like we were two old friends coming to stay. Our week at The Old Village Barn was beyond any expectations. Perfectly perfect.

An Immaculate, Peaceful Gem with a Truly Special Welcome⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ We had a fantastic stay at The Old Village Barn in Woodford.

The accommodation is spacious, spotlessly clean, and exceptionally well organised, with everything you could possibly need for a relaxing break. The attention to detail was outstanding—and the welcome was unlike anything we've experienced before. Walking in to find gentle nightlights glowing and soft music playing created such a calming and personal atmosphere. It was such a warm, thoughtful touch that made us feel instantly at home. The barn is set in a quiet farming community, just a 5-minute walk from the beautiful shores of Lough Derg—perfect for peaceful strolls and birdwatching. There are also lovely woodland walks nearby at Derry Crag and Derry Gill, offering even more opportunities to enjoy the natural beauty of the area. Portumna Forest Park and marina (around 15 minutes away) is a wonderful place to walk and explore. Practicalities are just as impressive: the facilities are excellent, with a well-equipped outhouse next to the barn for washing and drying clothes, and a tidy, easy-to-use setup for recycling and waste storage. The accommodation is well stocked with household essentials, which made our stay very comfortable and convenient. Woodford village is a short 10-minute drive, and Portumna offers additional shops, cafés, and amenities just 15 minutes away. Whether you’re looking for quiet or connection, everything you need is within easy reach. The owner and her daughter were very friendly and welcoming, always available if needed but never intrusive. Their care and attention really set the tone. It’s clear why this place is so highly regarded—the guest book, full of glowing comments going back 5–6 years, reflects just how special The Old Village Barn is. Not all guests book through Sykes, which speaks to the strength of its word-of-mouth reputation. A perfect countryside retreat—peaceful, immaculate, welcoming, and full of thoughtful touches. We wouldn’t hesitate to return or recommend it.

Lovely place to stay and Mary was very welcoming.

The place was spacious and very clean with a small welcome package which we enjoyed. We had a great stay in the sunshine at this place.

Bit difficult to find initially as there are no street names, but a quick call to Mary-Rose solved the problem. Once found, the location was great. No noise except for the birds and the occasional snort from the donkeys in the adjacent field.Total relaxation. Added bonus of being offered the use of the boat to go on the lake. Only minor issues we encountered was not being able to open the window in the upstairs double bedroom and could have done with some firmer pillows. We'd definitely recommend the Old VillageBarn to anyone looking for somewhere beautifully peaceful hidden away in the green and glorious heartlands of the west of Ireland.

Amazing stunning place, owner is brilliant, very welcoming and provides a lot more day to day amenities than we expected.

Seriously can not fault and would highly recommend. Told the owner we were out for the wedding and she even brought us a bottle of champagne for celebrating.

The Old village barn is absolutely AMAZING!

The property is even more gorgeous in real life than in the photos - absolutely stunning! It’s so clean & homely - there were even candles burning & music playing for us when we arrived. The beds were super comfortable & enabled very good nights sleep all round. We loved the donkeys out the back of the property & found ourselves out there talking to them on very regular occasions! Old Village Barn has everything you could possibly need for a wonderful holiday - including various games & DVD’s. The kitchen is very well equipped & the coffee machine is a fantastic addition. The owners are so friendly & helpful - thank you so much for being such fabulous hosts. This was our first stay & we will definitely be back - we wholeheartedly recommend staying here.

This property was a superb find.

The cottage was in a very quiet spot and only 15 minutes drive to Portumna and an hour from Galway and Limerick cities. Mary Rose was the best host possible; on arrival, she made us truly welcomed and on the kitchen table was a bottle of wine for us. Also, on arrival on a cold February day, the log burner was on which made the spacious home feel even more welcoming and cosy. Our party consisted of grandparents, adult children and partners and 2 infants and it was a fabulous location to spend family time together and also to explore the area individually. All 3 bedrooms were spacious with en-suites and Mary Rose provided 2 travel cots for the little ones. The 2 donkeys in the field behind the cottage were lovely and the grandchildren loved feeding them carrots. We cannot thank her enough for the kind hospitality and interest in ensuring our stay was comfortable. Thank you Mary Rose.

It was amazing: clean, spacious, comfortable, luxurious...what more can I say! They even provided dishwasher salt and rinse aid, that is a first for us, we always take our own. They have thought of every single thing you could possibly ask for. Brilliant

Great holiday in a great cottage.

Lovely area and the weather was good which was a bonus. No hairdryer in the property.

An absolute Gem of a place.

Both location and accommodation. Mary Rose was an excellent host and on hand should you ever need anything! We were very sad to leave the barn and cannot wait for our return! We are already planning our next trip!! The donkeys came to pop their heads by every morning which was an absolute delight!! A stay here is a must!! Ps…my little fur baby had a ball too!! Don’t think about it! Just book it! You definitely won’t be disappointed!! Xx

The Old Village Barn is in a lovely quiet countryside location.

It was very modern, cosy and comfortable with plenty of space in each room. There was a large front garden and patio at the back. We received a very warm welcome from our host Mary-Rose. We travelled to The Cliffs of Moher and Galway and some of the little towns. People were very friendly. Would definitely recommend a visit.

Beautiful renovation with all the amenities. Huge fully equipped kitchen. Property was very private and dog friendly. Mary-Rose was a delightful host. She met us upon arrival and checked in during our stay and the day we left. Would recommend The Old Village Barn to anyone looking for a quite luxury holiday in the County Galway countryside.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it was lovely and quiet, perfectly located, with a nice walk to the Loch.

We met Mary on arrival and she was so friendly and helpful, she really took a kean interest to make sure we had a pleasant stay, we couldn't thank her enough.

A wonderful property in a beautiful location which led to a very tranquil and relaxing holiday.

The house was spacious, beautifully presented and the hosts couldn't have been more helpful and thoughtful. Lough Derg is very close by and was stunning, our boys thoroughly enjoyed exploring, swimming, fishing and spending time on boats.

My family and I had a fantastic week at the Old Village Barn.

It has home comforts and is beautifully finished with lovely furnishings. The garden is beautiful and so we’ll kept. I would highly recommend the Barn and it was amazing to have the lake at the bottom of the lane. Mary and Oliver were very approachable and nothing was a bother for them.

In the 30 years we have been renting holiday homes, both in the Uk and Ireland, this is the very best accommodation we have ever had.

Decor is excellent and is exactly as per the photos on the site. Extremely bright with large patio doors and heating excellent. The garden outside has been landscaped very well and there is an outside area with a washing machine and drier - both excellent. Extremely well equipped and a lovely bottle of red wine left for us on arrival, which was very welcome. This is a holiday home that we will definitely be returning to and I have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone. Also we were able to take our dog with us with no restrictions on what rooms he could use, only restriction with him was no sitting on furniture or beds which he isnt allowed to do at home anyway. All round excellent holiday.

The accommodation, which is exactly as described on the website, had everything we needed and more as well as been spotlessly clean. We has a wonderful relaxing week with our Labrador and Springador who loved the outdoor space. The owner, Mary Rose, is a wonderful attentive host who was on hand if we needed anything at all. We travel to Ireland quite often and we can honestly say this is the nicest cottage we have ever stayed in. We will definitely be returning and recommending the Old Village Barn to our family and friends. Thank you Mary Rose.
